mail bag

Today the mail bag contains a question about concealers!  The Muse is ALWAYS up for discussing concealer with you guys so jump ahead to hear the word!

Muse,

I saw your post about under eye circle creams, and I was wondering what kind of concealer you use for your undereye circles. I currently use Benefit’s Boi-ing, and something around that price ranged (around 20 bucks) would be preferred because I go through my concealer VERY quickly. Boi-ing isn’t really doing it for me anymore it seems to run and cake up a little bit. Any recommendations?

Thanks,
Samantha

Dear Samantha,

Wow, totally hear you about Benefit. Benefit Boi-ing was one of my holy grail concealers for a very, very, very long time. But for some reason it’s just not doing it for me anymore either. It cakes, creases, and just causes general pains under my eyes. I do have about five concealers I am currently rotating between but to keep it in and around your budget here are my picks.

Try out Maybelline Dream Mousee Concealer which will set you back from $6 to $10 at your local drugstore. I’m absolutely loving it at the moment. A little goes a really long way as it’s crazy pigmented!

I also love Shills Electric Eye Concealer which will set you back around $14.99 on E-bay. It covers very well, it’s extremely creamy and moisturizing, and it blends like an absolute dream!

Kevin Beautymaker Aqua Eye Concealer is also in your price range at around $13.99. You can purchase it on E-bay or a shop called Imomoko. It’s as equally great as Shills and does a great job of concealing circles, fine lines, and other woes.

At under $20 or so all of these come with my highest recommendation and are concealers I reach for daily. They are all HG (holy grail) material for me as well.

Good Luck! Hope these help!

Thanks! I, too, need the concealer like a gun needs bullets (if that makes sense, hehe, I’m not a morning person…). I really need to check those out. Right now I’m actually having good success with Max Factor Pan Stik foundation as a concealer. Too bad it’s leaving these shores, *cries.*

I hear a lot of great things about MAC Studio Sculpt concealer. It’s very creamy but not greasy, so perfect for the undereye area.

I rather like YSL’s Touch Eclat — it’s pretty sheer, but brings some luminosity to the eyes and wakes them up.

hey johanna that’s a great one for sure! I have it and like it very much but sadly it’s not in the price range that Samantha was asking about. She wanted something 20 or under! And YSL is def not 20 or under :-D

naaa robyn I think I just got older and it failed to work for me as fine lines developed and puffiness! I love it but my eyes don’t :(

These three sound promising w/o breaking the bank! I’m currently using a Nars concealer ($22) and liking the convenience of a stick packaging but when I’m out, I’m down for some adventures :D
I’ll probably try the Maybelline first since I can go to the store to match on my skin. The other two sounds a tad bit more interesting to me though lol. But I’m scared of ordering the wrong color!

ugh ally no offense I hate the nars stick concealer, drives me wonky :-D awww I totally understand. Well the shills one is sadly one color fits all…medium fair or so is best on that and the kevin beautymaker is three shades, I use the lightest and it works well on my medium fair :-D dunno if this helps :-D

I love the maybelline one it’s becoming a fast fav for me!

I’m thinking about trying the Maybelline one as I have olive skin, and it’s hard to use a “one shade fits all” on my skin. Thanks for all the recommendations! I used to use Dior concealer, but I found that after a month or so I would be out of it, too many late nights. (I’m a med student).

hi samantha….yes the dior ones goes QUICK! especially if you use frequently. olive skin is a hard one, my sis has same problem getting a good match for her skin! I’d head to Bobbi Brown as they can match you up witha good shade!

At the moment I’m really loving the Pixi Neutralizing Coverup Kit.

It recommends the pink colour, followed by one of the 3 shades of concealer and the setting powder for darkness under the eyes.

It is the best thing I have used for brightening under my eyes (I have a lot of allergies so my dark circles are really bad) and the texture of the creams is fantastic :)
