Maybelline Dream Mousse Concealer Review and Swatches

by the Muse on November 17, 2009

So you know how I’m always on the quest for the perfect concealer?   I do tend to get all Indiana Jone-like when it comes to locating concealer.  By now I’ve tried hundreds……What?  Some people love eyeshadow, some gloss, and me, I just happen to be passionate about concealer.

Maybelline Dream Mousse Concealer 1

Get this, good times, I discovered Maybelline Dream Mousse Concealer this weekend and I likey.  I know right?  That’s so saying something considering I wouldn’t trust the drugstore with something as important as concealer.  But indeed its heck of a good stuff.

Jump for the review.

I kinda dig on Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse Foundation, I mean it’s not OMG incredible but it is decent so I was ever so willing to indulge in the new Maybelline Dream Mousse Concealer.

Maybelline Dream Mousse Concealer 2

Honestly, I didn’t expect alot. I’ve tried drugstore concealer here and there and I’ve always been far, far, far from impressed. But Dream Mousse Concealer is the real deal, very good stuff, count the Muse oh so impressed.

So basically it’s about the same texture as the foundation. It’s a fluffy whipped affair that’s feels super smooth and creamy but also sports a slightly silicon-feel. It could prove a bit too much for some because it’s honestly a very rich formula that’s heavily pigmented. For me? It’s a love. You have to be uber extra careful when you apply and just use a tiny bit as too much could make you look scary as all hells. A tiny dab should cover your entire eye area up very nicely as it’s pigmented enough to work magic on fine lines, dark circles, etc……I was worried it would crease and cake since the formula is quite rich but thankfully not it wears quite well throughout the day minus creasing.

Maybelline Dream Mousse Concealer 4

The danger is there and you can easily go overboard with it and end up very disappointed so remember just a tiny dab for each eye will get you really great coverage. It blends very well and conceals all my problem areas perfectly.

Overall, you can count me impressed. I need to use it a few more days before deciding but I’m leaning towards adding this one to my HG (holy grail) collection of concealers. It’s smooth, it’s creamy, it’s crazy pigmented, and it makes this Muse all fresh and awake looking. I’m thinking this one deserves a great big Muse Approval!

Loves it!

Worthy of a haul in my humblest especially if you’re suffering from tired looking eyes. I got mine at Target for $6 bucks and some change.

Anyone try?

Dying to hear what you think!

thanks for the review! I myself am either into Benefit Erase Paste or Clinique All About Eyes (covered with a good dusting of Powderflage, of course) but this would be worth a try when I want to give my wallet a budget rest

      hey marsadie!

I only use it on off days when I’m running around for this and that otherwise it’s def not an HG foundation for me :P I really like the concealer, count me impressed, that’s saying something as drugstore concealer + the muse=FAIL!

  • 11/17/09 15:28 MissTat:

well it’s not a click pen. hmm… ok. It’s a tube-y thing. Kinda like TFSI? It covers well , and it’s very creamy but sometimes it settles into the tiny little lines I obsess about (I’m only 23, so they’re probably not as bad as I think they are lol) so, not HG at least just yet

I’m so surprised to hear that this concealer is decent. I tried the Dream Matte Mousse foundation a few years ago, thinking its dry touch silicone formula would be all kinds of lovely for my oily skin but recoiled in horror when I looked in the mirror and found that my skin looked like a dry scaly mess! It made my skin look patchy and in daylight my cheek looked like the surface of snakeskin.

Obviously if it’s Muse-approved I’m going to have to take a closer look to satisfy my curiosity.

Thanks for the review Muse! It’s funny how your thing is concealers when, well from what I can tell from your pictures, you don’t look like you have anythign to cover up! I, myself am always on the hunt for the perfect concealer as well as foundation. Nothing ever lasts well on my uber oily skin :(
BTW, what are your top fav concealers? ^^

im not sure rachel. I honestly don’t conceal my pimples and stuff with concealer. I do worry this may be a bit much for the face as it’s so pigmented but you never know, it might work a treat, so far it’s acted as my under eye concealer only and that’s been a fab-o experience hun!

