Covergirl Lash Blast Mascara Review: Over Hyped?

Hi Cheekies!

Covergirl Lash Blast Mascara 1

I’m kinda sorta a little delayed posting the past day and a half. Forgives me? Been swamped!

Finally, after sooooooooo long depriving myself. I recently indulged in Covergirl Lash Blast Mascara. It’s one of the most talked about mascaras around and completely old news but I so had to finally try it for myself!

Jump to hear it!

I’m feeling kinda like this is over hyped.

Covergirl Lash Blast Mascara 2

Dude, you can seriously hurt yourself with the size of the freaking applicator by the very way. This is like a club! Holy cow! I kinda giggle at the size of the new mascara brushes, they scare the bejesus out of me. Damns! It’s huge. It’s a plastic applicator with little spikes for grasping lashes but it’s about three times the size of a normal brush.

Covergirl Lash Blast Mascara 3

Now there isn’t any question this works fab at plumping up lashes. It really creates fat, juicy lashes but it doesn’t do so well in the lenght department. I seen noticeable results in a fuller lash look but nothing in regards to longer lashes. The formula isn’t anything to get worked up over, it’s nice, it’s pigmented but I didn’t take note of anything special about it, although it does dry down to stiff, crunchy lashes, happy days (sarcasm).

Now you do have to be careful during applicator because 1. you can poke your eye out and 2. you can create a hot uni-lash mess. As in it applies and proceeds to goop all your lashes together into one. A comb out is in order dears. After a little bit of a learning curve the Muse proceeded to get the knack of it and no longer needed to follow up with comb to get things in order.

Results are ok. As I said fatter lashes which are nice but overall I’m not writing my dear old mum about what a fab mascara I just purchased and how it’s change my life and how we might have kids together in the future.

Yeah…none of that is happening.

If it’s on sale, buy it, if not, skip it. It’s not going to change your mascara world, heck mine is already buried in the bottom of the makeup graveyard.

Feeling meh about Cover Girl Lash Blast Mascara.

Off topic but doesn’t my eye look like a venus fly trap? ha! Easily amused I tell you!

What about you?

Big fan?

Loves it?

Leaves it?

Say the word!

I used this stuff before, the glittery formula – hated it, and then bought the normal formula and hate it too. It works great like you said for pumping up your lashes but the formula sucks! It seems to flake off all day which gets into my eyes and irritates them. I hate wasting money but I actually might throw this away for the simple fact that red eyes are not attractive at all!

    • the Muse

glittery jaci?! thankfully no flaking or smudging but my lashes feel like a bag of chips, crunch, crunch hehe!

  • Cucumpear

I haven’t tried Lash Blast – the whole lack of Cover Girl over here, y’know – and I’m not all that interested. Because (a) I find those huge applicators a bit hard to handle, (b) for some reason I’ve never had good results with spiky brushes or combs (only the old-fashioned bristles will get good results), and (c) I don’t like combing my lashes after applying mascara.
If a tube of Lash Blast finds its way into my hands I’d try it, but I’m not going to actively seek it.

  • Sasha

I have Lash Blast Length and I don’t really care for it because it’s not very thickening. It does give nice length, but I have to do another coat with something else to get the thickness I want… Don’t think I’ll be trying regular Lash Blast.

  • Christina

Okay, clearly I’m in the minority here but I love Lashblast. However, I LOATHE the waterproof version.
I accidentally bought the waterproof version and it is everything you said it was. Nothing spectacular, dries crunchy and smudges all over me to boot! However, the original non-waterproof formula is nothing like that. My lashes are soft all day and it totally plumps them up to like 100x their normal size ( I have teensy Asian lashes).
I also own the Lashblast Length, and I love the length, and when I layer Length under the original Lashblast, I have falsie worthy lashes.

