Beauty Babblings: L’Oreal Studio Secrets Professional Collection

The Muse has been busy stalking CVS lately. Mind you this type of behavior never happened prior to all the delightful releases from L’Oreal, Maybelline, Etc…..obviously, finally, the US market is catching up with the Asian one and we are getting some cool drugstore releases.

So I’m staking out CVS to see when they’ll release the L’Oreal Studio Secrets Professional line.

Jump!

As per a discussion we had a long time ago L’Oreal appears to be phasing out the L’Oreal HIP line and replacing it with the L’Oreal Studio Secrets Professional line. Some products from the HIP line are being axed to make room for new products where as others are staying but just getting the new L’Oreal Pro line name stamped on ’em.

Now to get to that stalking part….

After it’s launch in the UK months ago it appears we are finally getting the entire L’Oreal Studio Secrets Professional Collection. The line is already readily available for purchase at Drugstore.com but I have yet to see it in stores and from what I understand it’s set for a February launch.

Since it’s been a terribly long time since I mentioned it all those months ago when it released in the UK I thought I’d give you a brief glimpse of some of the line again. I find it quite an exciting line actually as it’s really a display of how drugstore cosmetics seem to be evolving. If brands continue on this path I’m thinking my market share in cosmetics will swing around on it’s axis and you could see me making more and more trips to see what I can haul from L’Oreal and other brands at my local drugstore.

  • L’Oreal Studio Secrets Professional Eye Shadow Singles ($4.48)

  • L’Oreal Studio Secrets Professional Magic Perfecting Base

  • L’Oreal Studio Secrets Professional Color Correcting Primers

  • L’Oreal Studio Secrets Professional Eye Shadow Quads

Now we haven’t gotten the complete pro range it appears. If you peek at my original post, the UK appears to have gotten the brunt of the collection and we are missing out on the glosses, lipsticks, and a few other odds and ends. I haven’t checked the Asian market on this but I imagine they have gotten this even before the UK.

As of now I’m quite interested in the Magic Base and the Eyeshadow Singles. I’ve already tried one of the primers and didn’t love it but I will explore further shades as I’m curious if I’ll have better results with them.

What do you think of the L’Oreal Studio Secrets Professional Collection?

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. I want I want. (I’m now going to be stalking my Fred Myers and Walmart until either of them get these.) I especially want to try the primers. I use Bare Escentuals primer at the moment, but would love to try the anti-shine or anti-redness primer just to see if either are better.

Oh and really, why wouldn’t they release the lipsticks/glosses here in the States? Doesn’t L’oreal know we are in a recession and everyone buys more lipstick in a recession!

    • the Muse

me too kate! I really wanna try the magic base stuff that looks good! I dunno..I hope they do but at this point it’s not on the site maybe in the summer?! I sure hope so!!!!!!!!!!

      😀

      LOL Lipstick Index!

  • MC

I’m more disappointed that HiP had to be phased out for Studio Secrets. I always liked HiP as L’oreal is one of the few drugstore brands I can use and HiP had some great lipglosses and eye liners.

I’m interested in the primers, but that’s about it.

    • the Muse

mc I can’t understand WHAT they are doing with HIP right now but it seems to be going all pro. they are keeping the piggies, the dual glosses with the crummy packaging that I like so much, liners, etc but some stuff like the pigment sticks, regular glosses, matte shadows etc are being axed I THINK. but we shall see!

Def want to try out the shadows and the magic base stuff 🙂

  • Sarah

I’m really looking forward to trying the green primer. The packaging reminds me a bit of MUFE, and I’m hoping the quality is comparable as well 🙂

    • the Muse

agreed sarah very mufe! 😀 I tried the dullness one, peach shade, but didn’t love it but I wanna try the pink to see if that’s better. very good texture/formula on these, creamier than MUFE but the peach didn’t seem to love me so I hope the pink will be fabs!

  • Fabiola

This line has been released in The Netherlands as well, but we don’t have the eye shadow quad over here and the packaging of the single eye shadow is different. We do have the lipglosses and lipsticks. The lipgloss appears to be quite pigmented, but the lipstick seems quite similar to the Color Riche Shine Gelee.

    • the Muse

hey fabiola how are you dear no worries as the quad is actually kinda boring so I doubt u are missing much 😀 Lucky you guys got the glosses/lipsticks no word hear but I’m hopeful. They look a bit shimmery though where as I get more of a color rich/matte from the regular line of lipsticks so kinda curious ’bout ’em!

  • Dao

I saw the new single eyeshadows at CVS. They have the same name and everything, except for the new packaging and Chanel-inspired quilted surface look. I will be very sad if they nix HiP, those stuff are really awesome and cheap, too. More and more recently, I’ve been inching closer to L’Oreal because this brand produce the best drugstore makeup.

