bareMinerals Radiance Rocks Review and Swatches

Some makeup is so terribly pretty. Gorgeous packaging, delicious colors……but just because it’s pretty doesn’t always mean it’s great.

And so goes the case with the brand new bareMinerals Radiance Rocks Set that I recently purchased from Sephora.

Oh woe is me why can’t I love it?

Take the jump for the review and the cries of nay!

The Muse made absolutely certain she was one of the first people to have a set of bareMinerals Radiance Rocks tucked securely in her cart when she first seen them pop up on Sephora. Honestly, who wouldn’t want these incredibly gorgeous little gems of color? Housed in a metallic fuchsia jar with a screw top jar and laid out on a velvet bed with separators for each rock surely these resembled an awesome piece of jewelry.

The Muse honestly couldn’t help but jump around in giddy delight when she got them in the mail. The picture is gorgeous but seeing them up close and personal should really delight the makeup junkie in us all.

The kit includes three Radiance Rocks which can be used on eyes, cheeks, or body. They glisten ever so slightly and aren’t sparkly or shimmery but are very smooth almost pearl-like. Also included with the purchase is a baby kabuki brush for application. The idea is to swirl the brush on all the rocks and buff the color onto your skin. You can use all three shades or just one at a time if you so please.

I absolutely adored the refreshing cool tingle of the rocks and the interesting colors included. You get a Bronze, Champagne, and a Warm Rose Radiance Rock. Each shade is a mix of warm versus cool. The contract compliments each shade beautifully. Do take note that the cooling sensation is only felt if you actually pick the rocks up as this won’t translate to the brush at all.

Now I shouldn’t be too disappointed as the promise of the rocks is a sheer wash of color. They aren’t promising me pigmented color but merely luminous color. Honestly, what you get is zero color. Each rock is super smooth feeling and very cool to the touch. Quite delightful really but one stroke with your brush, a second stroke, even a third and a fourth with a heavy hand yields little to no color. I could barely highlight my cheek bones with the color and in order to get swatches I literally had to stroke each rock on my wrist and at the very least this displays a bit of color.

Overall, the interesting concept and design thrills me, I love the cooling sensation, the packaging is stunning, and I think the kit on a whole for $35 including brush is a rather great deal. However, none of these things make up for the fact that bareMinerals Radiance Rocks yield little to no color which makes them a vast disappointment for me.

I do look forward to seeing where bareMinerals goes with this as they are known for riding with an idea. I have high hopes that if they do continue on with this and release newer shades and combinations that the pigmentation will develop a bit better.

For now, I’m left feeling a bit empty.

No likey, needs alot of work to change this Muse’s mind.

Anyone try these yet?

Love ’em?

Leaves ’em?

    Hey there Muse!

I musta missed your migration to WordPress: I wondered why I hadn’t got any Musings post updates on my Reader for the past few days. I decided to drop by your site and saw 3 pages of posts I’ve missed! I’m busy catching up on everything and gorging on Muse posts.

What a shame the Radiance rocks didn’t work out. They’re exactly the kind of cute looking things that I’d impulse buy just on the sheer gorgeousness of them.