    • the Muse

      he christina!

maybe I need to try the regular now! but I still hate the brush, it’s so bloody BIG! damn! Weird how the WP formula differs so much from the regular formula! I think ALOT of people really over Lash Blast but this is my 2nd experience with the lash blast line amd so far it’s a no for me sigh 🙁

    • donna

I am so glad I’m not the only one having problems with the waterproof formula. I bought it because when I was traveling I didn’t bring any mascara but I accidentally grabbed the waterproof one. If flakes off and falls into my eyes within a few hours of wearing it. My eyes are totally irritated for at least 12 hours after wearing it. Totally sucks! Glad to hear the normal Lash Blast is better because the waterproof does offer great volume.

      • the Muse

donna totally crunchifies my lashes. plus it’s just fatter lashes no lenght!? le sigh. no likey! obviously have to try the regular 😀

  • Morgan

I bought mine a month ago, and I’m just using to use it up. I don’t see what the big deal was. I do like MAX Factor’s mascaras though. Not the greatest, but not bad either. 🙂

    • the Muse

morgan omg dude so had the same probs with max factor no offense. brush applicator was HUGE and same effects as the CG not sure what the raving is about with CG but I wasn’t really all that wow’ed!

  • dina

definitely overhyped and every time i see that damn commercial with drew barrymore i think for a second maybe i should try it again but obviously not!
    🙂 thanks muse

    • the Muse

lol dina! thank god I’m not nuts! I hear so many raves but I didn’t feel there was anything special about it.

  • Nia

Totally overhyped I think. Thanks for saying it out loud. Couldn’t agree more with all you said.

One of the Bourjois mascaras is a nice dupe for the HR Lash Queen mascara.

    • the Muse

mmm nia I see so many raves but just wasn’t feeling it. I love bourjois mascaras in general they are awesomes!

  • Dao

Surprisingly, this mascara worked very well for me. However, the reason I did not repurchase is the size of the thing: it is so HUGE, I can work out with it. CG mascaras do not give you glossy lashes, which is a disappointment but honestly, since I am all for fat lashes, I loved it.

    • the Muse

hey dao! no glossy lashes so true! it’s is REALLY big! I don’t think it’s a matter of how much is inside that tube though, it’s just that big b/c it has to house that monster size applicator lol! I like thicker but I would love longer too!

  • Marsha

I love Lashblast. Like Christina said the waterproof version blows. You should go for the regular one. I have poked my eye a few time due to the size of the brush, but no harm done.

    • the Muse

lol marsha! dude I totally poked my eye a few times 😀 ok I guess regular lash blast it is! 🙂

  • beeks

I actually have hurt myself with that wand. My lashes are naturally fair but I like black mascara, so I tend to aim quite close to the roots… all I have to say is don’t do that with this product, and for the love of all that is good in this world, do NOT attempt to wiggle the brush to get it closer to the roots! Owie owie owie. My favourite drugstore mascara is called Ultimate Lash by a Canadian company called Marcelle. In my opinion, Ultimate Lash is markedly similar to the DiorShow black out formula, with one notable difference: It doesn’t smudge. If you ever happen across Marcelle Ultimate Lash, you should check it out!

    • the Muse

omg beeks I’d so do that too. I could imagine poking my eye out with it lol I def don’t do a wiggle action, applicator is WAY too big too attempt it hehe! Mmmm never tried that, quite familiar with Marcelle but never tried the mascaras must have a lookie! 😀 thanks for the rec!

  • suz

Not the best mascara but I like it! For the price it’s good enough since you have to throw mascara’s out within 3 months or a lil longer!

Nothing beats my Japanese Mascara’s I say…not even the high end name brands!!

  • Zelle

I’m currently using the regular Lash Blast right now. I find it okay. I don’t like how it doesn’t get the inner and outer lashes cuz the brush is so awkward to use. I tried Lash Blash Length (the yellow tube) and didn’t like that one. Still searching for that HG mascara that will give me length.

    • the Muse

zelle totally hear you on awkward the damn thing is the size of my small ring finger LOL Majolica Majorca Lash Expander…GOOD lenght 😀

  • Allyssa

I absolutely agree! I got this as a gift and figured I would try it. After figuring out how to use the brush I don’t have to worry about the lashes clumping anymore. But I’m just not sold! My biggest gripe is that my lashes look stubby with this product. Thicker and darker, but it doesn’t give any length and doesn’t help at the tips of my lashes. Stubby lashes! I’ll stick with my Clinique mascaras, thank you!