    • the Muse

dao were they at the loreal display or on one of those middle racks with the new stuff!? Haven’t seen them yet grrr! 🙂 It’s not a nix it’s just a few products they are taking down thankfully 😀 L’Oreal has been putting out ALOT of interesting stuff lately!

  • Nina

We got this stuff in germany for a long time now…but I didn’t try anything…I’m not interested and it’s very expensive over here…I think Loreal is not worth the price :/
    I’d like to have H.I.P. instead 🙁

    • the Muse

nina it’ll prob be way cheaper over here! but totally understand as some DS stuff is not worth the price hear either 🙁 Maybe now that it’s gone PRO it will release worldwide!?

  • Gemma

    Hi Muse
Iv been looking at this for ages in boots. I too want to try the magic base as im obsessed with primers at the moment and have tried most of the top brand primers. I want to try this one but its 14.99 which is quite dear if its going to be crap. I might wait and see if you review it before i cave in. 🙂

    • the Muse

gemma gawd wish you were here as drugstores are really good about returns lately! that’s crazy amount for it 🙁 I imagine here it’ll be around $14.99 USD much cheaper. As soon as I have it my greedy little hands I’ll let you know the word.

How are you btw? Haven’t seen u in a bit! happy weekend!

  • Tara

Hey Muse, you may have to trek over to the dreaded Walmarts cause that’s where I found the magic base already available and snagged it for $10! Personally I love it because I have very oily skin and large pores, but the texture is exactly like Marshmallow Fluff. I am very interested in hearing what you think of it!

    • the Muse

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO not the evil empire Tara! God. *breaths deep* ok. I’ll get my sword out! 😀 It sounds nice! thick? is it silicon like? Do share 😀

  • Deanna

Loreal Magic Perfecting Base: I’ve tried it Sunday and Monday. I LOVE IT–so far. Let me wait until the end of the week to see if I break out.

I love the idea of primer, but I haven’t had good luck before Loreal. I bought the cheapy Rimmel one and the cheapest of the Sephora brands, I think it’s called Sephora Base. I pretty much hated both. The Rimmel one is the color of Silly Putty and I’m not sure I noticed any difference at all. The Sephora one is kind of a pearly pinkish white that made my skin’s pores look enormous and shiny.

The Loreal one feels so soft, smooth, and MATTE. I asked my husband if I looked Matte about 100 times yesterday during the Superbowl. He was very interested in how matte my skin was, let me tell you. I think it really did it’s job of improving the look of my pores and wrinkles, and keeping my makeup looking fresh all day.

I don’t look perfect or airbrushed (my goal) but it’s pretty nice. I LOVE the way it feels.

I got it at Ulta for $12.99 and they had a sale on Loreal buy 2 get one free.

  • Mariella

I cannot wait either. I work at a CVS in California and we are getting a major beauty reset on the 17th of this month…You should stalk CVS around that time…lol I was able to see a few of the new products from all brands and I cannot wait… I am especially excited about Milani…I saw alot of sparkly things….lol

    • the Muse

hey mariella u totally gave me the inside scoop lol! I’ll be stalking CVS on the 17th 😀 I seen the milani eye sparklez gel and those are SUPER glittery hehe!

I can’t wait until CVS finally gets these in, dying to dry the base!

  • Donna Grubbs

CANNOT FIND THE STUDIO SECRETS PROFESSION MAGIC PEFECTING BASE ANYWHERE!!!! PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHEN YOU WILL START HAVING THEM IN THE DRUG STORES, WALMART OR TARGET! LIVE HERE IN FLORIDA. READ ARTICLE ABOUT THIS MAKE-UP IN VOGUE AND WENT OUT TO GET SOME, BUT NONE THERE!

    • the Muse

donna I’m not L’Oreal…? You should probably write L’oreal directly. This is personal blog about beauty which features reviews, etc…on cosmetics. I believe you want to talk to L’Oreal about the stock of the item.

      Hope this helps.

  • Taryn

I just got the Magic Perfecting Base at Walgreens a week ago, and it’s just your basic primer. Very velvety, silicone-y feel, and definitely nothing new, at least for me.

I can only use this stuff around my nose as it would make my cheeks break out, but it did a reasonably good job of smoothing things out. I still prefer my Avon Magix Tinted Primer though.

I had no clue they were phasing out HIP. I hope they don’t do away with those fat eyeliner crayons and the Chrome liners. They wear like steel!

    • the Muse

hey taryn! So far I kinda like it! It seems quite nice and I thought it felt like it was making my foundation last a tad longer although I agree it’s a standard silicon primer although it’s a great dupe for clarins instant smooth!

They aren’t phasing it out completely but some of the items are gone sadly. the pigment crayons, I believe the dual glosses, and a the pigments….it’s now called L’oreal Studion Secrets

  • angela

i *secretly* swatched the green primer at walgreens LOL, the guy behind the counter was looking at me =__= anyway, has too many glitters in it. So weird!!

    • the Muse

glitter angela? that’s weird shouldn’t have glitter at all.
