Clinique Superbalanced Powder Makeup Review

My mum’s Italian so grating cheese is some kind of art form at her house. Indeed, anything that has to do with cheese, sauce, garlic, and pasta is quite like the Mona Lisa.

Since I’m such a professional in the cheese grating department, thanks mum, it wasn’t any surprise I quickly adapted to using the new Clinique Superbalanced Powder Makeup.

Housed in a super size compact this powder is sure to please the techy lot of us all. This Muse happens to adore anything having to do with gadgetry and Clinique brings it. The powder is actually a press formula laid into the bottom well of a compact. Placed on top is a grinder which allows you to twist and “grate” or “grind” freshly shaven mineral powder. Cool right? Seriously how techy can you get people, loves it! The dial is nifty as it keeps the powder fresh and allows complete portion control. Dial up alot or a little powder depending on your needs.

The formula is supposedly made for all skin types but this could prove a bit much for my overly dry skin come Winter as it’s pretty heavy mineral wear. It wears well on my pore-less, currently combination skin. It applies and blends nicely although it comes with a brush to do this I didn’t really dig on the brush as it felt scratchy on my skin. Application with a large fluff brush or a kabuki is recommended as I found it evens out coverage and applies more precisely compared to the one the powder comes with.

I was reading a few reviews that said coverage is sheer and of course the product itself is advertised as moderate pigmentation. Taking this into consideration I was ever so slightly shocked as I thought it was pretty heavily pigmented and would offer sheer to medium or even heavier coverage depending on application. Of course, I did take note that using a heavier hand creates a cakey, mask-like look, not pretty. Sheer to medium coverage combats oily, shiny areas well and it wears long although not eight hours as advertised. I’d say after 5 hours or so I need a touch up. The formula didn’t leave me itchy so I assume it doesn’t contain talc which is always a good thing.

One important fact is to do be careful when “grating”. I got a little grate happy and proceeded to shave off a bit too much powder. Try to refrain from twisting the dial a few hundred times just because….it’s so not a good idea. One half turn should give you plenty of product to work with and one full turn could possibly over do it…remember kids, a little goes a long way.

The formula does contain an SPF 15 with 3:1 UVB/UVA protection. According to Clinique this is actually the suitable amount of sun screen needed to for skin. But, if you know the Muse, you know she prefers her sun screen a bit higher up there.

Overall, if you’re a big fan of powder or mineral makeup this should appeal big time. As for me it was a bit too heavy feeling on my face. I love the packaging, liked that it evened out my skin tone nicely, however the powder itself felt a bit to rich for me. I’m more of a cream, liquid foundation user so it’s likely I’ll never adjust to powder foundation or minerals in any form. Testing this out was interesting but I probably won’t indulge again once I run out.

I’d recommend it for those who simply adore powder or mineral foundation as it’s formula could appeal especially as it does a very good job keeping evil oily skin at bay.
