Maybelline Dream Mousse Concealer Review and Swatches

So you know how I’m always on the quest for the perfect concealer?   I do tend to get all Indiana Jone-like when it comes to locating concealer.  By now I’ve tried hundreds……What?  Some people love eyeshadow, some gloss, and me, I just happen to be passionate about concealer.

Maybelline Dream Mousse Concealer 1

Get this, good times, I discovered Maybelline Dream Mousse Concealer this weekend and I likey.  I know right?  That’s so saying something considering I wouldn’t trust the drugstore with something as important as concealer.  But indeed its heck of a good stuff.

Jump for the review.

I kinda dig on Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse Foundation, I mean it’s not OMG incredible but it is decent so I was ever so willing to indulge in the new Maybelline Dream Mousse Concealer.

Maybelline Dream Mousse Concealer 2

Honestly, I didn’t expect alot. I’ve tried drugstore concealer here and there and I’ve always been far, far, far from impressed. But Dream Mousse Concealer is the real deal, very good stuff, count the Muse oh so impressed.

So basically it’s about the same texture as the foundation. It’s a fluffy whipped affair that’s feels super smooth and creamy but also sports a slightly silicon-feel. It could prove a bit too much for some because it’s honestly a very rich formula that’s heavily pigmented. For me? It’s a love. You have to be uber extra careful when you apply and just use a tiny bit as too much could make you look scary as all hells. A tiny dab should cover your entire eye area up very nicely as it’s pigmented enough to work magic on fine lines, dark circles, etc……I was worried it would crease and cake since the formula is quite rich but thankfully not it wears quite well throughout the day minus creasing.

Maybelline Dream Mousse Concealer 4

The danger is there and you can easily go overboard with it and end up very disappointed so remember just a tiny dab for each eye will get you really great coverage. It blends very well and conceals all my problem areas perfectly.

Overall, you can count me impressed. I need to use it a few more days before deciding but I’m leaning towards adding this one to my HG (holy grail) collection of concealers. It’s smooth, it’s creamy, it’s crazy pigmented, and it makes this Muse all fresh and awake looking. I’m thinking this one deserves a great big Muse Approval!

Loves it!

Worthy of a haul in my humblest especially if you’re suffering from tired looking eyes. I got mine at Target for $6 bucks and some change.

Anyone try?

Dying to hear what you think!

thanks for the review! I myself am either into Benefit Erase Paste or Clinique All About Eyes (covered with a good dusting of Powderflage, of course) but this would be worth a try when I want to give my wallet a budget rest

hey misstat!

Not much for Erase Paste myself but love Benefit Boi-ing :-D which all about the eyes are you using? Was that the click pen? I like that one myself :)

Loved Dream Matte Mousse Foundation myself but it rubbed off like crazy. I really want to try/love the concealer!

hey marsadie!

I only use it on off days when I’m running around for this and that otherwise it’s def not an HG foundation for me :P I really like the concealer, count me impressed, that’s saying something as drugstore concealer + the muse=FAIL!

MissTat November 17, 2009 at 3:28 pm

well it’s not a click pen. hmm… ok. It’s a tube-y thing. Kinda like TFSI? It covers well , and it’s very creamy but sometimes it settles into the tiny little lines I obsess about (I’m only 23, so they’re probably not as bad as I think they are lol) so, not HG at least just yet

Oh, I do love your concealer posts. I think after reading this, this concealer jumped the queue. Especially after my not so successful first test with the Clinique All About Eyes concealer….
Thanks :)

Cool I wanna try this! I’ve always had a soft spot for Maybelline out of all d/s brands especially their mousse products. Could use a good concealer for me undereyes!

Thanks for the review Muse! It’s funny how your thing is concealers when, well from what I can tell from your pictures, you don’t look like you have anythign to cover up! I, myself am always on the hunt for the perfect concealer as well as foundation. Nothing ever lasts well on my uber oily skin :(
BTW, what are your top fav concealers? ^^

Reply

the Muse November 18, 2009 at 3:19 pm

You are TOO kind Betty :-D I cover it well LOL!

