Dr. Andrew Weil for Origins Be Weil Collection Review

Ok so whoa.

I totally had an enlightening experience when I got home from work today. Yes, occasionally these things occur for the Muse. I straightened my halo and skincare enlightenment was mine but only temporarily as I’m sure tomorrow I’ll be doomed again but for now I’m in my special place and experiencing nirvana.

Muse! Muse! How did you become enlightened?

So you know how I’m a total creature of habit when it comes to my skincare? Lush Cosmetics for this Muse all the way! Today I broke that rule when I started playing around with Dr. Andrew Weil for Origins Be Weil Collection…dontcha love it? Be Weil? Ha! The corny factor makes me giggle myself silly. The Muse is easily amused to say the least.

First off I completely adore Origins offhanded marketing on Dr. Andrew Weil! It appeals to the Muse’s sense of humor and actually makes me look at the products in a new light.

Here’s a picture of Dr. Andrew Weil and Origins proceeds to ask on it’s website What does a 66 year old man with a white beard know about beauty?

You now have my attention Origins! Aside from looking like Santa I’m thinking Dr. Weil probably knows next to nothing about this Muse’s beauty regime….turns out I’m wrong and he’s right. He does know a thing or two about beauty…skincare in particular.

Dr Weil doesn’t only look like Santa but he’s also giving skincare away like Santa! The new Origins Be Weil Collection is chock full of awesome products all in full sizes and all for $79.50 USD! It’s a New Year soon and you may be looking for a new skincare regime or you might be immune to your old one so here in lays a great excuse to try something new and at a really great price tag.

I normally avoid doing skincare reviews until I tried said items for a few weeks or months but I seriously couldn’t resist blogging this because at first touch, first sniff, and first look I kinda got the vibe this could be a good one.

Dr. Andrew Weil for Origins Be Weil Collection includes all of the following products:

  • Dr. Andrew Weil for Origins Plantidote Mega-Mushroom Face Cleanser 1.7 oz
  • Dr. Andrew Weil for Origins Conditioning Lip Balm with Turmeric
  • Dr. Andrew Weil for Origins Plantidote Mega-Mushroom Body Cream 4 oz
  • Dr. Andrew Weil for Origins Plantidote Mega-Mushroom Face Serum 1 oz
  • Dr. Andrew Weil for Origins Plantidote Mega-Mushroom Face Cream 1 oz

I know the entire Mega-Mushroom thing sounds kinda weird. I was thinking along the lines of this:

But I promise it’s not strange at all! The entire line has a wonderfully pleasant herbal scent and an incredible texture ad formula. One of the main things that really caught and held my interested was how well all of the lotions, creams, and serums in the collection effortlessly glided and absorbed into my skin. The formula is outstanding in that aspect and really felt pleasing and cooling on my skin. I can’t do a more detailed review of each item as of yet but I will once I’ve used them for a spell so today I’ll just give you the bare bones of each product and what it’s used for.

The Plantidote Mega-Mushroom Face Serum sounds like an absolute dream for all skin types.

Do you have skin sensitivity? Extreme dryness? Redness? Hyperpigmentation? Lines? Wrinkles? Puffiness? Are you a flusher-blusher? All of these diverse skin conditions have something in common, what Dr. Weil calls the fire within. Sometimes its barely perceptible, but its there, proceeding unnoticeably until it sets into motion a cascade of unwanted events.

Of course extreme dryness caught my eye and I can picture this calming my dry skin and creating a nice layer of protection against harsh winter weather! It seems an ideal item for use after my regular nice cream for added moisture. I’m looking forward to testing it out further.

The Plantidote Mega-Mushroom Face Cream also sounds amazing and as I mentioned above it sinks into skin so easily!

This remarkable face cream with Hypsizygus ulmarius and Chaga mushrooms immediately helps quiet and calm skin. By mirroring the amazing process that sends Narcissus Lily Bulbs into dormancy as a means of self-protection, it signals skin to conserve its energy to optimize its defenses against age accelerators. Skin has the ability to maintain a stronger, healthier, more youthful appearance. This patented technology is further supported by Menyanthus and Heather extracts to keep skin firm; Fucoidan from Okinawan seaweed to discourage moisture loss and Vitamins C and E to defend against destructive oxidation.

I’ve already used the Plantidote Mega-Mushroom Face Cleanser tonight but I do need to test further before giving my full review. Here’s what the site has to say about it:

This extremely gentle, milky lotion cleanser features a proprietary, signature blend Hypsizygus ulmarius, Cordyceps and Reishi Mushrooms, Ginger, Turmeric and Holy Basil as well as skin soothing Bisabolol from Chamomile and Licorice Extract. It quickly removes makeup, dirt, debris and impurities without upsetting skin’s naturally protective lipid balance and keeps even highly sensitive or reactive skin calm throughout the cleansing process.

