I usually ignore those for the same reason. But the other day I actually got one in the mail without any exclusions – not even on salon services! I didn’t need anything done at the salon, but I did snatch up some Mario Badescu skincare and some hairproducts.

sweet kristina! I can’t say I got one without the exclusions….here’s to hoping! I really get annoyed by all the exclusions..what the heck is left to buy after that?! :-D !

crotchfairy December 23, 2009 at 10:16 am

Seriously? I’m about to brave the cold for possibly that coupon. I want some Mario Badescu stuff, too.

Muse: I usually use it on nail polish :D Like OPI or Essie. I also have a soft spot for Revlon’s quad of creme shadows. I buy them during the BUY 2 get 2 Free promo. They make for fairly decent bases and I tell myself they’re similar to NARS’ creme shadows *shot*

mm I didn’t notice of MB was off the list or not crotchfairy but it’s kinda a bogus coupon imho!

I haven’t tried the cream shadows…I think I had one ages and ages ago but never used it and gave it away :-D wish I was a nail girl, than I’d be excited about 20%!

ow that sucks! it’s such a turn off when you see you can buy your loved products then boom! They are such dickheads! Isn’t Ulta the one that sells the Twilight range? Maybe it’s not on the exclusions list o.O

Reply

the Muse December 29, 2009 at 12:35 pm

hmmm Mary I dunno I never seen Twilight at Ulta but could be? Hate the exclusions though le sigh!

Reply

mary_in_wonder December 29, 2009 at 12:52 pm

mm then I don’t know which store carries it….but it’s surely not something to flood the shelves everywhere…sadly T_T

the Muse December 29, 2009 at 12:52 pm

LOL mary I guess not. I dunno I haven’t seen it at Ulta?! but maybe?! I’ve seen it at hot topic and torrid though!

MC December 23, 2009 at 9:23 am

What’s left is Ulta brand make-up, which made my eyelids swollen the one time I used their shadows.

The 20% at Ulta is a lie (for the GOOD stuff)…like the cake is lie. T_T

the Muse December 23, 2009 at 12:03 pm

whoa never tried the shadows MC but after hearing that prob never will!

Reply

MC December 23, 2009 at 1:30 pm

Well, my eyes are sensitive to some shadows. I can’t wear a lot of drug store brands (Wet and Wild, Milani, and Prestige) or Mary Kay. Never understood why, but it’s why I try to play it safe and stick with brands I know.

the Muse December 29, 2009 at 12:34 pm

MC can’t say I blame you WandW sometimes scares me LOL! My sis is like you, her eyes water just looking at Wet and Wild, Prestige, Etc!

Why don’t they just say…20% off of this product and this product? I know their goal is to get people to click through to their website and hopefully buy stuff that isn’t on sale (higher profit margin) but, as evidenced here, it can be a PR backfire.

I’ve never shopped at Ulta, in person or on line…Sephora seems to have everything I need…and things I don’t need but buy anyway.

:-)

yup me too, mostly a sephora girl here as well :-D

Ah yes, the infamous 20% off coupons that don’t apply to anything you actually want! I worked at ULTA myself a few years ago and it was so frustrating after doing a makeover and someone would say, “oh I have this coupon!” that it didn’t work on anything that I had just used on them. There were some that thought “All prestige cosmetics” was the -brand- Prestige. ULTA really needs to sit down with their marketing team and make the couon say, “Drugstore & Haircare 20% off” NOT “ALL!”. Something tells me this is where some of the “base CS” thoughts about the company stem from.

the Muse December 23, 2009 at 12:02 pm

wow Ivy! that must be a pain in the butt as your customers probably give you a bunch of snark about it! I think that it’s a good idea to simply spell it out as “Drugstore and Haircare Purchases” That would really make life easier!

