Alan Cumming: Simply Brilliant!

Warning:

Random babblings that have nothing to do with cosmetics ahead!

I’m a PBS geek (or maybe I’m just an Anglophile. I haven’t decided yet!).

I know can you believe I admitted it out loud? I’m the little short, round girl that strolls down Madison Avenue toting a PBS tote bag like it’s a Fendi.

And proud of myself by the very way!

For 200 years now, give or take a few years, Mystery! has had the wonderfully macabre Edward Gorey introduction. I heart Edward Gorey so I’ve always appreciated the fine animated introduction of Mystery!

However, recently things have been a brewing at PBS! Change isn’t always my most favorite thing in the world and no I don’t embrace it. You embrace it if you like it so much! I’ll stick with the things I know thanks very much!

One such change that is unforgivable to the Muse would be the revamp, rename, and re-host of my very favorite program on PBS, Masterpiece Theater.

Masterpiece Theater has undergone not only a name change but also a host change and all this other crap I’m not loving.

Gillian Anderson is suddenly the host of Masterpiece Theater…oh sorry…it’s called Masterpiece Classic now. Granted, the content is still very much the same but I can do without Gillian Anderson. Sheesh, couldn’t we find a Brit to do the introduction? Hells, I’d have settled for Madonna with a fake British accent instead of Agent Scully!

Look at her hair! It clashes with the bloody back drop! Please can it be real British host time now? The Muse simply demands it!

Sadly, even though I donate gobs of spare cash to PBS they refused to listen to my demands for a new host and I’m somehow stuck now fast forwarding through the bad introduction of Masterpiece each week and hiding my checkbook as I refuse to donate money to them until they lynch Gillian! Sorry!

Le sigh!

However, this week PBS more than made up with it when they revamped my second favorite show Mystery! with a new host and a new introduction!

Alan Cumming has made his debut as a fine host of Mystery! The Muse is not worthy of the awesomeness of Alan Cumming being so brilliant at introducing Mystery!

I lust after Alan Cumming in a major way and I couldn’t be happier that PBS has heard my agonizing cries of mercy and provided me with at the very least an awesome host for Mystery! It’s the least they could do after making me suffer through the badness that is Gillian Anderson.

On a side note check out Billie Piper making the cross over from Masterpiece Classic to Masterpiece Mystery! Obviously, life after Doctor Who and Diary of a Call Girl were simply not enough! Go Billie Go!

Ok I guess I’m appeased now! Happiness is gagging over Alan Cumming’s fine, dapper introduction on Mystery! Well done!

I’ve been a patron member for about 8 years or so now so if you’d like to donate proceeds of your cosmetic funds to PBS do have a click over!

Sometimes it’s not always about make up! 😉

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. No! Go back to the Gorey opening and Diana Rigg, da**it! This is wrong on so many levels.

I’d also prefer to see the Cookie Monster as host of Monsterpiece Theater rather than this “Classic” nonsense. Why not hire him? I’m sure he works cheap.

  • the Muse

I love alan cumming hehe. I cant help myself;) I’m actually quite happy to see him do the opening. I do miss the cool Gorey opening but it’s better than having some other arse doing it!

Amen sister. Cookie Monster would be better than freaking Gillian Anderson. Don’t get me wrong I love X-Files as much as the next person but for me that’s entirely the point..she’s too sci-fi for Masterpiece Theater!

    yak!

Did you all see Bleak House?! Gillian Anderson was brilliant in it. You ask me, she wasted too many good years on X-Files. And she can do a British accent as good as any Brits because she grew up in London and that was her first language! Now days she lives in London and is full of the British accent. Too bad they decided to use her American accent, presumably because Masterpiece Theatre is shown to an American audience. Frankly, I do think her intros left a lot to be desired, but with a little bit better writing, non-clashing hair/background, it could turn out to be fab.

    hello there anonymous!

I did indeed although it wasn’t my favorite variation of the film it was good! I’m still partial to Diana Riggs!

She did indeed grow up in London but I do always get confused when she puts on a bad american accent. It always sounds quite false..and so the case goes when she does her little introduction for Masterpiece.

