Smashbox O-Gloss Review

Ahh another completely pointless product! What would life be like without them?

I purchased Smashbox O-Gloss and have been using it daily for two weeks prior to sitting down to write this review and I’m still somewhat speechless as to what to say about it.

It pretty much lacks in all departments so save your pennies and don’t bother.

First of all the texture isn’t fabulous. It’s not tacky and it’s not sticky and let me tell you it’s definately not glossy. I really can’t think of a good way to describe how it feels going on. It just feels somewhat blah! It has virtually no shiny factor to it at all and it sorta kinda dries my lips a little bit.

The gloss is clear and it’s supposed to “match” your true color and of course I wasn’t expecting much as we all know how much of drama comes with Smashbox O-Glow but it’s safe to say that there isn’t any drama with O-Gloss as it’s completely and utterly clear and doesn’t change color at all, at least it didn’t for me. When you apply O-Glow at least it turns from clear to a delicate shade of pink upon contact with your skin but I can’t claim the same for the gloss. It virtually stays clear in the tube and on your lips. I’ve gotten no color at all from it. Zip, Zero, Nada!

Have I ended up with a bad tube? It’s possible as I’ve heard other reviews stating it changes to a bubblegum pink when applied but on me I just get the same dull flesh colored lips! Mind you I’ve been playing with it daily for the past few weeks and it doesn’t change at all! I wouldn’t mind bubblegum pink at least it’s color but it’s clear on me, completely clear!

The tube is $22 USD and definately not worth it as it’s a smaller size then your standard gloss plus it doesn’t perform the way it promises. Hell, I wouldn’t mind the price so much if it actually worked.

Sorry Smashbox I have to give this one a big thumbs down!

Not worth your cash, stay clear!

That’s sad to hear! I tried it and actually really liked it — on me, it definitely made my lips a really pretty shade of pink and didn’t feel sticky or gummy at all. It actually made my lips feel pretty slick and good! But to each beauty junkie her own! 🙂

omg thanks for doing this post. i was thinking about buying this hearing so much about it but the price held me back. I bought a cheaper version from Mark its called Glossblossom Ripening Lip Tint its a great pinkish color and the $6 didnt hurt my wallet.

    Hi Jamie!

It just stayed clear on me 🙁 Not sticky or gummy at all but I noticed that it didn’t feel like I even had gloss on! le sigh!

I’m glad it worked for you 😉 I’ve heard mixed reviews!

Some love it and some are experiencing the same thing as me! I’m just not loving this one sadly 🙁

    Hi Kat!

No problem 🙂 I just didn’t like it sadly 🙁 I LOVE the mark one! I did a review on it not so long ago 😉 Plus it works a treat and it’s super glossy and the cheap price is awesome!

Thank you so much for the review. I was previously considering making that purchase but I am glad I stayed clear!

I am glad that you Are feeling better and I’m sorry about that horrible gloss! I’m disappointed with everything by smashbox and I am soo not surprised that this gloss was a big ripoff. I’d say stay away from that brand!

Hello Muse! I hope you are feeling better after your horrible day at work and sore throat! Do drink more tea with honey and lemon. 🙂

Anyway, hoping what you have isn’t a serious case of strep throat, I also found this:
    http://shop.avon.com/shop/product.asp?src_page=product_list.asp&level1_id=300&level2_id=469&pdept_id=483&dept_id=488&p=8021&qty=1&pf_id=8021&x=1#8021

It is Avon’s mock version of Smashbox’s O Glow!! Crazy, isn’t it? It’s only $6 bucks though.. and it would be funny if it worked better than Smashbox!

    Hey KD 😉

It’s a safe bet to spend your money elsewhere! I really didn’t like it 😛

    Much better glosses around!

I may have missed it – but did you ever test the O-GLOW INTUITIVE CHEEK COLOR?? I’m dying to know how it works – I’m intrigued. The lip gloss review doesn’t make me feel as encouraged … I usually just use the Smashbox pressed powder blush and I love their products.

Danielle I think I reviewed it a while ago. I’m searching through my archives now for the review. It’s ok, not my fav product in the world but it’s decent 🙂 I wasn’t a fan of the gloss so much and the cheek glow I liked for a while but felt it didn’t have enough color payoff to warrant a repurchase…but yes the review is in the archives somewhere 🙂

      • Danielle

Thank you! Not going to lie – I’m slightly obsessed with your blog. I’ve found myself agreeing with a lot of your reviews. Maybe I’ll skip this one. 🙂

        • the Muse

hey danielle aw shucks thanks, proper flattered! 😀 I think there are alot of great stains around but Smashbox O Gloss and Smashbox O Glow wasn’t one of my favs 😀 Have you tried posietint? that’s fabs!

  • Kris

Wow, surprized to hear a negative review on this one. I loved it so much that I bought 5, and gave one of them to my cousin. I’m not into a lot of makeup, so this was perfect for me, because it took the colour choice out of my hands. It turned a nice dark pink on me, which is perfect for work. I’m looking forward to using mine all up.