My favs are the Bobbi Brown Concealer Palette, Mally Concealer System, Shills Electric Eye, Kevin Beautymaker Concealer, and this could slide into number five!

I have reviews up for most of this stuff if you need ‘em!

How about you?

Fav 5?

hi muse :D
is this good for concealed blemishes and acne scars? :D
i saw this at walmart yesterday and i wanted to buy it but i wasn’t sure.
:D

the Muse November 18, 2009 at 1:10 pm

im not sure rachel. I honestly don’t conceal my pimples and stuff with concealer. I do worry this may be a bit much for the face as it’s so pigmented but you never know, it might work a treat, so far it’s acted as my under eye concealer only and that’s been a fab-o experience hun!

I loved Maybellines Dream Liquid Foundation and I thought I would feel the same about the concealer. I’ve bought and used the concealer and I hate it. It makes my undereyes area look extremely dry and when I smile it really creases my undereyes like crazy. Oh well.

(Hey, my site is also running on the Thesis Theme ^_^)

Oh, thanks for the hint. You get the YSL recommended a lot in shops. As soon as you ask for a concealer, they give you the Touche Eclat. Will look for the review.
Have a good weekend! :)

I heard bad things about the foundation though. like it cakes or something.
Is this better than the foundation?

Reply

the Muse November 30, 2009 at 3:31 pm

Hey Mandy I’ve heard that it stinks too, the foundation that is, but I kinda like it :) I really liked the concealer, it’s turning into HG for me :)

I have two “wrinkles” under my eyes. One under each eye, that I’ve had since I was really young. They are pretty deep and I was wondering if this would crease on me.

Reply

the Muse February 3, 2010 at 8:48 pm

hi hailey it doesn’t crease on me but it all depends. depends how dry your skin is, how much prepping you do before using, etc..I can’t really say if it will or won’t crease on you as results will vary from skin type to skin type. I can’t say how it would react on two wrinkles? I have fine lines and didn’t experience creasing but my eyes are well hydrated so that helps.

Hope this helps?!

I myself suffer from very dark undereye circles…its herditary :( ..And when i say very dark i mean…VERY DARK all around my eyes..its pretty scary..neway, i have been looking for a good concealer that gives me great and full coverage without having to spend $30…ive tried…maybelline mineral power..covergirl invisible..covergirl trublend..covergirl concealer stick…neutrogena sheer cover kit..hardcandy pallette etc….the neutrogena and mineral power ones were good…but they never gave me the kinda coverage i needed. Today i bought the dream matte mousse concealer and OMG….I HAVE NEVER BEEN SO EXCITED ABOUT MAKEUP!….as soon as i put it on my mouth dropped. i could not believe how well the coverage was and easily it blended into my skin. i HIGHLY recommend this product..i almost started crying of how good it worked.

After Lancome’s Photogenic concealer went into oblivion (along with Prescriptive’s Flawless Skin concealer), I thought I was doomed…I tried Giorgio Armani’s new concealer, one by NARS, and none of those seemed to be right!! Very annoying. I was in the drugstore picking up some necessities, and thought I would just *try* the Dream Concealer…and it’s literally amazing!! Dare I say it might even be better than the Photogenic…and the Flawless Skin…it goes on so smoothly and almost disappears!! I’m in love!!!

the Muse March 11, 2010 at 4:07 pm

yay elise :D so glad you discovered this! Must agree it’s incredible, truly a great concealer and very much better than both photogenic and flawless skin :)

Yes, we have it, so I hope it will arrive soon ;)
Otherwise I will test the YSL Touche Eclat, but it will be a pricey test.

the Muse November 20, 2009 at 12:57 pm

oh nia don’t get the YSL if you can get the dior pen much better! I have a comparison review up around here somewhere! yay I hope you see it too dear!
