Shu Uemura Tsumori Chisato for Shu Uemura Planet Cat Palette Review, Photos, and First Impressions

I haven’t quite found it in my heart yet to dig into my Tsumori Chisato for Shu Uemura goodies but I thought you’d all appreciate a few babbles about the items and some photos.

There isn’t doubt in the Muse’s mind that the Tsumori Chisato for Shu Uemura has some incredible offerings particularly package wise. The packaging is sincerely adorable on each and every piece. The Planet Cat Palette is particularly kawaii featuring a silver glittery compact with a black cat who has one eye that’s a rhinestone.

In regards to design I’m very pleased with the palette however the contents aren’t as popular with me as the packaging. I love the blush as it’s a gorgeous shade of peachy glow goodness but please keep in mind I’m at the stage of just holding the palette close to my heart and haven’t yet swatched anything as of yet. The one thing that was slightly disappointing was the mismatch of colors in the shadows. It’s made up of a large portion of silver shadow, a smaller black shade which could be used for a liner, and a copper penny bronze also small in size.

Taking into consideration the black and silver I’d say you can get a lovely smoky eye look from the palette but I did find the coppery shade a tad strange. Also included are a creamy highlighter and a black gel liner. I admit I’m normally not particularly creative with combing colors and such but I will say that I thought the entire palette was a mix of colors that didn’t seem to go well together. It was almost as if they paired warm and cool tones in one palette. Interesting but I’d rather they focus on one idea or look.

At $65 it’s a little costly but if you’re a collector I imagine that could be consider chump change. I am glad I got the additional 20% Off via Sephora Friends and Family when hauling as it made the $65 seem a little lighter. It’s such a unique piece I didn’t mine the high cost and generally Shu is pretty expensive regardless. Still unsure if I’d recommend it as a haul or just a pretty little bauble to collect but I’m loving it none the less.

Anyone haul from Planet Cat?

What are your thoughts if you did or even if you didn’t?

That is a weird combination of colors. I love Shu Uemura but I don’t think I will be hauling anything from Tsumori Chisato line.

    • the Muse

jenn, agreed….I absolutely adore the palette but I really wanted one look. I love getting more from a palette and the idea of creating a number of looks always appeals but this is so mismatched I’d love loved a single look only.

  • su-pah

    Eeeek! I love it!

I just ebayed some Planet Cat stuff from my fave and trusted Shu seller – all the way in Taiwan, it costs less even including the shipping.
I chose the highlight powder and the Asia-exclusive lipstick in Venus Pink. Can’t wait till it gets here! xD

    • the Muse

fantastic su-pah! 😀 glad you got a deal hun! I REALLY wanted the Venus Pink 😀 I was debating on getting it from Japan or not 😀

  • Ally

I agree…a very random combination of colours..the cat freaks me out a little bit but otherwise the packaging is gorgeous.

I would never purchase because of the contents tbh. It would definitely make more sense if the colours could all work well together.

    • the Muse

I thought it was me Ally as I’m not too creative with combing colors..but it really is sort of mismatched right? The packaging thrilled me to bits and I think used separately each piece is lovely for different looks but I’d have loved it even more if it was one solid look I could create that was matched up a bit better 🙂

  • The Mighty J

I was completely ready to order it – then I saw it IRL and went “nah-h I am saving my money”. Its really overpriced for what it is even if its cute. Sorry that’s just my two cents , but I can see the appeal if one is a collector.

    • the Muse

hey j it is overpriced. I find Shu a bit on the expensive side at times. my collector size rejoices but my logical side says oh god that’s absurd 😀

  • britishbeautyblogger

Don’t think this is out yet in the UK but I am desperate for the cat item! It would go straight into my ‘never touch’ drawer and I’d just have to bring it out every now and again to stroke! Love innovations like this – wish we could see more x

    • the Muse

lol yup britishbeautyblogger I KNOW this feeling well and that’s exactly why I didn’t swatch or use…it goes RIGHT into the beauty vault 😀

    • the Muse

      hi von von 😀

cool! I’ll be putting up other pics of the collection shortly maybe it’ll help with your wishy list!

