Urban Decay Pocket Rocket Lip Gloss Review and Swatches

All the hoopla and nekkid men that currently surround Urban Decay Pocket Rocket Lip Gloss has the potential to take away from a really great gloss.

Yes, yes I know you crazy girls are just interested in the men and the underwear that go along with the ride but seriously the gloss is the real star of this show.

Naked men on my gloss? Ok, ok you had me at naked. I told you a little something, something about Urban Decay Pocket Rocket Lip Gloss last week and it was mixed emotions about whether we loved the packaging or we just thought it was strange and slightly perverse. The Muse embraces all that perverse and deems the Pocket Rocket a must have lip gloss for Spring at the very least you can whip it out and tell your friends, “I’m wearing Kirk (or Jesse or Timothy, or James…) on my lips today!” Whoa, that sounded bad right?

Urban Decay Pocket Rocket Lip Gloss gets the award for great packaging. These uber slim glosses pack a whopping 0.27 oz of gloss for $18 USD. Ya know a MAC Lipglass is only 0.17 oz! Lots of pretty gloss and naked men what more could a girl want? Not only is the packaging slim but it’s also a nice substantiate size gloss that fits comfortably in your hand. And bless be it comes with a brush applicator that doesn’t split! The brush applicator is small enough to fit snug back into the tube and doesn’t cause any splits or breaks in the brush because of it’s small, neat design. I’m in heaven. I heart brush applicators the better for gooping on tons and tons of gloss.

The fun doesn’t stop there!

Don’t forget about our guys now! The top of each gloss has a guy who appears completely clothed when tilted one way but tilt it the other way to experience a wicked underwear clad male prancing around your gloss top. Oh my! Flip it over and get the back view too. Hey, some of us are errr dare I say…ass girls? Rub your gloss tube and experience a burst of pheromone so you’re irresistible to your mate or your latest boy toy. My best friend Jai swears the waiter at our table was giving him the eye after he rubbed the back of the gloss but that’s not much to go on considering he thinks every man gives him the eye.

I’m pretty properly chuffed with the formula on these guys. It has nice long wear with just the right amount of tack and stickiness that’s it’s not uncomfortable on the lips. The formula is comparable to a watered down version of MAC Lipglass which is fab as it lacks the tacky feeling of a lipglass and feels way more natural on the lips. Colors have been described as sheer from a few of my kind readers but I thought they had a nice bit of pigment to make lips look full and pretty. I was quite pleased with the overall pigmentation of the product, it’s not wow aspiring but it’s enough color to go without a lippie or a lip stain underneath. The flavor…hmmm that’s in debate at the moment as it’s growing on me. It’s creme brulee flavor but at first I wasn’t loving it but it slowly grew on me. I think it’s way tastier than a lipglass that’s for sure. The gloss has hyaluronic spheres meant to plump and fill lines and wrinkles. The gloss isn’t terribly plumping to me but it does manage to give the illusion of fuller lips when layered on thickly. All the guys are vegan friendly too!

There are eight men to choose from so you’ll never be left without choices! The Muse choose six of the eight men…she wasn’t feeling men like Julio who had a kid…just couldn’t dig the guy with a baby…too much emotional baggage for me to handle at the moment hehe! She went with Timothy, David, James, Eric, Jesse, and Kirk.

Timothy happens to be the all American. He’s the guy you bring home to your parents and have them go “Awwww when’s the wedding?” His color suits his personality as he sports an innocent watermelon pink that’s has a pearl like finish. Your mum will be happy to have Timothy in the family.

Ahh David! The office man! David’s a pretty matte mauve shade without sparkle or glimmer he’s obviously perfect suitable for office wear.

James the emo kid. We all love a bit of emo don’t we? James color doesn’t suit his sulky mood as he’s a popping shade of bright neon pink with an iridescent finish! You’d think he’d be more black and moody wouldn’t you?

Eric has a bit of the European flair we’d like to see in an American male (I’ve never met one but I’m sure they are out there somewhere! This is why the Muse lets her taste run to British men.). His shade is a flaming red minus any sparkle or shimmer to kill the mood, he’s perfect for an evening out, as sophisticated a red as Eric’s personality I’m sure.

Ahhh Jesse! Totally the guy the Muse would go for 10 years ago. Jesse is the rocker and his color suits him to a T! Jesse is a deep purple with hints of maroon and red and a shimmering finish. Jesse is truly a bad, bad boy! Go on you know you want to be Jesse’s girl!

Now Kirk isn’t my normal type guy as he’s a bit of a hippie but his shade sure does please. He quite reminds me of a subdued Midnight Cowboy without the shimmer and sparkle. Simple beige makes for a natural look and perfectly fitting with Kirk’s “green friendly” personality.

Overall, I was freaked out about naked men on my gloss but now that I’m getting into the spirit of things I’m kinda loving these guys! The novelty of the packaging can be deemed cute at the very least, color selection is awesome, the quality of the gloss is pretty great, and the price tag isn’t too bad either. Mmm yeah I like ’em and I think I’ll go ahead and Muse Approve ’em for purchase! You have to try out at least one, go on now which is your guy?

The guys will be available on Urban Decay’s site on March 15 and from Sephora April 1st.

Tried ’em?

Loving ’em?

Are they on your wish list?

Tell the Muse!

I have to thank you for all these swatches.. Most sites only post swatches of a few but you posted pics of the whole line! Thanks so much. I actually bought “Kirk” months ago but returned it because I strongly dislike the smell. However, I love the packaging so much I want to buy it again.. along with a few others! They’re just too cute I think everyone needs at least 1. I want Kirk, James, and David. Thanks again. Lovely pics!

I though these were SO wonderfu & bought 5 when they first came out on UD’s site but PROMPTLY sent them back because the scent is so rank I couldn’t even apply it. Plus I was mad that one of them was leaky & loose, of course the red one, tux guy! I SO WISH I could wear these! I don’t have issue with their lipstick like others seem to though seeing as I have them all even some doubles (for the bathroom in the morning & then in my purse for touchups yay!)

    • the Muse

      hey sparkly.

I got over the weird taste/smell 😀 and kinda few to like it lol! ooo sorry about the leaky one that blows. the lipsticks are fab, hate the taste but love the formula/pigment.

I love the smell! I bought James a few days ago.
I liked the gloss so much that I am no longer guilty for buying it for myself when I was supposed to be Christmas shopping 🙂
    Plus the tube is amazing

    • the Muse

haha monica 😀 I always convince myself the 1 for them and 1 for me policy is always the order of business when shopping for others 😀

      glad you’re enjoying the gloss!

  • Kay

Picked up James the other day and oh em gee, I am hooked! When these first came out I loved the look of them but hated the smell but it’s really grown on me XD Now dying to own some more of the guys but I’m having trouble narrowing it down! Loving Jesse’s colour but the guy ain’t really my type 😛

Thanks for your review, it actually prompted me to give these a second chance and I’m so glad I did! Yummy yummy yummy!

    • the Muse

yay kay nice to hear you re-discovered these! I wasn’t keen on the taste either but kinda grown on it now 😀

  • Becky

What do we mean by rub the tube? So rubbing the tube between your hands releases pheromones? Or when you put it on after doing so? Just curious 😀

    • the Muse

lol it has a strip becky that you rub….its purely for entertainment reasons I imagine 😀

  • Kate