    • the Muse

allyssa all the same probs here hun. mostly it fattens but absolutely no lenght plus I’m terrified of the brush…scaries hold me! 🙂

  • DivaShop

I like the fullness I get from the regular lash blast, but I do agree that the huge brush is positively dangerous, lol. I personally prefer my Rimmel Sexy Curves Mascara.

    • the Muse

gloria you could kill someone with it! GASP! 😀 haha!

I like Sexy Curves myself, good stuff!

  • Marina

I had this for a while but was not impressed…It did a nice job making my lashes more pronounced, but they clumped often…

  • Margaret

    Leaves it!

It doesn’t curl, it doesn’t lengthen. So many other ‘scaras do.

I’m wearing it right now, and it kinda makes my eyes sting a little.

  • Solyi

See, personally, I hated Sexy Curves cause it left my lashes kind of meh, but I love Lash Blast! LOL! I have no problems with the wand. Sure it takes practice but I’ve been using it for over a year. And I will agree with others that the Waterproof version of Lash Blast SUCKS!

    • the Muse

hey solyi i think I got it into my head sexy curves was a great dupe for fairy lashes and I just went on it from there and kinda dug on it 😀 I seriously need to try the regular one as everyone is raving it 😀 maybe it could change my mind!

  • Audrey

I totally agree! I didn’t buy this, but my friend has it as well as the one in the hot pink tube (I guess it’s glittery or something) and I felt like it didn’t do anything! The only drugstore mascara I’ve used and liked is Max Factor Volume Couture but now of course I can’t get it anymore 🙁 Lately I’ve been using Lancome Hypnose Drama and layering Fiberwig on top. Without the Fiberwig on top, I get panda eyes later xD

    • the Muse

audrey I think I know which glittery ones now a ha I got confused but I know now! 😀 Fiberwig always makes me feel like I have a lash in my eye 😀 but I love MJ extender lash..that’s my HG japanese wise!

  • Ashleigh

    I threw it away.
It was horrible, so flaky and goopy and ugh I can’t tell you how many times I poked myself in the eyewith that brush. I hate those new brushes anyway:(
My falsh lash formula is Maybelline Colossal Lash + Maybelline Lash Stiletto. It makes thick long pretty lashes:)

    • the Muse

ashleigh the brush is huge it’s easy to do right? ugh! I really like maybelle CL myself! amd LS is great 😀 but this just failed miserably for me 🙁

  • Comrade_Garlic

I thought I was the only one that hated this. I tried all 3, the WP, regular and glittery. All smudged and flaked. I poked my eyes with each wand. I think I given up on drugstore mascaras. The only one I like is Maybelline Cat Eyes or whatever it’s called, but that’s an Asia only one. They have the best mascaras in Asia.

    • the Muse

comrade I didn’t even know there WAS a glittery formula lol! the wand is huge and just too much for me. I agree Asia does indeed have the best mascara I dunno what I would do if I didn’t have my Beaute de Kose and MJ mascara!

  • Angie

Hey Muse, what’s your fave mascara…or or top 3 or so? Mine are (in order) 1. Diorshow 2. L’oreal Voluminous 3. Bobbi Brown Lash Glamour

    • the Muse

mmmm angie. in no particular order Armani Eyes to Kill, Majorca Majolica Lash Extender/Expander, Beaute de Kose Volumizing Mascara ooo and it’s a hot mess but I kinda like smashbox dna

  • Daituf

    Oh Muse… you are hilarious…
I don’t know how you come up with such clever and witty ways to describe a mascara! But it sure keeps me entertained! 😀
I was debating whether to try this for the LONGEST time! Since I can’t justify buying ANOTHER mascara…but all that hype…you know…
Thank god for this review! I can finally put it out of my mind, and keep the money in my wallet… Thanks Muse!