For your body you’ll want to try out the Plantidote Mega-Mushroom Body Cream, again totally love this since it glides on and absorbs so wonderfully! It’s soft, fluffy, and simply sinks in upon contact with the skin! My knees and elbows are thanking me at the moment!

This intensely emollient cream with my signature blend of Hypsizygus ulmarius, Reishi and Cordyceps Mushrooms, Ginger, Turmeric and Holy Basil, along with Larch Tree Extract, wraps skin in deeply satisfying moisture. Natural skin-identical lipids including Murumuru, Shea, Cocoa and Cupuacu butters help reseal skins vulnerable surface against incoming irritants. Skin is completely comfortable and its vital barrier is well-protected against potential damage.

And lastly the Plantidote Conditioning Lip Balm which looks like a great little stick to have around come the colder weather when the Muse’s lips start cracking and chapping!

This highly emollient lip healer with Turmeric, Cocoa Butter, Jojoba, Sunflower and Sesame Seed Oils, Muru Muru and Candillila seriously helps heal dryness and relieve roughness. Rapidly restores softness and smoothness to overly parched lips.

Overall, I do have to say I’m pretty impressed and that’s saying alot considering how picky I am about skincare. I highly recommend checking out Dr. Andrew Weil for Origins Be Weil Collection as it’s quite an interesting selection of good quality items. I’ll be doing a deeper review of each item after I’ve used them for few weeks but if what I seen so far is anything to go on I’d say I should be a happy camper. I’m currently debating and I think I may indulge in two more sets as gifts for friends as you can’t go wrong for the price taking into consideration the size of each item. I’m actually making a good excuse to do an order because the Plantidote Mega-Mushroom Eye Serum has caught my eye and you know how the Muse is on an epic journey to discover the very best eye cream around!

I’m really feeling this one and although I haven’t done a deep enough review to warrant it I’m sticking a Muse Approval on it just for the value alone and the formula which impressed me on touch!

Do check it out at www.origins.com or at your local Origins counter!

    Hi Musey Muse Muse!

This does look like an incredible deal! Sadly, I can’t do “natural” skin care..tried origins years ago (think: when the black-coal? Clay? mask was “new”) and it broke me out horribly!

I also wanted to say that you are very bad, but in a good way. You write about so much stuff that I just have to have it..hmmmn. Also, about makeup storage for you or your readers: check out HSN.com as well..under their crafts storage, they have a ton of stuff that is adaptable.

    Musey Muse,

Disclaimer: I worked for Origins forEVER, and probably still “bleed green.” BUT, I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE the Plantidote line. Dr. Weil really *does* know what he’s talking about, and I think you will continue to love the products. Not sure if the eye serum is going to be your Holy Grail, but I think you’ll like it.

Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on it, as you continue using everything.

    Love,
    KimmyD

Yay for skincare posts! I’m trying this new thing where I spend THE MOST time on my skincare, and then just use a big of liner, lipgloss and Becca LSC. And some blush sometimes. Lol.

Question time: How much Snowcake do you buy to last you all year??? We just got our Snowcake in Lush stores right now, and last year I bought 100g, which lasted me, like, a month, and I want heaps more this year! Also, is it easy to store it to last????

    Love ya!

  • the Muse

    hello there elizabeth 🙂

awww shoot that sounds terrible! I know quite a few people who can’t go organic ;( I guess Lush does the same for you!?

LOL well thank you *hugs* I’m flattered you enjoy the reviews so much that you end up spilling $$ on them due to my insanity lol 🙂 I do get flattered when people say they purchase an item thanks to my rec! 🙂 I hope you’ve discovered some interesting products after reading my crazy babblings!

oh thanks! I’m on it 🙂 I never really looked on HSN for makeup storage but I’ll have a peek! Thanks babe!

Hugs and thanks for the comment!

    Made my night!

  • the Muse

    hey kimmy!

LOL sounds like you really loved the line and working there too!

I can use you for recs 🙂 how about the no puffs eye thingy? I get readers asking me about it all the time but I was skeptical about purchasing it 🙂

    Big hugs!

Good to see you been a while since we talked in the comment box 🙂

  • the Muse

hey miss dancinggal! How are ya!

i think that’s a fab idea! as much as I love bold colors and outrageous makeup I must say that minimal rules!

I’m embarrassed to say this but every year at the end of October I place an order from UK Lush for an entire slab of snowcake…it equally to about 50 or so 100g slices. Maybe a bit less depending on how it’s sliced. An entire slab used to cost me $130 usd but it’s since gone up and costs around $160-176 USD…i’m that diseased about snowcake 🙁

to get through a year you really need to stock up since snowcake melts away so very very quickly 🙁 I normally store my slab in a giant plastic tupperware box. You can store smaller pieces in the same way and place it in a cold, dark closet. It’ll remain fresh all year as long as the air isn’t constantly touching it. You have to be careful as the soap is made from fresh ingredients which causes it to “sprout” little plants and stuff lol! So in a sealed airtight tupperware box is ideal to keep it fresh!