Lisa December 23, 2009 at 10:12 am

I totally agree. You’d think they’d spiff up their coupon considering Sephora doesn’t hold back. It is extremely annoying. But I usually use their coupons when they have Essie or OPI deals. Like I scored 5 nail polishes for the prices of 2 a couple weeks ago.

the Muse December 23, 2009 at 12:01 pm

it irks me lisa! If I was a naill girl I’d be in heaven but honestly with all the restrictions it’s not alot I want to indulge in!??!

I just checked out sephoras website, because I have some spare money, but Sephora is doing the same damn thing. Do I really want a Sephora brand eyeshadow palette? Where’s all the good stuff?

Reply

the Muse December 28, 2009 at 4:24 pm

hi paloma they have quite a few items from KV, Kat Von D, Etc…:)

Reply

Kristina December 23, 2009 at 12:40 pm

I wonder why no one else got that coupon. It came in the mail by itself (like a postcard) about a week ago. Are you all signed up for their Reward program? Or maybe it’s a Nebraska thing to lure in shoppers. My Ulta is also doing $5 brow waxes and a few other treatments for the same price.

Reply

the Muse December 23, 2009 at 1:47 pm

oh I didn’t get one kristina just the online email :-D Nope as I don’t shop there much. $5 blow wax? that’s awesome as I pay $32!!!!!!!!

I tried to use it on a Dermalogica set for an auntie @ Ulta.. BAD IDEA.. Dermalogica was excluded (the cashier pointed it out, lol!) Oh Ulta, you tricked me. We are just so used to Sephora!

Selenite December 23, 2009 at 2:52 pm

Alas, I live that Ulta frequently gives out coupons when Sephora gives out piddly samples. However I can’t always buy NYX and nail polish.

Reply

the Muse December 29, 2009 at 12:33 pm

hi selenite cool you enjoy Ulta :-D I’m more a Sephora girl myself and kinda dig the VIP program with the generous samples!

Reply

mel December 23, 2009 at 11:13 pm

I hate Ulta, and their customer service is rubbish.

Reply

the Muse December 28, 2009 at 4:25 pm

mel can’t say I’ve experienced the CS much :-D I normally shop at Sephora who also suffers bad CS at times haha!

Reply

Paloma December 24, 2009 at 12:02 am

Sephora is doing the same thing. This blows. Maybe if I’m lucky, on Christmas or the day after, the sales will sky rocket.

Reply

the Muse December 28, 2009 at 4:24 pm

lots of sales now paloma damn they are giving it away for free at this point!

Johanna December 24, 2009 at 1:11 am

That’s why I usually shop at Sephora — love the VIP Beauty Insider gifts. But the one thing I do shop at Ulta for is C. Booth’s Peppermint Vanilla Creamy Shea Butter Hand Soap. Can’t seem to find it anywhere else, and it leaves my hands so soft and so nice smelling.

Reply

the Muse December 28, 2009 at 4:38 pm

that sounds lovely johanna will have to look out for it, I love me some peppermint :)

i got my coupon in my ulta booklet they always send home to me. in the booklet, they had suggestions for me and i was surprised to see i could use it on high end cosmetics, salon services and even on the chi! i have to admit though, the majority of the time it’s can’t use the coupon on this and can’t use the coupon on that.

Reply

the Muse December 29, 2009 at 12:28 pm

audrey you’re lucky they rarely have those coupons so many exclusions grr!

Reply

SJG December 24, 2009 at 6:25 pm

Considering the Sephora coupon is online only, it may as well not exist as far as I’m concerned. I detest purchasing makeup or fragrance I can’t see, smell or feel. At least with Ulta you can use it in store, and if there’s prestige stuff in the clearance rack (which there often is) it can be used on it.

Reply

the Muse December 28, 2009 at 4:30 pm

hi SJG the return policy is so fab at sephora with free return shipping I don’t mind in the least purchasing online.

I put the new Urban Decay Alice in Wonderland palette in my shopping bag at Ulta.com because their promotion said ALL URBAN DECAY 20% OFF. When I inputted the code it came up as a successful use BUT this palette was excluded from the “ALL URBAN DECAY 20% OFF” deal.

I so hate Ulta. They are only good for their in store clearance shelves.
