Simples Rules for Sun Protection Brought To You By Neutrogena

I recently fell in love with Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry Touch Sun Block because of it’s rather nifty little price tag and it’s SPF of 85+! Kaching! Thanks Neutrogena I just saved $30 bucks! I purchased it at CVS for under $10 or so, um hello awesome considering my normal SPF is in the $40-$50 range.

Speaking of sun protection Neutrogena has some simple tips for protecting your skin this Summer (and all times) and an interesting survey about the habits of sun protection in the US.

I found it interesting reading!

Americans are obviously not as responsible as we may believe in protecting themselves against the sun. I knew it, I just knew it! One more reason to move to Asia, Asian chicas take sun protection super serious (as does a Muse). Neutrogena commissioned a survey of over 2000 Americans to learn their sun protections habits and the word is out that 60% rarely or never use sunscreen. Ahh in 20 years they can use their skin as a belt or make a nice leather purse with it!

The survey revealed:

  • 80% of adults agree that sun exposure can be deadly (so why aren’t you using sunscreen people?)
  • 70% reported getting sunburned at least once per a year.
  • 13% apply sunscreen daily (I’m so embarrassed by these numbers!)

Americans obviously are not taking the idea of sun protection as serious as they should. Not only does the sun age skin but skin cancer is a very real disease!

Here’s a few simple rules to follow everyday, every season, whether the sun is out full blown or not.

  • Sunscreens should be applied to dry skin 15 to 30 minutes before going outdoors.
  • The higher the SPF, the better the protection.
  • Sunscreen should be applied liberally and evenly to all uncovered skin.
  • Reapply at least every two hours, or according to the product’s instruction (depending on what you use and if you’re in water you can skip this step)

Sun protection is an important topic all year round. Just because it’s Summer you shouldn’t drop everything and worry about SPF. The fact is you should drop everything and be worried about it 12 months out of the year as it’s an important anti-aging step and also good protection against possible skin cancer disease.

What are you sun protection tips?

What are your fav SPF’s?

I’d love to hear ’em!
