Musings of the Day: To Cheap or Not To Cheap

So here it is….that scary question of whether you prefer cheaping it out with drugstore cosmetics and finding golden nuggets among epic fails or are you a counter girl who prefers high end to low end?

The Muse happens to be a counter girl and rarely ventures far from it. She’s all about high end skincare, haircare, and cosmetics. Sadly, it’s very rare I find drugstore products that work. If I think about it I can probably shell out $50 or more dollars before finding a single item at my local drugstore that works. For that I might as well just head to my local Sephora and pick up the item that I know will get the job done and not having to go through a dozen or more products I can’t test or return at a drugstore!

I’m not dissing on lower end cosmetics nor am I saying higher end are easy to afford but I just personally feel like about 85% of drugstore cosmetics, skincare, and haircare are simply rubbish in my humblest opinion and I’d rather spend the extra $ on a counter brand. For example I can probably get a quad from say L’Oreal at my local drugstore for around $8.99 or less….chances are it’s not a great formula, doesn’t blend well, and isn’t really all that pigmented. I might as well just throw in the extra $5 bucks or so and snag a single pigmented eyeshadow from MAC and be all the happier for it!

This isn’t to say all drugstore brands are bad because I’m found a few gems here and there myself.

So the Muse is in the “not to cheap” category.

How about you?

Love your drugstore cosmetics?

Can’t get enough of the higher end counter brands?

Tell the Muse!

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. If you’re that person feel free to reach out and leave a comment or follow me on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Bloglovin‘.
