Musings of a Muse: Did Someone Say Thief?

This Musings was inspired by a reader, Andreea, who was ranting about how much she hates being followed around in a shop and treated like a thief.

Andreea, I feel your pain me love.

So today’s Musings of the Day is all about counters and stores. Do you ever feel like you’re being shadowed by a rep or a store clerk when you’re at Sephora? Or at a counter?

Jump ahead for the Muse’s answer!

YES, YES, YES DAMMIT! All the bloody time. I hate going into Sephora because MA’s literally follow me around and keep asking if I need a basket. They watch me like a hawk! Everything I pick up, anything I touch, their eyes are constantly following me. It’s gotten so bad I rarely step foot into a Sephora anymore, I simply do my ordering online.

Truly I feel like a thief or something the way they follow me around. It’s not even the helpful type of following where they start foaming at the mouth about how great a product is. It’s simply following me and watching me as if I’m going to pocket a lip gloss or a blush.

It’s a rather uncomfortable feeling 🙁 I rarely shop Ulta so I haven’t really experienced this their and counters do the same but mostly it’s annoying MA’s trying to score a sale. But Sephora…damn I feel like a thief. It’s really quite an uncomfortable shopping experience.

What makes me even more irritated is a bunch of teenagers will be destroying a display by playing with everything on it but no one looks at them or goes over to them but me they follow around in circles.

I find it weirdly gratifying to dump my basket on the counter and whip out my credit card. It’s like a strange way of thumbing my nose at them and saying, “SEE? I have money to buy this stuff…amazing right?!”

How about you?

Ever feel like a thief with a pocket full of money?

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. If you’re that person feel free to reach out and leave a comment or follow me on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Bloglovin‘.

I’ve never been to Sephora. I do most of my make up shopping at Ulta. The people at Ulta are very helpful, and don’t follow you around, expecting you to steal lol. Although, I have experienced that at Claire’s and Icing (by Claire). I hate being harassed…sheesh. The store at which you shop must have had some shoplifting issues in the past for them to be following around their customers constantly.

I find Ulta and Sephora to be equally watchful, following, and because of that annoying. Unlike you, I find it impossible to want to spend anything at all and by doing so reward their bad treatment of me as a customer with my hard-earned cash. Most of the times, I memorize the scent or shades and products and purchase them online instead; so I leave without purchasing- even when I came intending to buy! In other words, it ruins my shopping experience. It is a shame because unlike department stores it is convenient the way Ulta and Sephora devote themselves to just beauty products. Bath and Body Works, Yankee Candle, and Victoria’s Secret are bad in this overly helpful, follow around like a shadow technique as well.
