Reader’s Request: Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Treatment Makeup Review

Jolie in Illinois wrote me recently and asked please could I review the new Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Treatment Makeup.

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Treatment Makeup 1

Well Jolie that’s not a great chore as I was liking the looks of it anyway!

Jump for the word.

I’m currently having a love/hate relationship with Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Treatment Makeup myself. This is saying something as I have a deep dislike for drugstore foundation. On the note of aging…not sure I really need an age rewind foundation but hey you can never start to early right?

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Treatment Makeup 2

The foundation comes housed in a chubby little bottle with a soft, fuzzy little ball applicator on top. You simply twist and click to get the foundation flowing into the applicator and away you go! I’m a hands on kinda girl and I normally use my fingers to blend out foundation but I generally liked using this applicator for application. It really does kinda work like a little eraser, whisking away dullness and brightening up the skin as it goes. I dunno about fine lines but maybe it’ll whisk those away too! On a note of the applicator, germs, and bacteria…from what I understand it’s been treated so you can simply wipe with a tissue after you’re done and have nary a worry about bacteria growing on it.

I really like the way this makes my skin look. Flawless, bright, dewy…..quite pretty really! However, I hate the formula. It feels greasy and weird. It slips and slides around my face as I apply and leaves behind an oily film. It almost feels as if the foundation has a built in primer of some sort. Now that’s actually the good news as those with larger pores may find that this fills pores as it covers…but me…I just felt it was terribly greasy and gross feeling. Coverage is about medium I’d say but you may be able to go heavier with proper build up.

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Treatment Makeup 3

Overall, I could probably lean towards loving this if it wasn’t for the strange oily formula, that was a total deal breaker for me. You might wanna try it out in store as they have testers available but I don’t think you can get a proper feel for it unless you have a face full of it on. Larger pores, drier skin will maybe find it’s a great one. No pores, oily skin may not like it.

Ok, but needs serious work on the formula.

Anyone try?

Do tell me how you feel about Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Treatment Makeup.

steel def worthy of a try…it’s interesting, particularly b/c of the applicator!

  • Louise

I bought this today and I love it. It hides all my plemishes and I can’t tell that i am wearing make up . I love this product.

    • the Muse

awesome Louise good to hear you’re liking it, glad you had great results 🙂

  • pinkcrow

I just got this last night and you are correct- I have dry skin and large pores and this is a dream! I am not particularly enamored of the sponge, because I like to apply foundation with a brush; also I dislike the click-pen mechanism because you don’t have adequate control over how much product comes out. But the formula is fantastic so far (we’ll see in a week if it beats out my beloved Jemma Kidd).

    • the Muse

fantastic pinkcrow. Did you feel a tiny greasy though after use? it left a bit of a film on my skin. I like to apply with my fingers actually so I end up dabbing on but blending with my fingers shrug…can’t get out of the habit 🙂

      • pinkcrow

No, not really greasy at all. But it’s 4 degrees, dry and windy here so these are not the best testing conditions. We shall see how it performs in warmer weather.

        • the Muse

hi pinkcrow I really need to concentrate on this a bit more b/c it leaves a greasy film on me..grrr!

  • Sara

Formula souds like the dream satin liquid!!
Did you look at the ingredients to see how similar they are? haha
    Thanks for the review

    • the Muse

i haven’t sara 😀 must take a peek! Wish it worked a bit better, loved how it “erased” just hated the greasy film it left behind!

  • MF

Have been using for about a week – full disclosure: over the age of 50, quite oily skin with mid-to-large pores and some redness areas. NO oily feeling at all for me, altho’ a little creamier than a “liquid” (IMHO) so I’m not certain about other “oil/grease” comments. I don’t use primer – simply because it’s been terrific without it, but may test w/my beloved Lorac AquaPRIME… or with the Age Rewind’s primer (worth a try – far less costly than Lorac!) Tried the primer tester at the store: felt a LOT like Lancome’s T-Zone gel powder (a great product but not a primer in my book) so I’m sticking with Lorac primer for now (UTTERLY diff feel/product).

Plastic bottle is nifty – tight lid – suspect safe in purse (fine in my cosmetics case!) Love the puffy sponge – I do swipe my finger over it to get to smaller areas.

Strongly recommend: bring a mirror with you to testers, and TRY THEM ON YOUR FACE (bring Q-Tips if you want) — I ended up with shade I would never have selected without doing this. See note below on testers, however!!
Note: I did not like the Foundation formula (not enough coverage, shades are slightly different). This Eraser Treatment is better for me, although it does go on a little lighter color than the Foundation tester of same name indicates. Take that into consideration if you test with the Foundation samples!

