Shu Uemura Mini Eyelash Curler Review

Oh yaaaaaaaaaaa!

The Muse got the new Mini Shu Eyelash Curler and it’s all that and a bag of chips…mmm…..I don’t really like chips…it’s all that and some double chocolate chip cookies! w00t! Much better!

Ok so I got this today and when I first slid it out of the box I quickly realized it was a heck of alot smaller then my standard Shu Curler! My god are they skimping on me!? Have no fear the size actually works to your advantage when you’re using this bad boy. I guess that’s why they named it Mini right?

I should mention that I’ve somehow become retarded when using this! It’s like learning to ride a bike without training wheels. Your standard Shu Curler can be compared to riding around town on your ultra awesome bike with some training wheels on for safety where as the new mini eyelash curler is riding around minus the training wheels. I had to relearn how to curl my lashes tonight. I’m sincerely stupid because it took me about 20 minutes of messing with this thing before I got a knack for using it. Now I have mad skills and I went from amateur to awesome in 20 minutes! 20 minutes well spent my friends because I almost poked my eye out a few times there.

In all seriousness it does take a bit of practice to get a feel for using this but once you’ve become one with your Mini Curler it’ll open a whole new world for you! I’m seriously impressed with the fact that I can get the pesky inner lashes and curl them up in a snap! Don’t get me wrong my old standard size Shu curler can easily capture every single lash in one go but sometimes, on a rare occasion it does miss some of my inner lashes! Now I can slip my mini curler right in to take over the job and curl up any loose ends!

Now as I was saying my standard Shu Curler already does everything I need it too so why do I need a mini version?

The mini version gives me doe eyes! This is fabulous for curling the outer corner lashes while leaving your inner lashes straight! This will give you that doe or doll effect! That flare at the outer corner of your eye really creates a beautiful, unique look!

Ahh the perfect doll look!

If you happen to have very small, stubby lashes this should be a perfect tool for curling with. I have very full lashes so I can use this for creating unique, precise looks something not easily accomplished with my regular Shu curler however if my lashes were a bit stubby or short this is a very good precision curler for pulling them up, out, and giving volume and curl to pesky, short lashes!

As I mentioned earlier the size is quite small but it doesn’t take away from the comfort level. It fits snugly, securely and naturally between your fingers and the size actually helps with the precision of curling! It’s such a good size that it offers your hand the stability to do your work while holding fast and steady! The size also accounts for the fact that you’re applying a bit more effort when curling with this. You need to work this gently against your lash line as it’s tricky to use at first so the size makes the transaction a bit easier!

My regular Shu Curler never gives me a problem with pinching but the mini version is even better with that to be honest. Occasionally I align my regular curler incorrectly, squeeze down, and get a mighty fine pinch! At no fault of the curler but my own clumsy efforts when curling! Duh! It’s unlikely you’ll experience that when using the Mini version since you’ll be curling your lashes in sections which makes for good precise work and less ouch!

Overall, I love this thing and happy to have it in my beauty arsenal!

My regular Shu Curler is the Cadillac of curlers so we’ll dub the mini as the BMW of mini curlers!

You can click your heals over to Shu’s website and grab one for your very own! $17USD gets you a very cute curler that works a treat to say the least!

  • alien man?!

o man, i might have to get this! i have the shu regular and, while it does work way better than any curler i’ve ever used, it DOES pinch b/c i have fatty eyelids and short stubby lashes

    thanks for the heads up!

  • waiping

haha.. I agree with Shu curler as Cadillac of all curler! Its one of the best cosmetic thing I ever discover or tried. haha I absolutely love it especially before Shu curler, I hate curling eyelashes.

  • the Muse

    hey alienman!

On occasion mine pinches too when I align it incorrectly.

This one is for such intricate work that you can totally avoid giving yourself a pinch!

    You’re most welcome!

    😉

  • the Muse

    Hey Ann!

How much is it singapore side? Curious!

I can pick you one up from here if it’s cheaper! Let me know!

  • the Muse

    hi waiping!

I sincerely love my original shu curler. It’s awesome! Before mine I curled with a Sephora curler and that wasn’t not nearly the experience I get with my Shu!

    Thanks for your comment 😉

  • the Muse

btw anne can you give me the link for your blog again!

I meant to bookmark and link you but I sidetracked!

    Grrr!

  • Bliss

I always wanted to try the Shu curler and wow now they have a mini, and it works even better, u made me lemm for this, ive only ever used bodyshop and shiseido ones, thanks for a great review, this definately going into my list hehhe

  • Lydia

I just purchased this today after reading your review and I’m excited to try it out. My lashes are very tiny and regular curlers pinch since they are so short. I hope this will helps! Thanks.

    hello

i have the bigger curler and i love it too. do you know where i can buy the pads for it?

    thanks

  • the Muse

hey bliss! Oops got two of your comments at once!

I really like this thing! I was lemming when I first seen it!

I’ve always been curious about the shiseido one myself but every since buying the Shu one I’ve never looked back. I seriously don’t need anything else and now with the mini I’m completely stoked and good to go!

hehehe! Wish list is growing thanks to me!

    hugs!

  • Ping.

haha Waiping is me.. I think i sort of put wrong name. Shu is definately awesome.. its like drug to my eyelashes.

