Smashbox Wicked Lovely Review

If you lurk here often you probably know I don’t really go for sophisticated looks. I’m a fun loving girl and my choices in cosmetics reflects that part of my personality.

However, I’ve had my eye on a few collections this season that are a bit “grown up”, elegant, and sophisticated one of which happens to be Smashbox Wicked Lovely.

Smashbox Wicked Lovely is made up of an array of interesting shade choices that I would not normally go out of my way to purchase but, as I tested out Wicked Lovely this week I did so end up liking it.

The collection consists of several options to create a “wicked” or a “lovely” look hence the name. In this case you can go from day to evening with certain shades or lighter to darker depending on what your preference is for makeup or like me you may just enjoy variety.

Smashbox did a lovely job with the packaging on the collection. Each box is printed with “Wicked Lovely” and features pink that melds into dark black. I found this packaging quite in keeping with the concept of the collection. Each black compat features a twirling floral design on the lid of each item. The gloss was particularly with a little hanging tassle from it’s cap. A bith goth and a bit innocent the design definately mimics the theme of both a bit naughty and a little bit nice.

One of my very favorite items in this collection is the Smashbox Wicked Lovely Blush in Rush. It’s not my normal shade of blush as I tend to lean towards very cute, pink cheeks as I feel they are most flattering however Rush is a warm, dusty rose shade with just a tiny hint of shimmer. The effect Rush produces is more of contoured, sophisticated look. I really liked the natural, warm look I created using Rush. I was pleased with how well Rush simply worked with just about everything else in the Wicked Lovely collection as well! Now Rush is a great color but allow me to mention the very interesting packaging design as well. This happens to have a really nifty pull out mirror housed underneath the compact. The mirror is attached to the compact and is not removable however it easily slides in and out of the underside of the blush compact for easy access! Small, important touches like this are always a pleasure as far as the Muse is concerned!

The collection also includes two eye items, a liner and loose shimmer compact and a duo eyeshadow. The shadow duo is available in two color selections, I tried out the Sexy/Demure version of the shadow duos. The compact contains a shimmery peachy shade and a shimmery brown. You’re supposed to use the brown as a liner but you can of course use it as a shadow if you please. The peachy shade feels a bit different in texture compared to the brown, it has a velvet like formula that has a frosty effect when on the eyes, almost a mod look about it. The brown is more of a shimmering silky powder. Pairing the two up by using the peach shade on your lid and crease and finishing with the brown as a lower lash liner creates a frosty, shimmering look with hints of both cuteness and innocence as well as an edge do to the liner.

The second eye item included with the collection is the Wicked Lovely Liner and Loose Shimmer which is an interesting little item. It contains three gel liners the likes of which happen to be my favorite item from Smashbox. I’m not a fan of MAC Fluidline and have used Smashbox Cream Eye Liner for many years so having three shades in one compact is rather nice. The compact is versatile as you have the option to use the liners as a base for the loose shimmer and shadows or you can line your eyes using it. In order to create the Smashbox Wicked look the darkest shade of the liners is used as a base for the loose shimmer. The liner shades are Taupe, Bronze, and Gray and each has a metallic finish. The shimmering powder is a pewter gray that’s perfect for use with a smoky eye look.

And finally to finish up your look Smashbox released some interesting glosses and a dual ended lip pencil/liner duo. Smashbox Doubletake Lip Color works double duty lining and filling lips. Each end has a different shade of lip color with a different finish. One end contains a nude pink-peach shade that’s creamy, mod, and nude while the other end contains a peachy pink shade that has a shimmering finish.

The glosses are extra cute in this collection with a hanging tassel on the top of each gloss. The color I tried was Coy which is a nude shade. The applicator is a lip brush which I prefer as it gets a nice amount of color onto lips. Coy happens to be an extremely nude shade and not my typical lip color however I am going outside the norm with a majority of this collection so it was interesting trying out a new look using this gloss!

Since I wanted to recreate the Smashbox Wicked and Lovely, the colors I got were everything used in each look on the website, duping the looks was fun. I did a total of four looks with the collection, two of which were using the exact products used on the models for the Wicked Lovely shoot.

I liked the way my Wicked look came out best so I’ll show you that first. To dupe the look I took a look at the Smashbox Wicked Lovely video available on the site. Click on over for a look if you like!

I used Smashbox Wicked Lovely Cream Liner and Loose Shimmer on my lids. I first used the gray metallic shade as a base and topped it with the loose shadow. I followed up with the Smashbox Wicked Lovely Blush in Crush on my cheeks and finished by using the Smashbox Wicked Lovely Doubletake Lip Color to fill in my lips. The side I used was the peachy mod shade. I proceeded to top my lips with a coat of Smashbox Wicked Lovely Lip Gloss in Coy and there you go I’m Wicked!

