MAC Zoom Fast Black Lash Mascara Review

MAC you excel at so many things but why do you continue to fail in the mascara world. The Muse hasn’t yet met a mascara from MAC that she actually liked.

MAC Zoom Fast Black Lash Mascara 1

Ugh.

Your new MAC Zoom Fast Black Lash Mascara has one incredible factor about it but it doesn’t make up for the other woes it causes.

Jump ahead for my take.

MAC Zoom Fast Black Lash Mascara hit your MAC counter yesterday. Did you haul it? Are you a lover or hater of MAC Mascara?

The Muse?

She happens to hate MAC mascara. She never successfully got on board with their mascara sadly and MAC Zoom Fast Black Lash Mascara was something I was tickled about but after trying just shrugged and said to myself, “figures!”

The deets are these…

This is a richly pigmented, deep black mascara to create dramatic lashes. Guess what? Total success on pigmentation. Truly it is the richest, deepest, pigmented shade of black it promises. The formula is quite pigmented and has a very rich black base which creates very dramatic results on your lashes. Pairing this up with smoky eyes is all kinds of hotness.

The problem?

Dunno. Could be the formula, could be the applicator. Fact is it makes a crazy web of clumpy lashes aka a big hot mess. I can’t believe how exceedingly well it performs in the pigmentation performance but this doesn’t make up for the fact it under performs in the actual application department. The formula seems quite gooey and sticky plus the brush is a straight line which I always find a tad boring. I do like a bit of bells and whistles when it comes to my wands. A curve, fatter bristles, something, anything, but just don’t leave me with a straight line applicator. I tried curling my lashes prior to use and basically it makes my lashes into a sticky web. I also tested out without curling and still the same results.

MAC Zoom Fast Black Lash Mascara 2

Fact of the matter is I’m saddened it failed to work. It’s fulfills my need for a super black mascara but the formula just doesn’t live up to my expectations.

No likey.

Anyone try?

Share your woes or raves!

I agree, these stuff is gloppy and no good. I found it was good for applying to fake lashes, but other than that it’s definitely no Diorshow.

Muse, do you have a list of your all time fav products? If so, can you tell me how to find it on your site? I think that would be a super fabulous idea if you haven’t done it already.

Thanks for your wonderful blog (it makes me feel not alone in my obsession with all things cosmetics!).

gosh Andrea same here grossness. Were you impressed with the pigmentation? I thought that was really good. Oh gosh yes I do. Every year I do a year end post with favorites and I also I sometimes do little fav of the moment posts. Here’s a few:

      Fab Favs
This should have everything. It’s about two pages worth of goodies 😀 Although be warned they change often LOL!

Thank YOU for making it wonderful and taking time out to visit and say hi etc….:-D

      Hehe you’re not alone, promise!

      Hugs!

    Thank you for review, Muse!
I don’t know why but I didn’t even want to try it. My boggest love is DiorShow 🙂
And after your review I won’t try it for sure:)
Ps. will link to your review

    • the Muse

      my pleasure marina 😀

Thanks for link back doll! I think you can safely skip…really wasn’t into it at all sadly!

Meh, and I was so tempted to try it because Temptalia gave it rave reviews. I have yet to find my HG mascara for my straight asian lashes 🙁 they’re not short, but they are stick straight…and I am hopeless with a curler. The closest I’ve ever got to HG was Estee Lauder’s More than Mascara, pity it stings my eyes. Bah.
Word of warning, NEVER EVER buy the mascara from The Body Shop, it stays sticky….all day!Clinique’s High Impact Mascara is a no go too as it flakes 🙁

    • the Muse

oh shoot really? I have to go ready her review as she knows her MAC! Maybe I’m just picky 😀 I hated it. Loved the pigmentation hated the formula. Made my lashes all gooky and stuck together. Not cool. You have try Majorca Majolica for your asian lashes. It’s perfect. Especially if you have typical stubbier asian lashes…it curls very well 😀 I tried one from TBS it’s a standard one was not bad was kinda shocked I liked it 😀 I’m kinda all about Asian mascaras and not so much US brands 😛

  • Mollie

The only MAC mascara I liked was Plush Lash. Even so, it isn’t good enough to shell out 14.50 for. I’m kinda not surprised that this one wasn’t so great! Come to think of it, I’m not sure I actually have a favorite mascara in the first place…

    • the Muse

I never really adored plush glass mollie. I kinda dig the price tag but the product itself wasn’t all that great. I have a few favs 😀

  • Kaoru

I hate clumping mascaras! Looks to me, from the close up of the wand, that it might be the wand’s fault this one clumps. That’s an awful lot of product in between those stubby bristles. Have you tried another wand? If it was just the standard pigmentation, I wouldn’t think it would be worth the effort, but it might be worth salvaging if it is indeed that pigmented (and not just “black “(read, dark gray)).

    • the Muse

      hey kaoru
mmmm tis not good at all. clumpy and wet. I didn’t try another wand as for me that’s a pain in the butt so I just tossed it aside for now 😛 It’s quite richly pigmented which I adored but the hassle of using another wand seems a pain ya know?

  • Regan

Okay i just got this mascara about an hour ago…
and well, i love it but it does clump as soon as you put it on. Hopefully I can try to manuver the wand differently next time to get a possible better result. Did that work for you.

    • the Muse

no such luck regan. I tossed it 😛 really didn’t work out at all no matter how I worked the wand 😀

  • Marina

I completly agree!!!!!!!! This is the worst I have ever had. I really like MAC, I am very surprised of the poor quality of this macara. The green and pink mascara from CG is much better then this!!!!

  • Sharan

Pick up a pack of disposable wands from a beauty supply store. It makes all the difference, and you’ll never use another mascara again. I promise!!

  • The Truth Fairy

If you don’t like straight brushes, you can always bend the wand yourself as you take it out of the tube, against the opening. You can also curve the brush by this same method. I do this all the time. And the bend/curve stays, too, even when you put the brush back in the tube.