  • Karrie

I was hoping this year that Shu Uemura would put out a palette as nice as the Mika ones from last year.

And although this palette has awesome packaging, I too didn’t think the colors included made sense.

    I really liked your review!

    • the Muse

hi karrie the mika ones were golden 🙂 and although this is equally as nice packaging wise, it was the contents that kinda threw me a curve ball!

Thanks hun 🙂 glad you enjoyed it!

  • Kate

I had this in my cart at Sephora and even with the discount, couldn’t quite get myself to click that final “submit” button. (I think this would have been the most expensive palette I’d ever purchased). The next day it was out of stock and am I sorry now! I always want what I can’t have. They said more are on the way, but it sounds like it will be after the sale. Maybe it was a blessing in disguise?! 😀

    • the Muse

lol kate this happens to me alot. I keep saying no yes no yes and by the time I get around to it it’s OOS! Maybe you’ll get lucky as we still have until November 2nd right?

  • gio

The packaging looks gorgeous but the weird combination of colors dosn’t appeal to me at all.

    • the Muse

same palette as summer chloe? This is the same collection that Bella was talking about which released this Fall. Wasn’t a Summer Collection?

      Confused.

  • PinkyKathy

this palette is totally GORGEOUS. The color is very Japanese hehehehe. Can I ask where did you purchase this palette??

    • the Muse

isn’t it lovely Pinky? 😀 well shu is a japanese line 😀 hehe. I got mine at Sephora

    • the Muse

lol hells no ;-D this one be mine! Sometimes I like evil cat things too Rows 😀

  • Hazel

    Hi The Muse!
Thanks so much for the review. I’m considering this one too but now I am having a second thought from your good review. I actually like the inside of the other palette (planet ribbon) more but the case of this one is much more unique and cuter!

Have you seen the real life colors of the planet ribbon? Could you please give me an advice whether the planet ribbon has a better color combo? Thanks so much!

    • the Muse

hi hazel my pleasure. I agree the colors in planet ribbon are softer where as this packaging is sweeter 😀 I have indeed and I’ll do a review shortly/pics/etc….:-D Just give me time to take pictures and stuff. I do like Planet Cat a little better though 🙂

  • su-pah

    ohmaigoodness people!
i absolutely heart the colour combination. and besides, it’s very sci-fi spacey, keeping in theme with the rest of the campaign.
the only reason i never got this was because i’m not much of a palette person, i like my stuff individual and already had dupes, or else i’ve been drooling over this.
these kind of colours will be perfect alone or together.

    • the Muse

true true su-pah very sci-fi!!!!!!!!!!! 😀 I must say it seemed a tad mismatched for me but gorgeous none the less. I used to hate palettes but I’ve somehow grown to lurve 😀

  • gorge

hi there MUSE! i really want the cat palette but i like the contents of the ribbon palette more. DILEMMA!!! Prices here in the Philippines are so much higher, Php4,000 (approx. $85) so i really need to think about hauling those 2 palettes. I already have the lipstick in moon peach which is reasonably priced (and came in earlier @ the store) at Php1,450 (approx. $31). Thinking about getting venus pink. ^_~

    • the Muse

oh gorge I totally feel your pain! That’s insane prices! Yak! I loved both palettes and the highlighter ugh LOVE! but your prices are so expensive 🙁 It’s expensive here too but considerably less than $85 ouchie!

  • Kat

Hi there Muse! I really love reading your blog!
Recently my mom bought me the Tsumori Chisato Planet Cat duo highlighter. The packaging is very cute and so is the palette. It has two colors, pink and gold. Both are very light and sheer, it gives me a nice glow effect.

But it’s very expensive at 2,400 pesos (or $50) and after a week of using it I noticed zits on my chin and forehead. I’m still trying to figure out if this is the cause T_T

    • the Muse

hi kat! how are you? Thank you dear 🙂

oh my that is very expensive hun! Sheesh! It’s pretty expensive here as well 😛 Hmmmmmm stop using it for a little while and see if that clears up. Have you tried other products recently? new skincare? It’s possible something in the powder is causing a break out but I doubt it??? I haven’t experienced that!

Just stop using it a few days until your face clears up 🙂