For my Lovely look I used the same products for my lips and face as I did for my Wicked look. For my eyes I used the Smashbox Wicked Lovely Eyeshadow Duo in Sexy/Demure. Sexy was used to line my lower lash line and Demure I used as an all over color wash. I don’t think my Lovely look came out nearly as nice as my Wicked look for some reason! Le Sigh!

Finally I spiced things up and went and did my own versions of the Wicked and Lovely looks by adding a few other items into the mix of things!

In this case I think my Lovely look came out better than my Wicked look this time around! For my lovely look I just used Demure eyeshadow all over my eye. I used the other side of the dual ended lip pencil which was the shimmery pink shade and topped it with some clear gloss. On my cheeks I used a peach shade instead of the dusty rose.

I liked how much better Demure looked without Sexy on the bottom lash line. It gave my eyes a nice bright look and really created an aura of innocence and “lovely”.

Now my Wicked inspired look I didn’t like. I used the same color shades for my eye as in my previous Wicked look but finished my lips with a deeper shade of color. For some reason the colors contrasted rather badly. I also lined my bottom waterline and upper lash line but it seems to have a bit overkill!

So…that’s all folks!

Smashbox Wicked Lovely Fall Collection definately has a little something for everyone especially if you’re a big lover of natural, nude shades. I have my eye on a few other pieces for the selection myself such as the Sultry lip gloss!

Beautiful! Wonder if I will ever see this in my smashbox counter at sephora…

    Have a great weekend, Muse!

    (where’s the superorgasm?where’s the superorgasm?)

BTW, i received my penny lane blush early this week and it’s just perfect!

  • DaisyChain

You really suit the more “grown up” looks, as well as your girly playful ones.

I need to stop coming by your site, my wish list gets longer by the day!

  • the Muse

LOL THIS WEEK NARS ORGASM WILL REIGN!!!!!!! *shakes fist* hehe!

Ooo I lvoe penny lane! Delightful shade 🙂

  • Phyrra

I think once I’m not broke I really want to try out one of the eye shadow duos and the blush.

    I like the Sexy/Demure (shimmering charcoal/shimmering peach).
But ILOVE that loose silver shimmer. That stuff is gorgeous.

You look ABSOLUTELY Gorgeous with this stuff. I love the shimmer to the eyes. It really appeals to me. I think it’s the prettiest shimmer I’ve seen on you 🙂

  • LithiaBlack

    Oh, thats a lovely look!
And I truly adore the pretty packaging!
I have also been drawn to more “mature” looks recently, I don’t know why…

Hmm,I really like the look of the duo but I’ve never tried Smashbox before…how is the shadows?
I’m a bit skeptic to very shimmery shadows after my fiasco with a Too Faced duo I bought. It was complete disco ball effect with glitter all over my face that didn’t come off until I took away the whole make up. And i tried all my brushes but it remained the same :/
Any similar effect with this duo?

  • the Muse

    hey dd!

I think the blush would be awesome on your skin tone 🙂

I agree the shimmer is yummie!

aw shucks thanks DD! You always brighten up my blog with your awesome comments!

  • the Muse

    hiya LithiaBlack!

    Thanks love!

Me too. it’s a little bit goth to it!

Me too, it’s strange as I am all about loud color!

These shadows are different from any of the regular line. They have a velvet finish. Good color payoff too!

    Which duo from too faced?

If you prep really well you shouldn’t have a prob with fall out.

These won’t give you too much fall out as compared to many other shadows I tried/used.

    😉

  • the Muse

ps have you tried sponge applicators?

I find they layer color well without having major fall out 🙂

  • DyahAlit

blog hoppin'! love the look u did with the loose shimmer <3 u look sooo prettaaaay!

  • Sher

the first look is gorgeous on you!! I love bluish compacts that have mirrors! I always touch up my blush and it takes less space if I dont have to hull around an extra compact!

  • Shefali

Hey Muse! You gotta try Sultry…it’s AWESOME. It’s the only thing I bought from the collection and I’m dying over it!

  • Anonymous

    Hi,

I've been reading your blog devoutly everyday, and I must say that your first look here is the best I've seen on you so far. 🙂 Every aspect of the makeup (blush, eyes, & lips) plays out your natural beauty. Love it!

  • Sminkan

    Hello gorgeous!

You look great in these sophisticated colors. Actually, you look great in any color! But I liked these for autumn and I could see myself wear them too. Well, I’m a colorhappy, funlovling person just like you, but I do have a thing for a smokey eye in neutrals… A lot of grey and taupe colors are very appealing to me. And ashy browns…

Just wanted to tell you that I still hang around.

    Big hug!

I love the first two looks best! Might have to pick this collection up for myself 🙂

Wicked lovely? This shit is ‘wicked sparkly’, to use Boston-speak! Or should I say ‘wicked spaaahhkly’.

My favorite look the first one. I’m loving the shirt, too. It was an ‘eyelet embroidery’ kind of day, wasn’t it?

  • Haru

    Hey Izzy,

I love the ‘Wicked’ look on you, that shimmery metallic grey is absolutely gorgeous!

