Year End Review: 2007 Favorites List

We are soon closing up 2007 and a New Year will be upon us within a few days! In celebration of that I’ve compiled a list of some of my favorite products of the year!

Asking me to choose a single favorite item in each category is impossible so I’ve listed a few of them instead! My mind changes often and my taste in makeup changes day to day so something that may have been my favorite last week is probably not the same this week! Most of the items on my list are items that I’ve really enjoyed using this year! Some are age old favorites while some are brand new items! I wish I could take the time out to type a little something about each but if I did we’d end up with a huge blog entry to say the least! I’ve just decided to list my favorites and if I’ve reviewed them before or featured them I’ve included a link so if you’re inclined to find out more you can click the link and be magically transfered to the review or impression I got of the item! You can also comment or e-mail me a question about any of the items and I’ll be happy to help!

I’d really love to hear about your favorite items this year too so please by all means comment or e-mail me 🙂 You don’t need an account to comment 😉 It’s open for everyone!

Much happiness for a great New Year! I hope Musings will be bigger and better this coming year with more of what you want!

Thank you for being such loyal readers! I appreciate each and everyone of you greatly!

On with the show!

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. Awwww… Prost Neujahr to you too, Musey!

Is it just me, or does the idea of MM’s ‘Flesh and Blood Cheek Stain’ seem a bit revolting? I mean, flesh AND blood? Who makes them? Mrs. Lovett? Somehow, I’m not sure a cosmetic with the words ‘blood’ and ‘stain’ in the title would go down to well with Anglophones.

  • the Muse

    Hey 😉

    Prosit Neujahr!

    Gelukkig Nieuwjaar!

    Akemashite Omedetou Gozaimasu!

    That’s all I know 😉

LOL It could be Miss Lovetts 😉 With the Meat pies 😉 Squeezes a bit into the tub and it’s the worst cheek stain in London 😉

I’m actually really missing this stuff since they dc’ed it as it gives me such a great look!

It would be truly funny if it was called fresh and blood… 😉

  • MandyPandy

Nah, it can’t be called ‘Fresh and Blood’, that would probably violate a copyright, or something. Someone already has a line of meat pies there with that name. Engrish is a fickle mistress.

Out of curiosity, have you checked out It seems like something up your alley (I can’t get enough of it).

  • Row

    Product. Overload. Brain. Mush.

I loveee the susie ny eyeshadows – are they a Japanese brand?

  • Taryn

Good list, Muse. There are lots of goodies on there that are peaking my interest. 😉 Here are my favorites, for what they’re worth:

    -Tricia Sawyer foundation
    -Vincent Longo Water Canvas

    -Tarte/Borba lipstick in Zen
    -MAC Lipglass in Electrolush

    -Obagi Clenziderm cleanser/toner
    -Kate Somerville Exfoli-Kate
    -Daniel Kern 2% benzoyl peroxide
    -Clean & Clear Persa Gel

Whew! That was a long list!

  • the Muse

    Hey mans 😉

LOL! You got my engrish reference in the “fresh” part you clever girl you!

Oh my gosh that blog was fantastic! I was loving the Matt Damon skit with the whistlers. Were they trying to imply that he understood what they were saying. I picture him having an earbud in his ear and someone feeding him the translations! I was absolutely adoring Uncle Jun chatting up the swedish chick too! That was fab! LOL and meg ryan’s coffee commercial 🙂 Love love love celebs that do asian commercials so fabulously awful!

People think that Brad and Angie are living off the fruit of the land while not doing films (and they are helping people and saving the world and being eco friendly while flying around in jets) when in reality he’s advertising whiskey and watches in Japan and she does cosmetic commercials!

Brilliant blog! Love the link thanks!

  • the Muse

    Hey Taryn!

Thanks for the list 🙂 I see a few items I wanna try on your list!
    Fairy Drops mascara
    Awake Aqua Trans powder
    Chantecaille Lip Chic lipsticks

darn I knew I missed some stuff I wanted to add to my own list and you reminded me!

    Like:
    MAC Northern Light MSF
    Urban Decay 24/7 pencils

    Those are definately awesome products!

    It was difficult picking favs!

  • Taryn

Muse, I guarantee you’ll love the Awake powder, and I bet you’d like the Lip Chics too. They’re really buttery and have a plumping effect. Right now there are only three colors, but they’re pretty universal ones.