    • the Muse

hi MF thanks for your detailed review! Sounds like it’s really working for you! 🙂 Thanks also for your tips on testing them in store 😀 I ike it very much so far but it’s a tad greasy for me but nice none the less. Your review will be helpful here I’m sure 🙂

I bought this about a week ago and have fallen in complete love with it. I am 34 and I have large pores, oily skin and before starting my Yaz 2 years ago have had acne since I was in 6th grade. I have gone through foundation after foundation and have always ended up going back to my Rimmel, til now. I now have no acne but do have brown spots from all my pregnancies and this foundation (eraser treatment) covers them completely without feeling like I’ve put paste all over my face. I think this oily feeling people are describing is actually being confused with a kind of silicon feel to it. When I worked for The Body Shop years ago we had a product called “Vitamin C serum”, it felt absolutely amazing because it was kind of a powdery silky feeling. People aren’t used to that feeling so they confuse it with an oily feeling. If you find it doesn’t cover enough for you then try dabbing a little of Loreals Bare natural gentle mineral concealer just on the spots. Together they are amazing. The only downside to the eraser treatment is that it doesn’t have any SPF in it so my darkspots flare up with sunscreen under or on top of it. I let my Blue Lizard sunscreen set in before applying eraser then after eraser the Loreal concealer adds a little more spf (25 to be exact).

    • txtechmom09

The eraser treatment does have an SPF 18 sunscreen. At least that is what my bottle says. I love the product. It goes on smoothly and feels great. The only time that I have noticed a “greasy” feeling is if it applied to heavily at one time and then I blot with a tissue.

  • Zpd1229

Correction on comment I made. I meant that if I don’t wear sunscreen under or on top, that my sunspots will flare up. Blue lizard goes on white and sets in clear, then I wipe off the greasiness it sometimes can leave, then I put on the eraser, then concealer.

  • Twylightmom

I’m 26 years old with dry skin. I dislike this product A LOT! Looks horrible on me. However I don’t think it feel greasy, I don’t even notice it on other then I hate the look. I am going to try again after I put some face lotion on and let that dry and see if it makes a difference. I don’t like face lotion though so really it wont make a difference in my use if I cant put it on without lotion.

    • the Muse

hey twylightmom! Sorry to hear it hun! I have dry skin too. I actually liked the way it looked on but it felt greasy on my face a bit. could be you got the wrong shade? How does it look on? patchy? too light? have you tried primer before application? that might help!

  • Shirley

I would love to try this if I could get the foundation to go in to th applicator!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • lisa

loooved this rewind it helps not to look to made up and brightened my face ..over 40.

  • Diana

Maybe the clicker is broken on my bottle. I just bought it but can’ t get it out of the bottle!

      • Diana

Actually, I finally did get it to work…guess I needed instructions 😉 I twisted the bottle about 10 times and it finally began to flow…I just turned 60 in January and I like the way it cover flaws…feels good on my skin as long as I don’t use too much…I just dab it on and smooth it out with my fingers

        • the Muse

yay fantastic diana 🙂 glad you got it! I liked it but I felt it was every so slightly greasy! 😛

  • APRILLE

Im 57 and have large pores and some not so fine lines around my mouth. I liked the way it looked when I finally got it on. The sponge applicator kind of left lines on my face and i had to smooth it with my fingers. It did look sort of oily and my skin is normal/dry; so I put a mineral veil on over it and it looked great. Stayed put all day at work. I like it a lot. Not so crazy about the sponge though. Maybe im doing something wrong. Any suggestions?

    • the Muse

hi aprille! Glad to hear you’re liking it. I had to smooth on with my fingers as well after use. The sponge is unconventional for completely application in my opinion! smoothing on with the sponge and blending out with fingertips works best for me 🙂

      • APRILLE

after using it awhile im not liking it so much. it shows my pores. i still us it around my mouth. it hids wrinkles pretty good there and my pores are small there. what is the best foundation for not showing all of the pores on your cheeks????

        • the Muse

sorry to hear it aprille 🙁 I’m not sure as my pores are VERY tiny so I don’t really have a great rec for this, perhaps a good primer will help!?

  • Cejay

I just got it and after help from hubby on how to get it to work (blush) I LOVE it. I am 47 and getting those pesky fine lines and crows feet and while this does not eliminate them it does blur them. I was hoping that I would not have to use my fingers with the makeup but found that I did. The only other drawback that I noticed is that the coverage was not heavy enough in my problem areas. I have the red areas and large brown spots on my face and this did not cover them enough for me. These were the only drawbacks that I noticed. I was thrilled since I am trying to get away from my higher priced speciality makeup.

    • the Muse

that’s fab cejay sounds like it worked great for u. I like it but it had a tad of a greasy film to me but aside from that it was nice!

  • APRILLE

what is the best foundation for large pores. i would love an airbrush effect. that would be a miracle.

