Tarte Dark Circle Defense Review and Swatches
Tarte Darck Circle Defense Concealer is getting an overwhelming amount of good reviews on Sephora and MUA. The Muse has been a busy bee flipping through each review as I’m trying to figure out why I’m not loving it as much as everyone else.
The Muse happens to be a tiny bit obsessed with concealers and finding the perfect one. When she heard about the new Tarte one she was quite on board to give it a whirl.
Available in merely two shades this concealer promises to battle dark circles, puffiness, and fine lines with a good for your formula that’s free of parabens.
Jump ahead to hear my thoughts on it.
In Tarte’s defense I will say I prefer my concealers lighter. A lighter concealer works best for my eyes and I like the way it brightens the eye area up, in turn making me look rested and awake. I normally buy a shade lighter than my natural skin tone in the concealer department and most artists will agree that purchasing a lighter shade is the best way to go when it comes to concealer.
Here in lays part of my problem with Tarte Dark Circle Defense Concealer. It’s terribly orange…..I’ve read many a review that says it adjusts as needed to your tone however it’s just a strange mix or orange for me even after blended out. Now this could be a good thing as the orange I speak of is actually a shade of salmon almost. Such a shade is ideal for concealing dark circles in a major way. However, salmon, orange shades like this do work incredibly well at concealing but not making me look refreshed or awake. If you happen to be younger and sporting a bad case of raccoon eyes I’d say this could probably work at concealing your woes. Me? I’m too old to appreciate it. My fine lines, dark circles, puffiness and just general tired looking eyes need a bit of a brighter concealer to make me look awake.
Now the formula is incredibly thick and creamy plus there is plenty pigment in here to cover it all up. I do have a problem with how thick it is because it actually ends up looking cakey almost clay like under my eyes. It settles into my fine lines as the day progresses in a unflattering way.
The concealer comes with a brush for application. This is always welcome as it evens out the price tag which is $32. This could prove a bit expensive for a concealer but if it works well I don’t mind dishing out for it. The brush is decent enough for application and as I said gives a little relief to the price tag.
Overall, it’s not for me sadly as my eyes are just too dry, too sleepy, and just too old to take full advantage. I’d probably recommend it for younger eyes as it’s heavy pigmentation seems likely to cover everything but for those who prefer their concealer a little lighter, a little brighter, this probably won’t be what you’re seeking.
Anyone try it yet?
