Benefit Ooh La Lift Review and Swatches

The Muse can’t live without some of Benefit’s key products such as Lemon Aid, Boi-ing, Powderflage, Etc….

Benefit Ooh La Lift 1

Funny thing as much as I love some of their base makeup items for some odd reason I never tried out Benefit Ooh La Lift. How strange! After a reader requested a review I decided I should really try it as it sounds like something I’d love.

Find out what I thought after the jump!

My idea of Benefit Ooh La Lift was that it would it be somewhat like Trish McEvoy Eye Base Essentials. I was thinking it would be a dense, slightly dry base which would prep and prime my eye area for makeup. It promises to work much as Benefit Lemon Aid plus it promises to lighten and brighten the eye area up. See how easily it is to get excited about this? I love the idea of anything that will work at creating a smoother canvas for makeup plus brighten the area up erasing signs of fatigue.

Benefit Ooh La Lift 2

Mmm doesn’t really work as well as I had hoped. I’m disappointed because as I mentioned I normally end up loving many of Benefit point items but this just fails to work for me. It’s a pale pink moisturizing cream, actually it kinda reminds me of Benefit Powderfladge in powder form.

Benefit Ooh La Lift 3

Benefit Ooh La Lift 4

The formula is one reason it doesn’t work so well. It’s moisturizing and very creamy but it lacks the pigmentation to work. The lack of pigmentation is one key reason I saw no results. Although quite a nice shade of pigment it doesn’t show up around the eye area. I also find the moisturizing formula a tad impractical since it’s a toss up between using this and concealer. Using this instead of concealer is not an option I can personally get away with and using this on top of concealer, if you attempt it, just creates a mess because of the wet, moisturizing formula.

Overall, it’s probably something that would be decent for younger eyes who don’t use concealer daily and just need a little pick me up for tired eyes. Personally I can’t say I’d recommend it for anyone who needs concealer to hide dark circles, fine lines, and just tiredness. This one was sadly a disappointment for me.

No likey.

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. I use this almost daily and sometimes I wear it over concealer but you do have to be very careful not to make a mess of your eye. I just kid of pat it on very lightly.

    • the Muse

hey caroline. I didn’t love it sadly and find it made a bit of mess when used with my concealer sigh 🙁 I’ll try patting and see if that helps 🙂

  • veedee

Thanks for this review and past reviews on Benefit products! I haven’t tried any Benefit products but received a gift certificate and have been researching on what I can get!

    • the Muse

oh veedee there are some great benefit products to be had, my pleasure 😀 Have a look through by clicking here.

      Hope it helps!

  • Nia

This thing is not working for me, not at all. No colour or anything, no lightening, zero.

If you are looking for a base for your concealer, give Clarins Eye Revive Beauty Flash a try. I bought it a while ago and so far it makes my concealer crease a lot less. So far I like it 🙂

    • the Muse

same problem nia 😛 Nothing. It might work for younger eyes, teens maybe? But nothing for me. I actually have this and like it alot, clarins is awesome 😀

      • Nia

*lol* I was young when I tried it 😉 I think it is just made for the occasional use, nobody with real circles.
And yeah, Clarins is pretty awesome. Should’ve known you already tried the Beauty Flash 😉

        • the Muse

agreed Nia and not even good for occasional uses 😛

haha I’m a clarins fan since last year, love the line!

  • robyn

i was given their concealor kit thing a few years back (i forget the name of it ) and this stuff is still in my drawer i never worked out how/why to use it

i have really bad dark circles and i really didnt see how this stuff helped

    • the Muse

robyn same here kinda a toss in the draw and never use…just didn’t work at all for me. I guess we just have really bad eye stuff going on to appreciate it!

I remember getting this when I bought the real of concealness box, trying it, and realizing it was just meh. It didn’t do much for my tired eyes. Thank goodness Benefit has Eye Bright and Lyin Eyes. Admittedly, I have since traded in Eye Bright and Lyin eyes for Erase Paste to keep me looking awake lol.

    • the Muse

another meh mc glad I’m not the only one around! Eye Bright is great! I’m not keen on erase paste, a little too thick for me!

  • Ashley

I’ve been planning on getting this for over 2 years but I’m always stripped for cash! I’m only 18 & all I ever have is tired, somewhat puffy eyes so this might work for me. Except I always ready reviews on how terrible Benefit products are & it discourages me from trying their products 🙁

    • the Muse

it might work well for you ashley as you aren’t suffering some of the woes an older girl would be. 🙂 really? I’ve found some staple products from Benefit! I can’t live without Lemon Aid, Hello Flawless, Etc 🙂

  • jojo

I agree on this one, it has no effect on me. I do love some Benefit products to death though like the Dallas and Dandelion powders, High Beam, Eyecon are a few of them. I was surprised how useless the Ooh-la lift was compared to other great products they have in the line.

    • the Muse

kinda a disappointment JoJo 🙁 I have some incredible HG’s from Benefit but this wasn’t so fab, count me surprised too as normally they make great base items that work wonders!

  • Meredith

I have this one too, and was really disappointed in it. The Eyebright pencil does the job so much better. Did you grab the Eyebright/Bo-ing compact they had for $9 at Sephora recently? OMG. Best. Ever.

    • the Muse

what where how who meredith tell me MORE!!!!!!! I didn’t see it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-D! I like bo-ing but I noticed as I got older it started creasing bad 🙁

it used to be my HG!

  • Meredith

It was this little special compact that they had at the front counter as a special beauty buy, I think. I adore it – I have never seen EyeBright in a compact and it’s actually quite handy! I’ll have to take a picture of it and Twitter it!

    • the Muse

hey meredith oh yes please do sounds like something I’d love :-D!!!!!! sorry for the delayed reply hun!

  • Emilie

I find this stuff works by mixing it in with my concealer! I use MAC Pro Longwear concealer and just mix a bit of this in with it and it makes it ever so slightly brighter! I don’t have terrible dark circles though, but I do like what it does to my under eyes 🙂

  • Michelle Luna

I like to wear practically zero makeup (mascara, that’s it these days) and I find this gives me just enough brightening to be noticeable (to my eagle eye) but not so noticeable that anyone would ever guess I have product on my face. I like it for my upper eye area, especially the part under my inner brow/leading to the bridge of my nose, I think my eye sockets are somewhat deeper there and using actual concealers makes it WAY too obvious that I put something there. I’ve had my tube for like, FOREVER (I refuse to believe in expiration dates, as long as something doesn’t stink or sting, I consider it good) and have only just in the last year started to appreciate its subtle help to my aging eye sockets, as in my 20s I was all about heavier makeup looks and more obvious product and using concealers (now I just want to slap some flax seed oil on my cheeks – if I even bother washing my face – and go cause I just feel too old and busy to fuss with covering my rosacea).
TL; DR – I’m the freak who likes it

    • Isabella Muse

Hey if it works for you that’s all that matters 🙂