Have you tried any of Kevyn’s stuff? His mascara is probably in my top 3 of all time. It was the first “tubing” one I tried. Oh, and Tricia Sawyer’s products are excellent too – her foundation covers blemishes so well and it’s very creamy.

OK, now I’m babbling endlessly again. See what this product talk does to me? 😛

  • Taryn

Muse, I forgot to ask you something else! What do you think of the NYX line of cosmetics? An Eckerd drug around here used to carry a small selection of them but stopped when they were bought out by Rite Aid. I tried only a couple of the products. Any advice/opinions?

I hate to admit it, but I’m an insufferable snob when it comes to cosmetics. There was a time, even up to a year ago, when I’d head over to Walgreens and pick up a new d/s item just for the heck of it. Even though I still preferred the higher-end stuff, I was also open to d/s products. Almost overnight, that changed and something came over me! I’m not even tempted at Target or Walgreens! The haircare/skincare aisles usually draw me in a little, but that’s it.

Anyway, the point of that long-winded tale is that NYX doesn’t seem like your typical drugstore stuff. That’s why I was asking. 😉

PS…and when I got to the bottom of your favorites, my jaw dropped and I said out loud “Get outta here! The Muse uses Physicians Formula?!”

  • the Muse

    Hey Taryn!

Can’t wait to try it! Lip Chics are another that I haven’t tried but now are on my list thanks to you evil girl!

No Kevyn at all. I was meaning to buy one of the potted cream blushes but never did. It looked great too!

MY GOD my list is getting bigger! Stop Stop! Hehe 🙂

Talk away 😉 I’m an utter product whore 😉

I’ve tried NYX trios but that’s it and they blew arse. However, in NYX’s defense, I’ve read rave reviews about singles and how they are on par with MAC in pigmentation!

NYX was nice enough to extend a discount to me and readers but I never got a chance to do an order. I’ve been meaning to for months and months but I haven’t had time to really concentrate on the page. I was going to purchase a lot of items and then offer the discount to readers as well since NYX said that would be fine. However I just haven’t had a sec to actually do it and it’s been backburned for far too long.

I must must must get to it soon! I really have heard rather mixed reviews on products. Have you checked with Vanessa on Nesscary Makeup? She’s the queen of matching NYX to MAC colors and doing fab swatches and reviews on NYX products plus FOTDS!

Actually one of the main reasons I was so intrigued with NYX is because of her. She does this uber glamorous FOTD’s using drugstore makeup and it makes me want to hit my local walgreens to try the same thing out!

I’m a snob too! Big time. I’m rarely tempted at Walgreens or Target either. Even the boots at Target fails to wow me. I’m a fan of no 7 UK side but stateside it’s so terribly cheap looking?!?!?!?!?!?

I hardly ever even hit the haircare or skincare aisles. It just seems very overpriced. If I’m going to lay down $7.98 for a mascara in a DS I might as well add $5 on and get one at JPmon or some other asian site. Or ask a friend for a cp!

From what I understand NYX is pretty good in some aspects and pretty crummy in others. I’ve heard the same about Milani. Some good, some bad. Trios are rubbish. I tried two and they were somewhat sheer. Singles I’ve heard rave, rave, rave reviews about. Not sure of the other bits and bobs. I’d definately check with Vanessa’s site. You won’t be disappointed with her fountain of info 😉

LOL physcians formula is absolutely awesome. It’s the only D/s brand that I love, adore, cherish, and think is a generally awesome buy. Some PF is staple for me! The powders are so amazing! And I love some of the blushes too! Good, good stuff 🙂

Shhh don’t tell anyone I admitted that lol!

    Hi musing so famuse,
I am a big fan of your blog. Thank you for your postings, especially for Japanese and Korean Brand. I really love Japanese and Korean cosmetics but have a lack knowledge about this, let’s say I’m a newbie. Right now I’m looking for Pressed Powder which I can use daily and doesn’t contain any foundations. I use Etude House for Pressed Powder , I love the texture and color, but I want to try other brand, will you suggest what is the best pressed powder in Japanese or Korean Brand. I have an asian skin and combination skin type. Thank you for your help.

    • the Muse
