Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse Foundation Review

Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse Foundation gets a bad wrap on most reviews the Muse has read but I’ll tell you a secret…shhh…I kinda dig it!

Jump ahead for my review.

When the Muse is feeling all lazy and isn’t up for a whole face of makeup she uses a dab of Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse Foundation and calls it a day.

Before I tell you why I like it let me get the bad stuff out of the way. One, it’s likely going to settle into fine lines or large pores if you sport either. Two, it’s not going to mattify your skin, yes the name says matte, but I experienced no oil control when using it.

I hear so many reviews of how people look made up with this on and how it has a cakey finish and honestly I’ve experienced none of this. A simple dab will do you well so yes if you proceed to slather this on as you would a normal foundation chances are you will be made up. However, a simple dab or two and you’ll be golden. This is the kinda foundation I dig for the days I’m being lazy. It’s an ideal foundation for anyone who doesn’t need nor desire a ton of coverage. It doesn’t wear incredibly long but it’s great for running errands with or heading out for a quick bite, etc….as it evens out skin tone and creates a good canvas for a simple blush or cheek stain. It’s my minimal makeup product of choice.

The formula is a thick, whipped mousse that blends quite nicely onto my skin. I don’t have fine lines nor do I have large pores so it absorbs easily, mess-free, without settling on my face like a mask. It feels incredibly silky and almost silicon-like. It’s pretty pigmented and evens out my tone well erasing dullness and creating a good canvas for makeup. I tend to wear very minimal makeup when I use it as I don’t think it’ll hold well with a whole load of makeup but for use with a bit of cheek stain or powder blush it’s perfection.

I’m not keen on the packaging as I’m a germ-a-phobe so dipping my fingers into a pot to apply isn’t my ideal idea of good packaging. I tend to use a disposable sponge with each use that way I can get a dab on a new sponge without handling the product and creating a breeding playground for bacteria. After use I simply toss the sponge.

A find one or two dabs can do my entire face and I’m left looking quite flawless and ready for blush. As I mentioned above it doesn’t wear incredibly long and feels like it melts off after about 2-3 hours of use but for the days I’m just running to the grocery or something unimportant it’s great as I’m not keen on going out completely nude without a face on.

Overall, Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse Foundation isn’t going to change your coverage life but it’s a great one for minimal makeup days. If you have good skin and don’t require a ton of coverage minus large pores or fine lines this should be a great little find for natural coverage.

Call me crazy but I tend to lean towards the likey side of this foundation.

Hey you.. I’ve been crazy over this particular product and searching, reading, watching like mad. Just name it, Google, Youtube, blogs and yours too =)

I’m 24 this year and just recently, I have this huge liking towards makeup.
I’ve started doing it since last Sept, October I think?? Ahaha.. I know, I know..
Call me a late bloomer, slowpoke or whatever. After my teaching practical at this all-boys school only I feel like I want to apply some makeup.

A student asked me – Why you don’t put makeup like my mad sis do?
It hit me instantly. Was 23 yrs old, when will I start?

So, here goes.. I wanna to try a foundation. My first one.
I mean, I have the Benefit’s Hello Flawless, but it’s more like a powder to me.
I wanna more coverage and I hate those heavy and thick fluid foundation.

Could you help me please? How to choose the correct shade?
Is it one shade lighter or darker than my skin?
I’ve read somewhere that this product will dry to a lighter color.

Many thanks to you dear Muse..

Hi there Nadia. I know the question was directed at Muse but I thought I’d chip in with an answer. If there is a sample of the foundation, test it out on your jawline and see how it looks like in natural light. The shade that ‘disappears’ into your skin is your perfect match.
Lets say however that you are stuck with a color that is slightly lighter or darker, I would personally pick a lighter shade because it is easier to balance it with a darker powder rather than the opposite. However, thats just me. Hope this helps. ^^

Hello lady! Just a quick question, how do you think the pigmentation, wear, and feel compares to the its concealer counterpart? I love the Matte Mousse Concealer but use it up insanely quick. I was hoping to achieve the same highly pigmented, matte finish, long wearing result I got from that in a bigger pot!

Heey. I recently bought bare minerals and thought it pretty ***! I was concidering hello flawless but then I thought it might not give enough coverage, so do you think hello flawless or Dream Matte Mouse is better ? (I have quite oily skin, especially the forehead, and often get a few spots) . Thankyouu 🙂

I know this post is older, but I just bought this foundation and I quite like it so far. Maybelline stopped making the Pure makeup which I used for years, so I got this to try since I hate heavy foundation. I have semi oily skin, and this keeps my face looking shine free for most of the work day (my nose eventually gets shiny, but no biggie). I don’t feel like I have a bunch of product on my face either, also a big plus!

I am 41 and seriously LOVE this stuff. I buy and try almost everything, and for some reason, I can’t let this one go! Looks great in pics, and I always get compliments. I do put moisturizer on first, Clinique moisture surge is my favorite…ever. Like you said, the wear is so so. But if Im going out, I redo my face. Otherwise, its enough coverage to get you through the day. Also, I prefer a make up with some yellow, and this delivers! I use shade 0 in the winter, and 2.5 in the summer.