She sorta drones on and on and 5 minutes later I’m asleep.

Let’s see…improvements would be background, relaxed disposition, better writing, and definately a brit accent.

    I don’t ask for much do I?

It just appears that she’s rather bored with the host position to me. As if someone is forcing her to do the intro!

Thanks for the comment! Always happy to meet other Masterpiece geeks!

Is it bees Secret Diary of a Callgirl time nows? I love that show! That said, I hates Billie Piper.

Eh. Cut Gillian some slack; she’s not my favorite person either, but she’s one of the few Gingers I don’t hate on site (and yes, I’m including my Grandfather. Old bastard.). If it’s any consolation, she lived in the UK for a while.

As for Alan Cumming, IDK, I myself prefer Americans for the hosts, and AC’s accent is really messing me up.

I can’t wait for him to start plugging ‘Cumming: The Fragrance’ during the opening monologue.

  • the Muse

oh my gods it be call girl time for shizzle.

I like watching Billie in all her glory! (o)Y(o) and ( Y ) <---rocks! hehe 😉 Seriously I’m thinking that’s a body double. That’s not her body! Ugh pleaze I’ll skip on GA! I can’t even forgive her brief stint in the UK! No offending cumming. He’s hot. end of story! LOL! I look forward to that too and any other nasty, naughty bits he throws in! Mystery is to subdued a dig for him!

  • Elaina

Oh wow!! I couldn’t begin to agree with you more!! Vincent Price was the man! And that opening was always the greatest, even when the episodes couldn’t hold their own! I’m a Poirot girl myself, something about that moustache and the accent got me every time!! Lol!!

  • the Muse

    hiya elaine!

Oh lovely Vincent Price. Bless. It truly was a great opening! At least they revamped it well with Alan Cumming! I’ll miss the original but this is good thankfully!

I adore Poirot! He reminds me of a bald Peter Bowles! Must be the moustache 😉

Thanks for the comment! I’m loving that a few Mystery/Masterpiece Theater geeks also read my blog!

    Brilliant!

  • MandyPandy

Then it’s agreed: we’ll replace both those bitches with Madonna and her fake British accent. After Guy Ritchie has cleaned out her bank account, she’s going to need the money (gotta keep Lourdes in moustache wax and Burberry Prorsum somehow).

  • the Muse

perfect! I agree she will need the $$$ for mustache wax…hells they must go through it by the barrell!

At least rocco looks pretty hairless!

    PHEW! Saved!

Maybe they can save some of the shavings and make a wig for the little guy…what’s his name again…the adopted kid….hmmmm I need to brush up on my madonna celebrity gossip obviously ;P

I nearly died when I read this line: “strolls down Madison Avenue toting a PBS tote bag like it’s a Fendi.” Brilliant! I love those tote bags too btw. While I too love PBS and Mystery, my relationship with the channel is somewhat conflicted – as it was one of the only channels I was allowed to watch until I was about 17 (that and Nickolodean, remember Nickolodean’s glory days of Pete and Pete and Clarissa?). That’s probably why in adulthood I adore trashy reality shows. Do you remember Faerie Tale Theater on PBS? Still to this day one of my favorites! It’s on DVD now.
PS I share your affection for Alan Cumming, which is what piqued my interest in this blog entry!

    • the Muse

LOL Janice *hugs* I have too many to count as I’m a chronic sponsor of PBS with donations :_D omg of course I remember Clarissa and pete and pete! Yes of course with Shelly Duvall 😀 haha! I have the DVS set but shh don’t tell anyone hehe!!!!! I still watch PBS religiously as I can’t too much mainstream tv outside of the BBC as it’s all so terribly crash 😀 I do like some shows but reality tv is sadly something I can’t tolerate, no offense 😀 Antique Roadshow, Masterpiece, Charlie Rose, etc are some of my favs 😀 and of course. I generally enjoy both historical and contemporary Masterpiece 😀 and was thrilled when David tennant started doing the intros, I find it almost funny in some aspects!

Alan Cumming is lovely isn’t he? 😀

Thanks for sharing! Always such a treat to find a fellow PBS lover!
