NARS The Multiple Review

NARS The Multiply Orgasm 1

The Muse has decided she needs to be educated and you, as a reader of her crazy babbling, need to do the educating. With all the hype that surrounds NARS The Multiple I decided it was time to try it for myself. Indeed, you read that correctly, I have never tried these. I really like NARS in general but I’m not too big a fan of cream blushes so The Multiple never tickled me as something I absolutely had to have otherwise my sky would come crashing down upon me. That feeling has been known to come upon me from time to time in regards to makeup.

Moral of the story is during Sephora Friends and Family I decided well wow here’s a good excuse to indulge.

Take the jump to hear my thoughts.

Here’s the part where I need a little help and education on the topic of “The Multiple”. What’s the big deal? What’s so great about it? Why so much hype and excitement? I honestly didn’t find anything that great about it after use.

Here’s the deal.

I love NARS Blushes and they are $25 bucks a pop for 0.16oz of blush and the NARS Multiple is $37 for 0.50oz. So for some odd reason I feel like the powder will last me much longer than the stick. After two uses already the stick is kinda reaching a quarter way down the tube.

Now the formula is nice…it’s pigmented, blends beautifully well, etc…however it’s not exactly long wearing and all that “multiple” stuff just isn’t happen. I got mine in the shade Orgasm which is my fav but Orgasm in my humblest should be directed at cheeks, just doesn’t work so fab on lips and eyes in cream form. I will say the color is absolutely stunning once applied and even more vibrant and beautiful than the powder form, almost Super Orgasm-like in color, but I just wish it sported a longer wearing formula, it literally melts away within an hour or less.

My main beef is it’s $37 bucks and even after my 20% discount I still felt like I was getting a better deal if I indulged in a powder blush from NARS. I’m thinking all my ranting stems from how much I dislike cream blushes but if I’m honest and step away from my cream blush hating, I’d say the formula wasn’t anything to get too hyped over especially not as hyped as some people make this out to be. I mean this tops many an HG (holy grail) list, just not mine.

NARS The Multiply Orgasm 2

NARS The Multiply Orgasm 3

NARS The Multiple, no likey. I’m sticking with NARS Powder Blushes.

Feel free to babble it and change my mind.

amen Suzanne sorely tempted to return but feel bad since I swiped it twice already!

      • madelene

hi would you consider selling it to me?? i live in sweden and it is difficul to get the nars item for a reasonalble price.

  • Mae

I hauled the three piece Mutiple kit from Sephora FF. It has Orgasm, Copocabana, and South Beach. I actually like it a lot. Copocabana is a nice dewy highlighter and it also makes a good eyeshadow. Orgasm is a little pale for my liking but I’ve found use for it. South Beach is the one I didn’t think I’d like because I thought it’d be a muddy bronze on me. Nah. It’s a nice peach. I love the kit of mini Multiples! Don’t know if I’d buy any of em again though save for Copacabana or another pale highlight shade.

    • the Muse

oh mae that set is way nice and I was going to order it too but I didn’t like one shade so I said heck with it I’ll go with orgasm 😀 how are you finding the wear? long wearing?

  • Kajal Couture

I felt the same! I recently tried it out because so many people love this product, but it just had no lasting power! I get longer wear with MAC’s CCBs and those are way cheaper!

  • Kaoru

I like mine, but I use it when I’m traveling, since it can’t shatter like powder, and for low makeup days, when I don’t want my blush to be really noticeable. I can understand why you don’t like it much, though; if I didn’t already own it, and knowing what I know now about how much I like it, I wouldn’t spend that much money on this product. NYX makes decent cream blushes, and for a fraction of the price.

    • the Muse

hi kaoru it’s ideal for travel 😀 also great for low makeup days. It’s just I expected WAY more for the price tag 🙁 $37 is way too much!

  • Carolina

    Hi!
Let me begin with giving you a long distance cyber hug! 🙂
You made me so happy just reading the headline.
Have been looking for a review for LONG and it’s been praised but not really evaluated (or have I just not found the right places!?).
So BIG THANKS. Just what i waited for!

Regarding the powder blushes do they leave like a powdery/dusty finish or more like “melt” on? I’ve never tried the Nars ones.

    • the Muse

aww thanks Carolina all hugs welcome! *hugs back* yayyayayaya so glad this was helpful to you hun! mmmmmmm….not dusty but do kick up alot of dust…they seem to go on very well for me but they are VERY pigmented so a light hand is def the way to go 😀 They blend pretty flawlessly 😀 Worthy of a try dear!

  • robyn

i dont like cream blush on its own but if i know im going to have a super busy day i will use a cream blush (mainly jelly pong pong fluffly sheek stain) under a powder blush

my blusher is bright and there all day yay

dno if it would work with this but it might just a thought so it doesnt lie in a drawer

    • the Muse

hi robyn funny you mentioned this as someone just said a little cream and powder on top makes it wear longer 😀 I think I’ll do that with this as on it’s own it doesn’t last longer!