I know it’s alot but I find that $80 USD lasts me about 8 months…so that’s about what you want to spend on it if you’re using it about 4 times a week…I wish it didn’t melt so fast 🙁

also if you want a bar to last longer you can cure it which simply means remove it from the wrapper and place it in my underwear draw for about three days..this will harden the soap and it will last longer plus it’ll scent your undies nicely while it’s curing…weird I know.

and lastly since you have a love affair with snowcake drop your address in my inbox and I’ll send a small sample of the perfume and shower gel into the mail for you 🙂

Every snowcake fan should try the perfume and shower gel at least once 😉

    Hugs!

The No Puffery Cooling Eye Mask is awesome– it DOES work! A tube also lasts a really long time, because you don’t need much. I suggest leaving it on for about 10 minutes on mornings when it’s needed, then proceed with the regular eye routine. It feels heavenly, and really reduces puffiness.

  • Elizabeth

LMAO I just have to say..I don’t *think* I want to buy anything that would sprout “plants” or trees, or wild hairs..LOL! But, I’m glad that you have something that you love so much! 😉

I’ve never tried lush! I look at it, but I just can’t, can’t, can’t justify like $5 plus for a bath-thinga-ma-bob. I’m not big into bubble or sitting in my funkay self-stuff 😉 so maybe that’s why? Plus, the nearest store is something like 50 miles from me, so it wouldn’t be a “convenient” addiction, either!

Now you have me eyeing cleansing oil..never thought I needed that..hmmmnn..maybe I thought wrong. See what you do? I now have thoughts I didn’t even know I needed to think! 🙂

  • Sihaya

    hey muse!
i would love to if you could include photos of ingredients list in your post next time you are doing a skincare review! usually it’s so hard to find them…
    xoxo

Trying a new line of skin care is a scary thing so I’m always pleasantly surprised when something works out for me. Recently, I’ve picked up a kit by Patricia Wexler and I really like it. I don’t know anything about this line of Dr. Weil’s skincare except that he was once promoted by Oprah…which could be a good sign? She didn’t stear me wrong on the Clarisonic, which I love:) lol! Hope it goes well for you:)

  • the Muse

    hey kimmy!

It sounds like exactly what I’ve been looking for! I have gotten so many emails asking me about it and I wasn’t sure how exactly to use it 🙂

I wake up with mega puffy eyes ewww!

    Thanks for the rec!

  • the Muse

    hi Elizabeth!

You mean Lush? lol..yea kinda weird…but it’s good stuff 🙂 That just happens if you keep it for over a year…Lush has an expiration of a year 🙂

I’m a big lush addict so I really can’t say no to a majority of their items especially the wonderful skincare!

    aww 50 miles is alot!

    LOL!!!!!!! I’m guilty 😉 I fear I create nutty lemmings 😉

    =-)

    Thanks for the comment Elizabeth!

    Have a great weekend!

  • the Muse

    hi Sihaya!

I’ll see about doing ingreds when I do a deeper review. The thing is I have so much to type up, plus pics, watermarking etc..listing ingredients is one more thing to add to the list :-0 Origins lists everything on the site I believe 😉

If not will do so with the deeper review!

  • the Muse

    hi paige!

For sure. I am too. Honestly I’m kinda a creature of habit with skincare so when sometime does work I’m somewhat shocked.

So far I simply love the formula..eager to start and see what my skin is looking like in a month 🙂

Aww the clarisonic just wasn’t for me 😛 I hated it! Le sigh! Really wanted to LOVE it but hated it 😛

    Happy Weekend Paige!

i’m so glad you’re doing origins reviews now as i love them!

  • the Muse

hi robin! I’m so glad you’re enjoying the kit! I’m really loving how the cream glides on and disappears on contact! Feels like I don’t need to tone or prime prior 🙂

    Super stuff!

    Have a great weekend!

  • pockeeyum

    hi muse!

I recently just finished my sample of the Plantidote Mega-Mushroom Face Cream and I loved it! It’s just a nice, light, and not overly greasy face cream. I’m also in love with the scent 🙂 I look forward to reading your more in-depth review on this product in the future!

  • the Muse

    hi there pockeeyum!

That’s exactly my impression of it! So light and fluffy! I liked the scent too…it’s very herbal and fresh!

I have the mask from this line and it’s heavenly. It always calms my skin down, no matter how it freaks out. It’s like Xanax for my face!
