Covergirl & Olay Simply Ageless Corrector Review

Sorry, hope you’re not too bored with the drugstore reviews but no worries I’ll be heading into counter stuff in the next few weeks.

Today I have the new Covergirl & Olay Simply Ageless Corrector actually there is indeed a concealer along with this, sold separately of course, but yes it’s a dual system much like Bobbi Brown’s corrector, concealer pots.

Covergirl & Olay Simply Ageless Corrector 1

Have a jump to hear my word on the Corrector and later this week the concealer.

After my incredible success with the new Maybelline Dream Mousse Concealer I was feeling all kinds of brave and ventured into purchasing myself both the Covergirl & Olay Simply Ageless Corrector and Concealer. I mean these looked awesome, anything that cool looking must work wonders on dark circles, fine lines, etc….plus Ellen uses this stuff and look at her, in her 50’s looking like she’s 30.

Yeah well….looks are deceiving.

This stuff is rubbish.

Basically they formulated it for really dark circles and a means of pairing up two products to combat that woe. They expect you to use the corrector and proceed to pat the concealer on top of it. Do, not, do that. Bad idea. All that product under dry or finely lined eyes and you end up with whoa hot mess.

Covergirl & Olay Simply Ageless Corrector 3

Corrector formula is a yellow base and as we all know yellow is fabs for canceling out the dreaded darkness that hides under our tired eyes. Technically, does a pretty good job of concealing. Pigmented formula, pretty dense as in not too creamy, blends decently, not bad, not bad at all.

Problem.

It sinks into your fine lines and just causes havoc. Oh my what a mess. Umm gosh it’s really difficult to explain the effects but basically it doesn’t quite absorb well and it sits above the skin looking patchy, dry, and terribly bad. I wouldn’t say it doesn’t blend out well but even with proper blending still it fails to absorb correctly and sits above the skin’s surface creating a terrible aging effect. Mind you, the Muse is absurdly well moisturized at the moment since it’s Winter and my skin is behaving fairly normally so even with normal skin it still dried out my entire eye area, settled into the smallest of lines, and aged me a decade.

Not good.

The general idea of applying the concealer on top was dreaded by me to say the least but I decided to give that a whirl. Mind you I tested it out by itself and with the concealer on top. Without the concealer it’s a mess but with it…oh lord….it’s just everywhere and looks so unnatural.

Shrug.

Could be I’m nitpicking it apart but this was such an epic fail. Very odd as the formula has a nice consistency, it’s plenty pigmented, but it just doesn’t settle on the skin properly.

Needs a heck of alot of work. Simply Ageless more like simply age me.

Anyone try?

It’s brand new so I doubt it but curious minds. Funny story I was curious what the world was saying so I headed on MUA and someone puts a 5 rating and proceeds to say it’s a new product out and how she wants it but never tried it. Is that entirely silly or am I nuts?

Anyway.

I dunno I’d say go buy it so we can have something to either rant about together or debate about how much you love it and I hate it!

Covergirl & Olay Simply Ageless Corrector big no likey, do not want.

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. Good to know, since I love Olay, and kept thinking that somehow those little swirls would be so nicely moisturizing on my skin.

    Way to save me money…again!!!

    • the Muse

haha me too S&S but no go! kinda sits on top of my skin and looks awfully dry!

  • Ashley

I rather like the drugstore reviews. I prefer it over high end counters. I’m getting sick of CoverGirl lately though 🙁 This is just one of the few products I find a gimmick.

    • the Muse

I’m a meh for CG ashley. Haven’t found much I can rave from the line, not a single thing 🙁 glad you’re liking ds reviews 🙂 good to hear it!

      • donna

Maybe it’s just me but I wouldn’t say there isn’t a single thing to rave about from CoverGirl. All of the lash blast mascaras (minus the ones with glitter) are amazing! So much volume and length without the clumps and a huge hole in your wallet.

        • the Muse

hey donna no success with lashblast hun 😛 but I think the lipstains from CG stand out for me 🙂

          • donna

sucks about the lash blast. i’m glad to hear the lip stains are good. maybe i’ll give them a go! 🙂

          • the Muse

donna I really love the stains! I’m a stain girl anyway and these are nice 🙂

  • Nancy

Wow. I saw a $2 off coupon for this. Guess I won’t be using it. haha I love that I’m still young so I don’t buy into that “ageless” thing. At least not yet… I hate it when people review things like that!! Like there was this Sephora item that said “temporarily out of stock” you know when they put out new things that aren’t available for sale yet. Someone put 3 stars for a review saying that they wanted to try that product and since it was sold out someone should put up a review. Crazy sometimes.

  • Kaoru

I’ve seen people do that all the time on review boards. I have no idea why they think people want to hear about their lemming on a site that is supposed to be for people to review products that they not only bought, but also tried (sorry if that seems harsh, but it’s a pet peeve).

Thanks for the review. I was wondering about this one, since it’s a corrector, and should be good for your skin, but I guess I’ll just pass, since I have enough products that make me look old because they don’t settle correctly.