      😀

  • Betty

Thanks for the review Muse! I thought I was the only person not feeling these >_< I just bought the coffret containing 3 mini Multiples during F&F sale to see what the hype was about as well…I was definitely not impressed. It's not that pigmented and it doesn't last long. Ahhh I knew I should've just stuck with my beloved powder blushes @__@

    • the Muse

my pleasure betty. I was going to get the minis but I only liked the orgasm in the three so I skipped 😀 not impressed either..pigment is good on this one but they don’t last at all for me 🙁

def love the powder way better!

  • jackieg02

I got mine in “Copacabana” a while back. I like to use it as a cheek highlighter and I like it also as a brow highlighter on low key makeup days. Its nice and I do like it but I NEVER reach for it…I don’t know why. And its not really HG material, as you said.

I actually thought about getting the new shade “Luxor” during Sephora’s F&F sale, but changed my mind…I don’t think I really need it anyway.

    • the Muse

hey jackie! mmm same here, not HG in the least 😛 Nice but nothing I trip all over to own. I considered doing the trip during FF kinda sorta glad I didn’t 😛

  • gio

Thanks for the review, you have killed my lemming. I wanted to try it after hearing all the raves about it but if it doesn’t last that long it’s not really worth the money.

    • the Muse

hey gio too costly imho, get a powder blush from nars if you really have a lem 😀

  • hiromix

aww… i think i’m in the minority… actually, i don’t really read THAT many beauty blogs (yours is on my blogroll ^^), more of a fashion blog reader, so didn’t know about ravings/ a devoted following of the multiple, but i am SUCH a sucker for nars multiples. i’ve bought the same one 3 times already. i first bought them when i was living in the uk about 4 years ago. it’s been a happy relationship indeed ^^. my winners are south beach and portofino. i use them as blusher/highlighters. such a nice sheen, i’ve heard lots of nice remarks regarding that “glow” & it blends SO well. south beach is an allrounder (colourwise). it goes with almost any colour story. plus, it seems to last me forEVER. literally had to throw one away cos it seemed to go off (no wonder after more than 1,5 yrs.) but i had lots left.
But on one thing i gotta agree with you, they are not THAT ‘multiple’ in usage. i really only use them for my cheeks.
As mentioned above, REALLY practical for travels. actually when you’re short of space, it could double as an eyeshadow. on the lips it would probably be gone in 2 seconds. :/
price tag IS an issue, but for how long it lasts me, personally it’s well worth it 🙂

i can only vouch for portofino and south beach (my no. 1), though… haven’t tried the other colours (we don’t have nars in korea so i play it safe when i have the chance to haul abroad)

always good to hear opinions about products i use or am interested in trying out! such a busy beauty bee you are 🙂

    xxxxx

    • the Muse

hi hiromix! You aren’t alone dear plenty of lovers 😀 Thank you SO much for reading my blog, totally flattered 😀

I can’t really get on board as it doesn’t wear long at all for me grrrrrr! It’s best on cheeks thats for sure 😀 I like them for travel, they make it easy for a quickie touch up too! hehe I try to be 😀 I like this well enough but not a LOVE for me 😀

      thanks for the lovely comment!

  • Laura

I always hear about Orgasm (whether cream or powder) but it’s just TOO sparkly for my taste and Multiple is just too much….

    I do like laguna

    • the Muse

      hi laura 😀 I love orgasm’s sparkle…I’m guilty of being a bit of a sparkle junkie! 😀 Laguna I haven’t tried!

  • Fifi

I totally agree with you. NARS is a brand which trades off its intangible assets and status as a fashion brand. Not everything is great and the multiple is no exception. I have owned at some point every single one and I have since traded away or given away every single one. There is no room for this in my routine and the fact that it does not last while adding quite a bit of gunk to the face does not help. I think this may work for very pale girls who have drier skins but apart from that, this is not a high performance product by any means. The product gets a lot of coverage due to the media space the company buys but every consumer needs to decide for themselves.

    • the Muse

      hi fifi!

I have dry skin but def doesn’t work so well for me plus the high price point kinda keeps me from indulging further 😛 NARS has some great products but this one I fear is not it.

Thanks so much for posting about your experience with the multiple 🙂

  • Grace Kutney

I have Copacabana and Maldives. I use Copacabana everyday, and can’t imagine ever finishing the tube – there seems to be so much product! I’ve had mine for a year and a half. I use it a bit differently than most, though, I suspect. For some reason, the formula is perfect for me as an undereye base for concealer. I place a small amount under my eyes, in the darker hollow areas near the inner corner, before any other makeup. Then I put concealer on top. I notice when I use it, the concealer doesn’t slip into my fine lines as the day goes on. Plus, the light shimmer peaks thru leaving a pretty “lit from within” sort of appearance. I use it as a highlighter as well.

    • the Muse

hi grace! That’s awesome. Sadly my orgasm melted down pretty fast. Sounds like an cool way to use it! I don’t have the shade so I can’t try it but it sounds lovely 😀 at the moment I only have one, prob won’t indulge further, but I like it just not love it. Wish it would wear longer sigh!

  • kg

have you tired setting them with a blush that has a smilar color? also ive found that the bronze colors are much more flattering than the pinkish redish tones!
