Urban Decay Smoke Out Kit Sweet Lucy Review and Swatches

The Muse is a little obsessed with boxes, draws, and little storage units to tuck makeup in. She blames it on her pack rat behavior and OCD nature. Of course this has to be the reason why the new Urban Decay Smoke Out Kits totally chuff her silly. It’s all about little draws, nooks, and crannies where eye shadow, mascara, eyeliner, and a little tutorial hangs out.

Click ahead to learn more about the Urban Decay Smoke Out Kit in Sweet Lucy.

Urban Decay Smoke Out Kits are part of the Holiday 2009 Collection. $34 bucks snags your four eye shadows, one liner, a mascara, and a tutorial for creating a single smoky look for your elegant evenings out this holiday.

These kits are made up of four tiers, three of which are makeup related and one being a full size swing out mirror. The first layer swings open to reveal a mirror which swivels completely around. Next layer contains four eye shadows, after this you’ll get a liner and a brush, and finally a mini Urban Decay Skyscraper Mascara. Towards the top of the entire affair is a little pull out draw which has a step by step tutorial for creating your look.

I tried out the color combo in Sweet Lucy which creates the classic smoky eye. Colors included are a shimmering pewter gray, a classic shimmery black, a matte nude beige, and a matte white. The basic look is created using the pewter gray on the lid and adding definition and contrast with the black while using the matte white as a highbrow highlighter. The nude beige slightly puzzled me but it’s suggested to use as a base somewhat from crease to highbrow. The overall look is a classic smoky eye. The colors are all easy to work with, pigmented, and blend smoothly. They aren’t the standard Urban Decay finish as they aren’t overloaded with glittery, shimmery bits but they are nice none the less. To complete the look you can line up with the 24/7 Eyeliner in Zero (black) and apply a few coats of the Urban Decay Skyscraper Mascara.

The tutorial included makes the whole process easy and painless. These are particularly great kits if you’re unsure how to create a smoky eye look. The instructions are very detailed but manage to remain simple and easy to use.

Overall, I absolutely adored the design of the palette. I like techy little gadgetry-like palettes like this as it’s unique and a bit different. The kit is handy for really quickie smoky eye looks on the fly plus they make a rather cute little gift for a friend. Now I want to pick up the green set….hmmmm!

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. Muse, why do you have to tempt us for much by your reviews, lol

btw. Why I don’t get your updates by RSS anymore? 🙁

    • the Muse

      hey Marina!!!!!

aw shucks thanks 😀 hehe I love to enable 😀

Hmmm is it installed on your site? The rss feed that is? Or via google reader? How do you get them? I’m subscribed via google reader and my old feed still comes through ok however if you have the rss feed on your blogger page that may have stopped working.

      LMK?

      Thanks!

  • Marina

    I use google reader.

oh, I just added musings one more time and it works now!!!! Now I am happy that musings are back now I’ll be sure to check all posts. : yeah:

    • the Muse

oh good! I was wondering what happened Marina 😀 can you tell me what feed you are using ? Does it say Musings of a Muse or Musings of a Muse Cosmetic Junkie…etc..after it?

      Thanks doll!

  • Mara

The colors are lovely but I’m not too crazy about the packaging. For a mere $14 more, I’d rather go for Book of Shadows II. Now that’sa steal.

    • the Muse

ah I understand Mara who can resist the massive book of shadows that’s incredibly gorgeous! Can’t wait to lay my hands on that bad boy!

  • can’taffordtobeamakeupjunkiebutistillam

    i totally agree with marina!

  • Lisha

Ah , the prettyness! What lipstick is that ??

I’ll be getting this for my little sister when I’m in Paris somewhere in october / november. She’ll love it. And I can borrow it once in a while =p

    • the Muse

oh gosh I can’t recall Lisha believe it was a mac plushglass but can’t recall the name at the moment.

hehe borrowing it is the best part 😀

  • PinkyKathy

This kit is so cool!! and you looks really good with this smokey eye items. ^__^

  • Del

That looks super sexy Muse! I like it, I like it. I would indulge but I’m anti-UD glitter as it always gets all over my face…perhaps I need to work on technique. =P

BTW, love the option of email notification for comments, cept I keep forgetting to click it…heheh

    • the Muse

aw thanks del you’re lovely! No I understand totally. I adore UD shadows but the glitter fall out drives me crazy. I find the best way to use ’em is with a paint pot as a base as it really does help with Fall out!

hehe it’s always helpful so you can follow the conversation 😀

  • Connie

you did great with the smokey eyes. looks gorgeous especially with that lip color 🙂

  • Swt Azn Qt

Is the white completely matte? If so, then how can I add some sparkles in the white eyeshadow to make it look shimmery? It would have been a lot better if the beige and the white was the other way around…lol…and I was actually expecting them that way too…=(

    • the Muse

hi swt yup it’s matte. Use a loose pigmented you have to add some shimmer? Hope this helps!

  • donna

i can’t believe these are now only $15! I’m totally picking up the one in Yerba. So glad you reviewed this because I was on the fence about it. Thanks girlie!