I loved Maybellines Dream Liquid Foundation and I thought I would feel the same about the concealer. I’ve bought and used the concealer and I hate it. It makes my undereyes area look extremely dry and when I smile it really creases my undereyes like crazy. Oh well.

I have two “wrinkles” under my eyes. One under each eye, that I’ve had since I was really young. They are pretty deep and I was wondering if this would crease on me.

    Reply

    • 2/3/10 20:48 the Muse:

hi hailey it doesn’t crease on me but it all depends. depends how dry your skin is, how much prepping you do before using, etc..I can’t really say if it will or won’t crease on you as results will vary from skin type to skin type. I can’t say how it would react on two wrinkles? I have fine lines and didn’t experience creasing but my eyes are well hydrated so that helps.

      Hope this helps?!

Today i bought the dream matte mousse concealer and OMG….I HAVE NEVER BEEN SO EXCITED ABOUT MAKEUP!….as soon as i put it on my mouth dropped. i could not believe how well the coverage was and easily it blended into my skin. i HIGHLY recommend this product..i almost started crying of how good it worked.

After Lancome’s Photogenic concealer went into oblivion (along with Prescriptive’s Flawless Skin concealer), I thought I was doomed…I tried Giorgio Armani’s new concealer, one by NARS, and none of those seemed to be right!! Very annoying. I was in the drugstore picking up some necessities, and thought I would just *try* the Dream Concealer…and it’s literally amazing!! Dare I say it might even be better than the Photogenic…and the Flawless Skin…it goes on so smoothly and almost disappears!! I’m in love!!!

I can’t thank you enough for recommending this! It’s not quite THE holy grail of concealers, but I suffer from a lot of the same under-eye concerns as you, and for the price this is so much more than I expected! Definitely brightens the whole eye area and resists creasing better than a lot of the others I have tried. I’m still searching avidly for an affordable concealer that covers prominent dark circles and doesn’t crease every time I crack a smile, but this is a good alternative for now!

julia not sure as I rarely use concealer to cover up zits, blemishes. You might want something that’s liquid to do that as this is a creamy mousse and might sit weirdly on skin but not sure hun. I’m one for letting spots breath and not concealing them with concealer and such :D

Hi Muse! Since you seem to be such a concealer expert :) I thought I’d ask you a question about them. I have dark circles and so I am always looking for a good concealer to cover them with. However, I find that the ones that are well pigmented and cover well usually end up creasing into my “fine lines” (I’m early 20s so can’t see the lines without concealer). I use lotion, then eye cream, then a silicon based primer, blend my concealer out, and then set it with a silicon powder as well but I still seem to have this issue. Don’t know if you can offer any advice but I would really appreciate any input on the subject. Thanks so much!

      hi ally.

maybe skip the primer and the setting powder…..seems like you go alot going on. trying applying after you’ve prepped with eye cream (let it dry) and blend out minus the primer and powder after.

      Hope this helps :)

I’m a teen girl who’s trying to find cosmetics that don’t make me look all gross and aged, and originally, I thought this would be chalky and matte, but when I put it on, it looked AMAZING and my eyes never ever look sleepy, even after an all-nighter.

P.S. Muse, I love your blog, you’ve pretty much showed me what’s what about cosmetics.

Well Muse, you were so very right about this concealer! It works like a freakin dream for me! I’m amazed that a product I bought for 6 bucks works this well to cover up all the redness going on for my skin.

And the staying power? It was awesome. I bought this and the dream matte powder and used the two together and my skin looked better than it has a such a long time. I even went out to a festival all day long in 90 degree, so humid weather and this stuff didn’t budge. And my skin that is normally so oily by the end of the day was still matte as could be. No touch ups needed!

I was so ready to hate this concealer, because I had tried the dream mousse foundation last summer and my face looked like a slip & slide within an hour. But this concealer is amazing! Thank you so much for the recommendation, with out you I never would have thought of purchasing this!
