Reader’s Request: Cle de Peau Beaute Concealer Review
The Muse apologies this review is a long time coming. Many of you asked and asked for a review of Cle de Peau Beaute Concealer but other things got ahead of me so I never did bring you that review.
I recently ran out of the concealer so the perfect opportunity arose to remind myself to get the review written and presented to my patient readers.
Jump ahead to read my take on Cle de Peau Beaute Concealer.
Cle de Peau Beaute Concealer is an absolute cult favorite and graces many a makeup junkie’s bag. The most common question to arise when discussing this particular concealer would be, “Is it worth the price?”
You know…it’s really difficult to say if it’s worth it or not. At $70 it’s actually not so much more than what I pay for my HG (holy grail) concealer palette from Bobbi Brown. I believe, when available, the BB palette sets me back $56 or $65. But for some reason or another I do so prefer Bobbi over Cle de Peau simply because I feel I’m getting alot more. I get three cream concealers plus a setting powder with that set where as this is one simple cream stick concealer. $70 for a stick concealer could be considered a bit too expensive a price to pay to conceal eyes and other skin woes. There in lays that question again though….”Is it worth it?”
No.
It’s not worth it.
It’s an incredible concealer but the raving that surrounds it makes it a bit over hyped. Do I buy it when I run low? How many times have I purchased it? Is it HG? Yes, I do purchase it when I run low. I’ve purchased it a total of three times since discovering it. No, for me, it’s not HG. Like most posh brand cosmetics I feel like I’m buying into the name rather than the product. The product itself is quality but for $70 I do wince each time I purchase one.
The perks of the concealer are it’s moisturizing, creamy formula which glides on beautifully and creates a good flawless canvas. It does have a certain airbrushed look when using it under your eyes. It’s smooth, it’s creamy, it doesn’t settle into fine lines, nor does it cake but it does not have long wear or at least in my experience it doesn’t. I get better wear from my Bobbi Brown concealer in my humble opinion. Yes, it’s pigmented but not so much it’s going to completely hide dark circles.
I fear this is turning into a ranty picky review when in fact I actually love the concealer. The problem for me is it’s a bit over hyped and does present itself, by makeup users, as the end all concealer as in I’ll never have to buy another concealer again after using this because it’s perfect in all ways. That’s just not the case for me. I continue to purchase Cle de Peau Concealer because I’m a bit of a concealer junkie and like to surround myself with a few options when covering up my under eye woes. Cle de Peau happens to be a favorite and falls into the lines of my daily prep however I do tend to reach for my BB palette alot more.
Overall, this concealer would be more of a winner if the formula wore a little longer and the price tag was a little less. $70 proves too much to spend for the average middle of the road makeup user I believe. The concealer used to have a little bit of a lower price tag but honestly not so much less than what it is now. The stick will last ages when used daily but still it fails to wow me and this can simply be chalked up as a product that’s just been too over hyped. It’s a case of the read the hype syndrome, get terribly excited about the concealer of all concealers, and proceed to be crushed when it doesn’t quite turn out as great as you though it was going to be.
Loving you Cle de Peau Concealer but not enough to forgive your price tag.
Feel free to share your joy or woes about this concealer.
Curious minds if you tried it and absolutely can’t live without it.
As for the Muse she can probably go on without it, her life won’t be over if she can’t buy it again.