  • Kathie

I read the comment above and it’s true, CG Make-up isn’t great quality anymore. I know before they put out a lot of good products, but after awhile it got pretty bad! I couldn’t find anything I liked besides maybe their Lash Blast Mascara, that was alright and it really didn’t leave a lot of clumps on my lashes. I think I’m a physic, Muse. I totally knew this product was going to be a fail! I just saw it and I was probably thinking the whole “ageless” gimmick wasn’t going to work. Anyway, glad to know I was right. I almost bought it because nobody ever gave it a bad review 😛

  • Renata

Hi, Muse! Just came to tell you about Lemon Aid, remember I told you I didn’t like it? Well, perhaps it was something (eyecream?) I was applying before Lemon Aid at the time (don’t remember wich). Anyway, I’m wearing it now almost everyday, no problems, no caking. And I have to say this:

    YOU WERE RIGHT! 😀
It works and it clears all the look. Now I’m addicted. Thank you. (really XD)

    • the Muse

hey renata I’m glad you came back and gave the word doll! this is fab!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😀 I’m a total addict and I’m so glad you’re loving it b/c truly it’s a fab little product 🙂

      w00t!

  • Zelle

I’m liking the drugstore reviews as well. It’s nice having both high-end and drugstore reviews. I tried the Simply Ageless foundation and didn’t like it too much so I’ll steer clear of this. Thank you Muse, I’m a big fan of your site.

    • the Muse

yay glad you’re enjoying them zelle 😀 I haven’t tried the regular Simply Ageless wish I can say how they compare 😀 curious minds…but this left me with a slight film on my face, formula needs a tad bit work.

Why thank you Zelle 😀 That makes my day 😀

  • Jinnzor

I heard that the cream foundation was horrid as well. This is the stuff of nightmares!

    • the Muse

Jinnzor I’ve always been ever so slightly tempted to try the foundation but thank god I didn’t!

  • Charmaine

    hi Iz!
wow that sux, I’m sorry! can you bring it back?

I haven’t tried the concealer, but I do have and very much like the fndn [although I NEVER stick any fndn/concealer/powder under my eyes, as I don’t have dark circles, and the one line I have under my right eye is going away, all fanx to Neutrogena Intensives moisturizer w/stablized vit. C n other stuff n junk in it, YAY!!!!!] I saw it yesterday @ CVS, but I choked when I saw the pricetag – $13.99!!! holy shmakalaka!
IMO, people look better w/some color variances in their faces, otherwise it looks TOO perfect [plastic-y] and just weird. you don’t need it under your bee-yoo-tee-fool eyes anyways, oh she of the smooth clear youthful complexion!
    *BEEEEEEG hugs*

  • Charmaine

ps – L-O-V-E the drugstore reviews, as I’m a DS MU junkie, but you already know that;-)

  • Leslie

I was on the verge of trying the CG Simply Ageless Corrector/Concealer combo. I read your review and decided to try the Maybelline Dream Mousse instead. Just got some today and . . . WOW! I didn’t know a concealer could look this good! I’ve only had it on for a couple of hours but, so far, it looks fantastic!

Thanks for the info – it’s MUCH appreciated!

    • the Muse

hey leslie! I’m so GLAD you got the dream mousse one, it’s like my HG at the moment, incredible stuff. That’s so great you’re loving it so much, I absolutely adore it :-D!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’m glad you didn’t settle for the CG as I really didn’t like it 🙁

  • Artemis

Hi – new to site; will have fun reading through your prior notes. I tried the covergirl olay corrector – I DO have horrible dark circles, so perhaps I’m the target for the product :). Anyway, I’ve been very pleased with results; I use it instead of concealer under my foundation. I haven’t had any problems with dryness or caking – I have seen this with other products, tho, so I know it can occur. I’ve been looking for a yellow-based product to use as a concealer for a long time (I used to use Estee Lauders uncircle, until the product was discontinued) and will likely continue to use this.

    • the Muse

hi artemis good to meet you!

So glad to hear it! I wasn’t successful with the product, it sat a bit unnaturally a top my skin but I’m glad you’re having such good success with it. Yellow based correctors such as this one are great for horrible dark circles so it’s fab that this is working well for you 😀

I hope to hear from you again on other posts!

  • Heidikins

I tried this today…..to my horror, it turned my under eye area GREEN! Seriously I looked like Kermit just around my eye. I wonder if my foundation can cover this greeness up. I use Olay for my basic skin care, but not so sure about cosmetics anymore…

    • the Muse

lol you’re kidding heidi? I don’t mean to laugh but that’s kinda funny! For me it just sat under my eye unnaturally and it creased bad. Just wasn’t too fab at blending or absorbing well 🙁 really wanted to love it!

      • Heidikins

Yeah, cakey green patch under eyes are not very attractive…I think this concealer is very much yellow-based….and I have blueish dark circles. Blue + yellow = GREEN! Pretty obvious (but I didn’t realize). I tried Maybelline Mousse concealer today, and it blended well and hid my circles much better.

        • the Muse

heidi nice to hear you enjoyed the MM concealer, good stuff!

  • LorraineER

Thanks for posting drugstore reviews as well as counter/sephora hauls..I have something to say in response to the CG concealer. I normally dislike CG facial products but the AquaSmooth cream foundation ( in the blue compact) is a medium coverage lightweight overall decent(for drug store) foundation.
I just wish I could take the colors from L’oreal’s true match ( love the powder, h8 the liquid foundation finish) and combine with this texture. The lightest color in the CG Aquasmooth is ok for my skin but not a perfect match- my skin is ghostly pale.

    • the Muse

my pleasure lorraine 🙂 I haven’t tried aquasmooth but heard great things about it 😀 guess it’s next on my list after hearing your rave!
