Ahhhh Youth

My mum convinced me that I’d be doing a “good deed” if I dressed as a little elf last night. Yes. Tis true. I dressed as an elf.

God.

The things I won’t do for my mum.

Anyway.

She had this senior get together thingy (she hates when I call her senior but damn if I don’t get joy from it) and she dresses as Santa every year and every year she somehow convinces me that playing an elf to her Santa is an absolutely AWESOME idea (I just think I feel guilt because my dad and sister have already said absolutely NO WAY! Thus that leaves me!).

Anyway.

I went to my parents house late yesterday afternoon to pick up “Miss Santa Claus” and wandered around as she got her bits together.

And let me tell you my mum is big on pictures. She has pictures of everything we’ve done as a child. I’m talking first spit, first poo, first snot, etc……if my sister and me did it, it’s liable she has a picture of it somewhere (where as my dad is the utter opposite! He carries around a keyring with the three of us in a photo. He claims it’s to remind him how he went crazy!)

I’ve never seen such a mother so proud of her daughter’s first snot like my mum! She’s the type to whip out some embarrassing photo at random moments and coe at how awesomely gorgeous my sister and I are (did I mention she’s blind? I’m kidding! I’m kidding!).

My mum is the type to tell me, “Pick me up at 1 on the dot and don’t be late”. Meanwhile I have to wait 15 hours while she gets her rubbish together before we can actually leave her house and get to our destination.

So yesterday I was waiting for her and she yells from upstairs to gather the cookies and such on the dining room table and I wandered in to gather them up and I was faced with the doom of staring at the life size image of my graduation picture on the dining room wall.

Pray tell. Who does this to their children?

So here are twin life size photos. One of me, one of my sister Jo on the dining room wall. God. The horror.

The sad news is I have to face this every time I have dinner at my parents house. The really bad news is company has to as well (those poor, poor people).

The good news is yesterday I realize that in 13 years since I graduated High School I haven’t changed one bit!

I’m seriously considering bottling some of my youth and selling it on E-bay!

No but seriously I must be doing something right in my skincare routine because nary a wrinkle mars my face, an age spot, a single gray hair, or any other signs of aging have occurred as of yet! Maybe I should be quiet before I jinx myself and knock wood!

I turned 30 this year and I can still get away with saying I’m 17…..

Hmmm…..Maybe when I’m 60 I can tell people I’m 30.

I chalk it up to expensive cosmetics, skincare, and good genes as my mum looks damn good for her age too (this from a lady who washes her face with Ivory soap and walks out of the house without foundation, blush, or lipstick for the past 150 years of her life).

An unflattering picture of the Muse and her mum

Well…anyway to embarrass myself further I give you my High School grad photo from almost 13 years ago (granted I can’t get away with the Peaches and Cream face look anymore! Now I have to layer on foundation and blush to even resemble this image)!

Behold Greatness (I kid, I kid):

I believe back then there was no such thing as tweezers or something (Have to have some excuse for my awful untamed brows)!

Ah youth!

Count your blessing at how lucky you are I’ve shared such an embarrassing photo with you!

But it’s a darn fun post isn’t it and a good excuse to pimp Lush!

And no cheeky comments about how dorky I look or how much weight I’ve gained *groan*!

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. holy cow thanks I’ll totally take that as a major compliment as 1. I love her and 2. she’s absolutely stunning!

Thanks you’ve made my day 😉

  • Angelique

I’ve said it once, I’ll say it again:

    Muse, you’re so pretty.

And goddammit I mean that! I’m not one for flattery (which is probably why I have so few friends but eh, tis all good).

Man, I need to locate a decent picture of me to send to you sometime! The only one I have is from high school: I’ve got on red vinyl devil horns and the only makeup I’m wearing is really messily unevenly applied Dior PlasticShine in red. ….hell I may send that one anyway; apparently I don’t look any different from high school.

Off to read your Forever Gold review! God do I wish I had snagged that gold mascara! I hate having my father monitor what I buy. damn man.

You look wonderful both today and back then, Muse! Are you Italian? I love the bold, dark look of Italians. My gramps was 100% – his parents were straight from Italy.

And you really haven’t changed since high school. I recently saw a high school chum a couple of weeks ago and she said I didn’t look any different. Now I was shocked because I see lines forming – can’t others? But for a minute, I was transported back to being 17 and feeling spritely again. And then her dad, who’s a school art teacher, had some real 17-year old students show up at his home for an extracurricular art class. That brought me right back to the painful reality of it all.