    • the Muse

not sure aprille as I don’t have larger pores sadly. I’ve experienced great results with BB Creams that are very nice and flawless looking however my pores are really small so I’m unsure what the best base is for larger pores 😛

  • julie

i just recently bought this and i was just wondering how many times do you move the clicker pen till the right amount of foundation comes out??????,every time i use it seems like i turn it about 10times but then tooo much foundation gets on my skin, making it look cakey

    • the Muse

mmm took me about four turns julie. after that it flows fairly easy. It didn’t make me look cakey but it left a weird film on my face that felt greasy 🙁

  • Riv

I love this foundation, I am 51 fair , small pores, sensitive, dry skin, Love the ease and convenience, especially getting ready in the morning for work. It really does blur the lines and gives me a brightening natural look. I dont feel made up or mask like. I always say less is best, so when applying this be light handed not too much goes a long way. I alternate foundations, I am a warm ivory in BB and also plan to try the Korres foundation per your review. Love your site, I plant to be a new regular reader. Love your reviews! Thank you.

    • the Muse

hi riv! so glad to hear it 😀 I’m liking it too but it does leave a bit of a film on my skin! 😛 I think you’ll like the Korres alot 😀 Aw thank you very much *hugs* I appreciate it and hope we can talk again soon!

  • Lora

I just bought mine yesterday, I was so excited about trying it I bought two different shades just in case, good thing because the 300 Medium Beige was way to dark, but he 290 creamy beige was a perfect match.
I love this foundation! I have used Merle Norman Total Finish compact for years because it gave a great coverage but settled into my lines and pores and could never find a color to match. So when I used this it was just like it was erasing my pores and fine lines and the color is perfect on me!
It does feel slippery and greasy when first applying, but once it dried and I applied my powder it was a beautiful finish and not greasy. I am 44 by the way. I am so happy I found this, it is very lightweight but covers wonderfully. I can touch my face and it does not rub off.
The remaining foundation that is left on the applicator from the day before I am going to apply to my face before I try and click anymore out, that way there is no waste, I am not worried about wiping the applicator off with a cloth, I never did that with my sponge so I don’t see any reason to.
My eyeshadow also looks great on this foundation.
I hope they never quit making this stuff! I will be a customer for life.

  • Ally

CVS is currently having a 40% off sale on many Maybelline cosmetics. I went today and I’m pretty sure this foundation was one of the products on sale! I know the primer that goes with this as well as the 24 hour superstay foundation were on sale though.

  • Ally

Have you tried the Instant Age Rewind Double Face Perfector? It looks like an interesting concealer and I am thinking of trying it. Thanks!

  • Sharon

I totally love this foundation. I bought the color Sandy beige. My skin looked amazing. I have tried alot of foundations in my lifetime. When I discovered this I thought this it….. Unfortuntely after using it for one week I started to break out really bad. I was devastated because I had bought 3 more bottles at CVS for 40 percent off (non refundable either even unopened because it was on sale by the way). I cannot figure out what is in it that would be breaking me out. Oh well I have 4 bottles and I will just use it on special occasions I guess. So for now my search for the perfect foundation continues.

  • Jakeline

oh no no no..i used this and it made me break out in a itchy rash on the sides of my nose, and its too bad because it worked pretty well

  • kali kaliii

I went to London Drugs and tried this today. I really liked how soft the formula was, and the way it covered my skin with a lighter tone. My skin is naturally sort of red so it took all of that blotchyness away. 🙂 I really kinda loved this, except for the little ball thingy at the end, I feel it wasnt large enough.

  • Lora

I bought this product the other day and it definitley will erase all blemishes as long as you don’t rub it in, which is impossible to do, because otherwise you would have a greasy face that will not dry. Once you rub it in it only provides a light coverage. I was really hoping that when I read the word eraser that it would erase all blemishes for the whole day, not just when first applied before rubbing it in. Very dissapointed.

  • Rebecca

hey muse long time reader first time comenter this just came to the uk nd i have a boots gift card so might try it out cuz i have huge pores nd flaaky skin ps luv ur blog nd doctor who x i miss dt 😛 x

    • the Muse

hi rebecca great to meet you thanks for commenting today! Hope this works for you hun! aw thanks ;-D Glad to meet a fellow who fan!

  • Trina

Hey Id just like to ask you about how well this foundation matched your skin tone? Im very very pale (nc5-nc15 in mac–neutral/yellow undertones) and maybelline always seems too pink and/or dark for me but its so hard to tell sometimes. What do you think ?

  • jazzie

HI! i just bought this yesterday, two of them, and i LOOOOVE the coverage 🙂
Your not the only one who feels the grease, i do too 🙁 its REALLY perfect, but it makes my
skin feel all oily and weird. In the morning, my skin is dry after i wash it, and in the afternoon
its sooo oily, so my skin is dry and oily:[ it feels quite like moose cream/foam. This gives
me a weird feeling on my face and im searching for the right color. I never do. But this has the color that matches my skintone. Im only 14, and i need a good foundation!

  • Georgia

100% in agreement with your oily/greasy critique. I googled those exact words solely because of my distain for the feel of the formula on my face. I purchased this product because of the applicator; I use the concealer which I like very much. But this greasy formula is a total dealbreaker.

    • Isabella Muse

yeah you know, I have really dry skin and I still feel like it’s just TOO slick for me 🙁