    • the Muse

lol daituf well at least I’m not completely silly and made one person laugh today. I fancy myself a comedian that no one laughs at hehe!

I dunno it’s not for me daituf but people are saying the regular version is well worth it so your money may not be completely safe if I review and love the original formula LOL!

  • laura r

Musey- as others have said, the WP version is nothing like the regular (except for the brush, natch). But i’m proud of you for trying it regardless.

@Zelle, i just bought Maybelline XXL Extensions on sale- it’s a two-step mascara but holy crap, it’s got the length! maybe you’d like that one.

  • daisy

good to know! i have too many mascaras lying at the bottom of my makeup graveyard too. btw, what’s your fav mascara as of late? im looking for something fab that i wanna have children with too! :p i have short not-thick-but-not-sparse lashes. any recommendations? 🙂

  • Ceriene

    Never tried Lashblast because it’s lack of availability here in Beijing, but after hearing this review, I think I’ll stick with my Imju Fibrewig. 😀 I’m in love with it at the moment. Though after reading your Armani mascara review, I’m tempted to try it. ><;

    • the Muse

ceriene I could NEVER get on the fibrewig bandwagon! it always feels like I have something in my eye when I use it 😀 The armani=LOVE!

  • GISSELLE

    Hi 🙂
I absolutely ABHOR this mascarra! I was beginning to think I was a moron because I have stabbed myself twice already with this monstrosity of a wand. i seriously do not know what all the hype is about.
Love your blog by the way, have been a long time lurker 🙂 I just never posted anything before.
Keep up the good work. 🙂

    Your fellow New Yorker
    Gigi

    • the Muse

LOL I have too gigi the applicator is like a club 😀 Peeps are saying regular version is better..for me I didn’t likey 🙁

Aw thanks hun! Appreciate the lovely comment!!!! Hope you’ll come out of lurkdom again soon to say hi again! 😀 yay NY!

  • xMokaa

    Hi there!
I kind of love/hate this product. It adds more volume to my little asian lashes but since I got the waterproof one, it’s such a pain to remove! Geez. I absolutely agree with you, the applicator is huge! XD Btw, I love your blog! 🙂

    • the Muse

hey xmokaa how are you? Mmm It’s only an ok for me! and damn the applicator is BIG isn’t it? I’d personally never rec it for Asian lashes so it’s good to hear it works on your lashes! I thought it might be a bit messy for asian lashes/eyes!

      Aw thanks hun!

  • Andrika

Ya, you totally got the wrong one. I’ve been using the regular lash blast for over a year now & it has been A-MAZING! but i recently bought the waterproof version & it’s horrible. exactly what you said. definitely try the regular one. same scary brush but totally worth poking your eyes out :p

  • Emmy

    Hi!
First off I just want to say that your website is my new fave! It’s packed with so many goodies I’ll never read all that I want to (if that makes sense).
Anyhoo, quick question: do you, by chance, remember what eyeshadow you used in the “After” pic? I realllyyyyy love it!
    -Thanks!

    • the Muse

hi emmy thanks so much hugs! 😀 I can’t remember tbh 🙁 I’m sorry. I look a look but no idea what the shadow in the pic is sadly!

  • Shazia

I don’t know if you check this post anymore but this is the 2nd time within the past year that I’ve tried CG LashBlast (orange tube) only to be let down AGAIN.

My lashes get some volume but not enough to go wow about. If you don’t dab the wand with a tissue before applying, it clumps up like crazy. Also, my lashes looked “smaller” if that makes any sense (it probably doesn’t). To make matters worse, the ends of my lashes do not have a nice pointed look but a spikey look in which the ends looked FORKED (split in two). It’s like your eyelashes have split ends!

I tried the Fusion too, and that was a major letdown too. It’s like the orange tube but only worse in that it provides less volume. There was barely any difference in length either between Fusion and the orange tube.

Both of these versions have a bizarre trait. The first time you try them, they look incredible – long, full, defined, curled lashes. That is the ONLY time they look good. The next time you try it (and every other time after that), it looks like crap. I don’t get why the mascara looked good the first time then blew after all that.