*sigh* I just turned 32. Blech. Sign me up for Sunny Pastures nursing home.

    Hi Angelique!

You’re too kind and possibly blind. hehehe 🙂 Seriously thanks so much you’re lovely to say as such but really I’m a mole 🙂

I’d love one! We need to do a feature FOTD of you remember?!

You obviously need fake horns where as I have real ones hehehehe!

I believe the overcoat is still available from Guerlain but I’ve been hopping around and haven’t located any Forever Gold!

    Hi Taryn!

    You’re sweet thanks!

I am indeed. My mum’s Italian and my dad is Portuguese and I’m a mutt 🙂

    hehe!

I haven’t felt spritely in years hehehe! However I have noticed my under eye lines are slowly creeping up and I have th moisturize heaps more as my foundation has a knack for sitting under my eyes rather awfully!

Aside from that I don’t yet need a senior home hehe!

Awww 32 is far from old! Funny as I felt awful wonderful a few weeks ago when Erika from Makeup Blog told me she’d be in Manhattan and asked me out for drinks if I was “old enough” hehe! Now that really made me grin!

Hell Sunny Pastures can wait for us for a few years 😉 we aren’t ready yet!

I definitely was going to ask re: the Italian thing. I’ve got to say, you look exactly like my best friend from childhood, which makes me want to read more of your…adventures :). As goofy as the giant graduation photo is, you look angelic–beautiful!

Thanks for posting such fun things! I will live vicariously through you (I’ve spent all my money on LUSH and there’s none left for exquisite makeup!).

Funny you should post this, actually. Right around the time you posted I was examining the skin around my eyes, poking and peering to see if that *slight* crease is actually a wrinkle. Sigh…I’m barely 22, but at least I’ve got good genes and a head-start on the *blush* anti-aging lotions and potions.

Do you take fish oil? I’ve noticed that when I take it in huge doses regularly, my skin looks like that of a 14-year-old. Sans the pimples. It’s fabulous stuff.

Anyway, coming out of lurkerdom to wonder how many other people were thinking of aging at the same time. Spooky!

  • Row

Noo your so cute. And look much younger than your age. I turned 26 this year I was so depressed I feel so old. :/ I ate a lot of chocolate that day.

Ur skin is lovley – so do tell me (I am on a spot attack today dunno why but 3 BIG spots have appeared from no where) what lush product can I use to ease them away? Something not to strong for my sensitive skin! xxx

  • the Muse

    Hey Roxy!

Aww hehe thanks 🙂 You’re a sweetie! I’d say the photo was scary as hell plus goofy hehehe!

YAY LUSH! lol 😉 Lush is well worth your hard earned cash 😉

No no don’t be embarrassed! I wish I had started earlier with anti aging products myself! It’s good! You’re a clever girl! Do it now while you can prevent wrinkles and such 😉

I do indeed take fish oil. I haven’t noticed much difference in my skin but maybe it could contribute some to my skin!

LOL believe me I’m constantly poking at my eyes to see how much I’m aging.

Thanks for all your comments today! Hugs!

  • the Muse

    Hey Row!

Aw thanks love! You are too! Believe me I was depressed as ever turning 30 hehe!

Fresh Fharmacy!!!! It’s wonderful on breakouts! I love this stuff! It’s quite mild as well like washing your face with soap but do a spot check prior to use just in case since you’re sensitive 😉

    Hugs!

Aw, such a fun, cute post! (p.s. don’t bother replying, i’m gonna comment on all these loads of old posts, as i always do to any new blog i’ve come across)
That elf/Santa Claus tradition you and your mum have goin on is hilarious! I’d NEVER do that.
I hope you get some cookies/brownies/SOMETHING tasty in return ^_^

P.S. how did you NOT have pimples when you were a teen? my grad is weeks away, and man..my forehead’s speckled with these tiny annoying buggers. :'(
Ah well, that’s what makeup’s for! Yay!!

  • the Muse

    hi again a 🙂

    Aw I don’t mind replying 😉 I’m enjoying your comments! Thanks 😉

LOL believe me it’s a hardship for me to do but my mum enjoys it 😉

lol I got a candy cane hehe!

Makeup is the key 😉 cover it up when all else fails hehe 😉

I never really had probs with acne or pimples growing up! Although my forehead breaks out occasionally that’s about it 😉
