MAC Metal X Impressions

As I was saying in an earlier post the evil lure of the MAC counter got to me and I made a quick pit stop while at Macy’s to browse around and see what was about.

Even though I’m a self proclaimed hater of cream eyeshadows the Metal X collection most definately caught my eye!

You may remember that I compared many of the glitter liners in this collection to past collections. You can click here for the original post about that. I’m here to say that the glitter liners are not at all awe aspiring and if you have liners from past collections you’re covered. If you’ve never purchased glitter liners from MAC your Muse mostly definately gives them a big “go buy” of approval however if you have them from other color stories these are reruns or at least I felt they were! Again, click here for the comparisons!

Now the shadows are most definately gorgeous. I was in lust with all of them! I swatched every one on my hand and was absolutely giddy with excitement at the gorgeous colors!

However, I didn’t buy nary a one.

I’ve heard absolute poor reviews about the shadows and how crummy the staying power is and I must say that I could be agreement without even testing these on my eyes. The shadows are super emollient so all the tales of slipping, sliding, and smudging off the eyes may very well be true with a shadow that’s so oily in texture.

The formula is quite interesting on these and I can see where all the woe stems from as obviously the problem is the texture.

Do I still want them? Hell yes! The colors are too pretty not to want them even for a cream hater like myself.

However, I may just stick to swapping for one before splurging hard on the entire lot. These need to be further tested on my eye area before I can make any rash decisions about them but from what I have seen so far the texture definately screams drama!

Have them?

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. Muse, this is off-topic again, but may I cry on your shoulder please? My JPMon order shows that it’s in JFK in NYC (and has been since 12/14) and it still hasn’t come. The mailman came and went today and brought nothing! When I used EMS shipping with Iris’s CPs for me, it always came within three days.

*sob* I’m hoping it’s not lost. Thanks for letting me vent my worries. 🙁

  • the Muse

    Morning Taryn!

I wouldn’t worry honey! It’s because Holiday shipping is slow around this time of the year =)

I’m positive the PO probably already has it 😉 If you happen to live close by and the lines aren’t too insane maybe drop by your PO with the printed tracking sheet and ask them if anything is on hold for you!

It’s definately not lost. It’s possible your mailman forgot to live an orange slip or they are slow going with delivering due to the holidays!

Definitely call or stop by your PO and ask after it and I bet it’ll be around!

    Comforting hugs your way!

  • Taryn

Thanks for listening, Muse. I keep forgetting that things may be slower due to the holidays. I’ve had awful luck with my packages lately. One that I’m due to receive is apparently lost, another one I sent out a month ago never made it there, and now this. So you can see why I think it might be AWOL for good!

I am going to visit my P.O. and see what they have to say. The guy is normally good about the slips, but who knows, maybe he forgot this time. Keep your fingers crossed!

PS…I have the Metal X in Pure Ore and found it didn’t crease on me (and my lids are oily), but that could be because it’s such a light shade that if there was creasing, it was barely noticeable.

  • the Muse

Aw anytime at all Taryn 🙂

Things are set at a crawl 🙁 I sent a few items first class about a week and a half ago and they haven’t arrived. Normally first class takes 7 days at the very most

I’m so sorry about all your packs going awry!

Don’t worry! I’m positive it’ll show up! I have the worst post ever and it always turns up sooner or later 😉

In good to know as I am very tempted by these but damn the reviews are killer!!!!!

They are such an odd texture and the colors are so vibrant that I’m wanting all of them!

I’m trying, trying, trying oh so hard to be good!

  • Taryn

Muse, it pays to cry on your shoulder! About 20 minutes ago a white car pulled into our driveway and I was wondering who the heck it was. Turns out it was the express postman (or whatever they call him) bringing my package!

My husband held the box over his head and I started jumping for it! (I can’t believe I’m admitting this on a public blog.)

Anyway, I’m going to take pictures and I’ll send you one. What a haul!

  • the Muse

    yay taryn!!!!!!

Fantastic! I’m proper happy for you 🙂

LOL! Sounds cute to me 😉 As he knows how eager you are for the contents lol!

Lucky he didn’t ask for his laundry to be done or some other demand prior to handing the package over 🙂

    YAY can’t wait!

Maybe I can share it here with everyone I’m sure they’ll want to see your haul!

Have fun playing with it all 😉

  • Roxii

On a quick note, I agree: one of my MAC-crazed friends bought the ENTIRE collection and…well, to be honest, she was depressed :/ (this is rare for her to admit this, because she’d defend MAC to her death 😛 But, her depression is understandable, since she did spend hundreds of dollars on it).
Now, it is I who has a question for you 🙂
I waited for two weeks until Sephora had Stila’s $150 Collection of $400 worth of makeup. They have it now…I was wondering your opinion on the matter.
Should I even bother? Would I feel like I got my money’s worth?
    Thank you 🙂

  • the Muse

    hey roxii.

if my grammer is off or my spelling chalk it up to the fact i’m replying to this via my phone! Sorry in advance 😉

I’m like that. I’m one for diving in and purchasing large quantities of MAC like it’s the end of the world as we know it and I might need MAC for end of the world survival or something very important!