I’ve only purchased the Tokidoki collection from Smashbox previously and was quite disappointed. Since then, nothing from Smashbox has really tempted me. But thanks for the awesome review!

  • Ilianexy

OMG! I love makeup so much!! I love glittery makeup! That whole collection is amazing!

  • Lithia Black

    Hello again!
I have the one called "duo eye shadow" that is two colors in one small round compact.
I have the nuance called "Poodle & Puff (a very light shimmery pink with a cooltoned shimmery brown) and I tried it with foam applicators, my super soft ponyhair brushes, my little stiffer goathair brushes and with UDPP or Stillife Paint from MAC as primer but nothing works 🙁
I'm always very careful when applying this shadow but the glitter/shimmer always fall down om my cheeks and stay there no matter how much loose powder I place underneath to protect them. It's too bad because I really like the colors, they are perfect for those days when I'm in a hurry and are unispired. 🙁

  • the Muse

    hi sher!

Thanks honey! I do too. I’m particularly loving this slides out as others are inside and get messy!

I agree I haul around enough as is 🙂

  • the Muse

    hi Shefali!

Uh oh something else for my wish list! LOL! Ok if you says it’s good I’ll go get it 😉

  • the Muse

    hi Anonymous!

First of all thank you very much for visiting me daily. I truly appreciate it 🙂

Aw thanks so very much! I really appreciate your kind feedback 🙂

Thanks for visiting with me and I hope to hear from you again really soon!

    Cheers!

  • the Muse

    hi sminkan!

    How are you!?

    Aw shucks thanks!

I have to say as much as I love color I’m with you with smokey eyes and naturals 🙂 especially lately!

Aww I’m glad you’re around! I sure did miss you!

    Hugs!

  • the Muse

    hi ashleigh!

Thanks honey! definately grab some of it as they have some really great pieces in the line 🙂

  • the Muse

    Mandy!

Where ya been!?!?! I thought you liked all my sparkleys *sniff*

It was indeed an eyelet kinda day..today happens to be an eyelet day too..you know..those days sometimes happen 😉

    hehe!

  • the Muse

    Morning Iris!

    Thanks honey *hugs*

I did too but I wasn’t so into it. the colors were disappointing and bad color pay off. But I still adored the compacts with tokidoki on it!

Nothing has recently caught my eye from Smashbox recently either. I have staple products like the liner and a few blushes but the collections have really gotten me until this one! I love the warmer colors of Wickled Lovely 🙂 and the shadows are rather great!

You’re most welcome, it’s my pleasure MWAH!

    Miss you!

  • the Muse

    hello Ilianexy!

Hehe I do too. Thanks for the comment!

Hope to talk to you again soon!

  • the Muse

    hello Lithia Black!

    Happy Monday!

Hmmm sorry to hear how disappointing this was for you! Damn! I never tried the trio nuance you are talking about. Could be a problem with that one.

I can totally relate to glitter/shimmer fall out sigh 🙁 I have the very same problem no matter how much I prep!

I did notice it’s better when I use a paint pot.

Shoot. Sorry this didn’t work for you darlin!

  • MandyPandy

No, no! I love the sparklies almost as much as I love you, I swears it! I was just using my regular New Jersey-speak. You know how we use words like ‘shit’ and ‘bitch’ as regular nouns, verbs and adjectives; they’re practically not even considered profanity here. Yeah, basically we have to curse every 5 minutes or we explode. It’s a scientific fact!

And I love the eyelet shirts (though the first one is my clear favorite).

  • the Muse

    *sniffs and hiccups*

    ok I believes you 🙂

    LOL!

indeed….but you aren’t from Jersey so what the hell are you on about girl!?

does that eyelet make me too sexy? or just sexy enough?

    Whatta ya think?

*turns around, twirls, hand on hip*

  • LithiaBlack

    Hello again Muse!

Well. It’s a fun thing about me and cosmetics. I’m rarely disappointed when I buy budget brands like Viva La Diva but more expensive brands fail more often for me. Or maybe it’s me that don’t judge them by the same standard? Well, it’s a good thing that I have a wast collection of make up so a “few bad buys” don’t spoil my whole make up routine 😛
(And since I fell into the “mineral make up pool” my make up stash is looking like a rainbow 😛

  • the Muse

    hi there again 🙂

I’ve def had my fair share of disappointments 😛

I’ve hard of Viva La Diva..do they have a website by chance?

Sometimes it’s the cheap stuff that’s the best 🙂

I think minerals are sometimes too good to pass up and we want ALL the colors lol!

  • LithiaBlack

For some strange reason Viva La Diva does not have a website of their own.
The only online content I’ve seen for them is a swedish webshop that stock some of their wast collection.(I personally like their eyeliner pencils very much, they have the perfect creamy formula for me and come in lots of colors, the webshop only have 12 of them ;))

  • the Muse

    hi again lithia!

    Damn them! 🙂

Thanks for the link! Going over to have a look now weeeee!