  • the Muse

    Hi lydia!

I hope you find this helpful! I think it’ll work a treat on shorter lashes! Work with a smaller curler to catch each lash is easier when your lashes are a bit stubby or shorter and delicate!

Do comment back when you get it and tell me if you like it or not!

    Curious!

    Thanks for the comment!

  • the Muse

    hi Anonymous!

I love the bigger one too and adore it. Shu doesn’t actually sell pads but I guess by the time you’re done with the two pads it’s about time to buy a new curler in my humble opinion! With proper care you should get 3 years or more outta the curler with the two pads. Someone had mentioned to me in a previous comment that if you bring the curler to a Shu counter they’d replace the pad for you! not sure if they do that or not as the reader said they did so a few years ago! But it’s worth asking!

    Hope this helps!

  • Ann the Queen

LOL! i think its cheaper here.. i remember asking its price and it doesn’t seem to cost more than 20 sgd?! i’m not too sure.. i’ll pick one up SOON!

p.s. my blog is at myvanitybag.vox.com

  • the Muse

    hi Ann!

Serious? Wow the US has something cheaper then Singapore for once! Wahooo hehehe!

I’d have thought they’d be at least $30SGD to be honest. It could be because Shu is so readily available but they still have to import to you I’d think hmmm…interesting!

I’m intrigued it’s cheaper for once!

Ah ha thanks gonna link ya up in two shakes!

    *mwah*

    love ya!

  • mayaari

i love my mini shu – i keep it in my makeup bag to curl my lashes when i get to work (if i’m running late). i have the shisheido curler for most days, and sometimes i’ll pinch my eye…but the mini is great b/c it’s got that flat edge to it, so pinching is minimal. i can’t really tell from the pic, but is the regular shu curler flat as well?

  • MandyPandy

Shu Uemura’s alright, but I still much prefer my ELF curler, pinches and all. I never even thought much of Shu’s original curler, which seemed a bit disappointing to me, after all of the hype.

I wonder though, how this new mini curler stacks up against other mini curlers on the market, like Vincent Longo’s.

  • the Muse

    hi mayaari!

Good idea. It does make for good travel with it being so tiny 🙂

The shu curler is slightly, very slightly curved up. I can understand why it’s so popular with asian girls because it fits straight across rather then curving upwards. I think this accounts for the less pinch too!

I’ve never tried the shisedio one but always was curious! Do you like it?

  • the Muse

OUT! How dare you dirty my wonderful thread with the promise of $1 eyelash curlers! I forbid it!

We’re breaking up Mandy! I no longer love you!

    😉

I honestly love mine. The handles are super long, the curve is just right, and it’s rare it pinches.

I haven’t seen VL’s mini curler! Is it new?!

    Must go look now!

  • the Muse

ps I replied to your other post in my NG thread but I had to do the comment over because I originally rejected it!

    Go lookie!

    It’s about Coraline!

  • Critty

Ooooo I want doe eyes! I have never used a lash curler on myself because my lashes curl already and then it is just too much, but I would love just to make the end ones curl. Although I am not sure I trust your opinion, as you are clearly deranged – who doesn’t love chips???

  • the Muse

    hey Critty!

LOL 😉 I’m looking forward to attempting the end curl with some mascara shortly 😉 LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hate chips in the US although I do adore a good bag of smokey bacon crisps UK side 🙂 Mmmmmm! so good!

I can murder a bag of walkers but just don’t give me anything US side 😛

Hate the flavor options we have blah!

  • Critty

We have sour cream & bacon chips in Canada and they are good. But my fave is sea salt and malt vinegar. God I am drooling. So I know feel I can trust your opinion again, and I will have to pick me up a mini curler 🙂

  • the Muse

oh my critty that sounds heavenly. We have crummy flavors here and I have to wait for mates to send me a box of good stuff over from the UK 😉

my fav are smokey bacon and chicken roast!

Yum so good! I’m starving! Haven’t eaten lunch or brekkie 😉

LOL!!!!! Yes indeed crisps and a mini curler a marriage most lovely 😉

I really adore spare rib too for some reason..such a yum flavor!

  • Leila

Oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooohhhhhhhh they are so damned cute!!!
I’ve been reading you for a while (even made a request for your opinion to your email) and I must say I see myself very much portrayed in you and your tastes on make up. Along with the falsh lashes and everything!!!

Such a shame living in Spain makes it mighty difficult to come across any Shu Uemura at all, their website won’t ship internationally. For me it’s eBay and Strawberrynet all combined…

Keep up the good job and a thumbs up! I was trying to decide whether or not buying the regular Shu eyelash curler… I am completely decided now!
I’ll tell you my experiences with it (I have short and straight eyelashes and terror to be pinched!)

    • the Muse

haha leila that’s what I said when I seen ’em! aww thanks so very much Leila!!!!!!!!!!!! 😀 awww that stinks 🙁 sigh! I understand as I have lemmings from all over the world that are sometimes hard to find!

I look forward to hearing what you think and THANKS! for the great comment *hugs*

  • lisa

    Hello,

Enjoyed reading the comments on the eyelash curler. It makes me want to purchase one just because of the funny thread. You must be a very lovely person, Muse. Love how you respond with kindness and grace. ~lisa