The texture on these is very strange and I’ve heard so many poor reviews I’m naturally weary (for once that’s rare) so I might swap for a shadow and see how it works out before diving in! I’m playing with caution! who would have thought it possible for me!

It’s hard to say on the Stila collection.

Remember the collection from two years ago in the box? Was $150 as well I believe. I waited, waited, and waited some more to purchase it even though my lemming was hard for it.

I’m glad I did because I ended up nabbing it from the Stila Warehouse sale for…wait for it…$49

    so go firgure.

That set is well worth your $150 but ask yourself if 1. It’ll be around next year when Sephora Friends and Family rolls around (probably it will even thought they do the normal jig about how amazingly LE it is) and 2. can you get someone on MUA to nab it during the warehouse sale in LA!

It’s so difficult to make the choice. I’d say go for it if it’s what you really really want right now. I’m even tempted as hell it’s a butt load of cosmetics for a really low cost.

If you’re lemming can be controlled I’d say wait for it and see if you can nab it at a later date for heaps less!

If you love Stila I’d say dive in as well.

Personally, honestly, I’d wait. Spring collections are here within a few weeks and I’m positive something will pop that you want way more than this set!

Yes it’s alot of yummie stuff but nothing you can’t live without right?!

    Unless you’re a diehard fan!

    Hope this helps love!

    Hugs!

  • the Muse

ps notice how the set has the old packaging I bet the packaging changes soon so this is there way of cleaning out.

Especially the shimmers which haven’t had a revamp of packaging in ages and ages!

  • Roxii

    Yes, it does help :0
Truth be told, I’m not too crazy about the two lipstick colors, the three eyeshadow colors, or the eye shimmers….so yes, I think I will wait. =)
OMG, $49 for the previously $150 stash?! Please tell me you bought three of them! 😉 hehe, but seriously, that should be a crime. It’s no wonder I’m grinding my nails in the evening doing “should I, should I not,” with a flower (“he loves me, he loves me not..”).
    Thanks again!

  • the Muse

    Hey love,

    Aw I’m glad it helps!

And hey that’s two less items you don’t want right?!

The good news is if you’re absolutely dying for eye shimmers from stila or anything in that set have a gander on e-bay TONS around for really cheap like $5.99-$9.99!

YES! Remember the box one with the perfume!?

It’s actually in my “Holiday’s Past” post! Check it out! you’ll probably remember it 🙂

I only got the one sadly but damn if that wasn’t a deal and a half!

I just think you’ll buy this now and regret it later when the new spring collections are up ya know?

It’s a matter of weeks now that we get a major rehaul and new hot collections will be out and we’ll soon forget all our Christmas collection lemmings and move on to spring ones 😉

Especially if you’re a j-cosmetic lover with all the amazing collections coming out!

Good Luck fighting the lem demon 🙂

  • Row

    Hey Musey!

Well – I LOVE cream eyeshadows but I heard so many rubbish reviews. Nevertheless through sheer subliminal messages I ended up with 5 Metal-X. I use a base and powder on top and it doesnt crease on me but its quite hard textured and yeah a bit of a pain the the butt to use.. :/ I say give it a miss if you can’t be bothered with messing!

To be honest I get suckered into MAC and I use it the least. I am much more looking forward to a certain package !!! hehehehehe excited about that.

Oh Taryn – just wanted to say I was wating for a parcel from the US which was hadn’t arrived 32 days after plus, Identical packages arrived after 5 days so I thought it was definately lost! but it arrived today…so – well I guess it’s just patience. Who knows how many little errands our parcels make! 🙂

  • the Muse

    Hey Rows, me love, 😉
    How are ya?

I’m stuck up in the cold and shivering here awaiting my train so it’s might nice to have something to reply too 😉

Cream shadows never work for me! Ever! They slip and slide and I blend awful with ’em 🙁 It’s an art to prefect a cream shadow that’s for bloody sure!

I’m sooooooooo tempted by these and it’s great to hear positive reviews as I’ve only hard the worst things possible about these guys!

I’m definately getting at least one to try for myself!

i love mac a bit too much *blush* I wish I could just say no and end my love affair but it’s been hard! I’m still a virgin so the novelty as yet to wear off even those it’s been a while now since I began collecting!

You’ve no idea how excited I am for you to get that “certain little package”! I want to read your reviews and see how you like everything! I’m a bit worried with the holiday rush it’ll take long but I’m crossing my fingers it’ll be with you soon!

I have to say I’ve had some airmail take over a month and others take like 3 days so I totally know the feeling! Depends on the time of year I guess!?

Thanks for the comment and the review of Metal X!

    Hugs!

  • Row

That’s so funny! Yeah its true I can’t sleep for the life of me so I am staying up for 24 hours to reset myself!

Hmm everyone says theres probs with the video let me go and fix it 🙂

  • Row

Yup I find some airmail takes agesss like a Month, and some can be 3-4 days! Depends how the nice people at customs are feeling sometimes.

  • the Muse

    LOL 24 hours? Sheesh!

I’ll go look at vid now see if it’s up 🙂

They have since done away with surface..now that was some scary service! Took ages to get!

    EEP!

  • Taryn
