Smashbox Hybrid 2 in 1 Luminizing Primer Review

Just so you know I sincerely do not like Smashbox Primer. Eep! Sorry Smashbox the Muse no likey! It breaks me out terribly and it pills horribly and lord shall I go on? Isn’t that enough to make you want to cry?

When I heard about Smashbox Hybrid 2 in 1 Luminizing Primer which was released with the Spring 2009 Collection, I kinda sorta felt intrigued simply because it looked all shimmery and pretty. The Muse’s brain works on one level, present her with anything that glows or looks shimmery and her brain registers it as an instant yes, wants it!

Jump ahead for the review!

I believe Smashbox Hybrid 2 in 1 Luminizing Primer was originally released with the Green Room Collection. Correct me if I’m wrong but that’s how the Muse recalls it.

What is it?

It’s actually a luminizer and a primer all in one product. The primer works at prepping your face for makeup and the luminzer highlights skin. Now actually this is where the product fails a teeny tiny bit for me. The packaging is difficult to work with and I’m left wondering if maybe it would have been a better idea to have a primer and a lumininzer separate, two products, two separate packages. Two products, one package…no likey. The tube that this is housed in has a dual chamber and two holes in one spout. This means you have to squeeze the tube just the right way to get the right amount of product out of both chambers. Most times this means you get either too little or too much of any one product. Very difficult packaging to work with and terribly irritating for me. I like my cosmetic sans an MD degree to operate, call me old fashion.

Aside from my rant about the packaging the product overall is quite nice. A little tiny bit goes a long way as you could succumb to disco ball shimmer overload if you apply too much. I actually prefer Smashbox primer when it’s mixed up with the luminizer. It doesn’t pill, doesn’t itch as it normally would, nor does it have a silicon feel, these are all bonuses for me! The formula is gel-like in consistency and absorbs easily into skin leaving behind a peachy, gold finish. Actually I was duly impressed that using this did extend my foundation by a few hours of wear.

I normally use this prior to blush but you can use it after if you desire to highlight cheek bones or you can use it a tiny dab on your eye lids or brow bone for a little hint of shimmer! I do think that this makes a fine product for Summer but I wasn’t feeling it for Spring.

Overall, I did like the product aside from the crummy packaging. It’s well worth checking out if you have a highlight/luminizer fetish or if you’re looking to replenish your current bottle of Smashbox Photofinish Primer why not nab this and get two products in one?

Tried it?

Love it?

Wanting it?
