Musings of the Day: The Building Up of the Immune System

musings

I can’t be alone here. Do you ever come across an incredible skincare, a foundation, or anything really…and after a year or so of use, suddenly, you become immune to it?

The foundation that made your skin flawless isn’t really doing the job anymore, or that concealer that hid everything isn’t really covering much at all, or how about that incredible moisturizer that soothed your dry skin which suddenly fails to hydrate your skin.

GASP!

Why?

Jump to Muse about your immunities!

Technically your makeup or skincare probably hasn’t stopped working but the way you’re seeing the product may likely not match up with the way you seen it a few months ago or even a year ago. Plenty of things factor into this equation including a change of season when a moisturizer that worked like a dream before may be too strong for the here and now or perhaps you’re getting older and that concealer that worked wonders on your eyes just isn’t doing the job anymore.

Could be anything really but for the most part it’s in your minds eye and your imagination is probably factoring in most of the time. Personally this has happened to me alot. I’ve fell in and out of love with products after years of use and suddenly felt like they weren’t performing as well as they used to.

Let’s see…..a few products that have I’ve become “immune” too after years of use would be the Morgen Shick Hide and Highlight Palette (total holy grail but doesn’t quite work the way it used to for providing me with flawless skin), Benefit Boi-ing (creases badly where as before it was absolutely incredible coverage), and Lush Skin Shangri La (used to hydrate my terribly dry skin but now it’s just a bit too rich and makes my face feel a bit greasy). I’m positive I have a slew of others but I do feel like my skin builds up some kind of immunity to certain skincare and makeup items as I use them daily.

For the most part it’s probably changes in my skin or the weather or possibly the formula of the product has changed but all in all it’s a great excuse to find a new holy grail product although sometimes ever so devastating when something I loved in the past is failing to do the amazing job it once did.

How about you?

Are you “immune” to certain products after a while?

Any you loved that just aren’t working the way they used to?

Muse ’em!

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. yes, this happens to me, especially with skincare.
BUT, there are some products that 2+ years running still work amazingly. Clarins Eclat-Minute complexion stuff, Diorshow Blackout mascara (still wows me) and a couple of BeneFit Boi-ing concealor. I have a bad case of greasy creasy lids but because I only wear it under the eye, it’s not done any creasing or settling into fine lines.

hey su-pah! Ditto!!!!!!!!!!!! 😀 damn wish I can use Boi-Ing still but it’s a little too much for me 😛 it creases bad, old age setting in LOL!

i find i change my mind about foundations quickly, usually they’ll seem amazing at first but then a few weeks later i’ll notice things like oxidization, or cakey-ness. Not sure why…maybe I just am too excited with a new foundation to notice minor imperfections til later. Still haven’t found the perfect foundation or tinted moisturizer!

this is currently happening to me kira with my bobbi brown concealer palette, it’s devastating. Not greasy but not offering the coverage it once did. sob!

I’m immune to all the waxy drugstore lip balms that everyone uses in sweden in wintertime. Only fatbalm works for me nowadays!
