MAC Studio Fix Mascara Review

Oh my god we should throw a party for MAC! They finally got mascara right! I love you MAC but your mascaras aren’t always so good, don’t be mad k?

Does anyone feel like MAC excels in the realms of makeup but a simple a thing as mascara and they just don’t rock it as well as you’d like? I always leave off feeling kinda let down anytime I use a new MAC mascara, le sigh.

But…

GOOD news!

MAC Studio Fix Mascara, likey, hot stuff!

Check it!

Probably the best thing about MAC is how affordable it is right? That’s always my mentality when it comes to MAC. You can count on it as a brand to give you awesome quality for fraction of the cost. Seriously, MAC sports price tags that are easily duped at your local drugstore in some cases, only difference is with that price you get the quality you so richly deserve.

At $13 MAC Studio Fix Mascara sports a great price tag in my humble opinion plus a fabulous formula, yes this time MAC gets mascara right. Now mind you this isn’t my HG (holy grail) mascara by any means but it does what it promises, it’s affordable, and it performs solidly. If you’re on the market for an affordable mascara this might be a path you’ll want to explore.

The applicator is a small spiked plastic wand which doesn’t do much for curl but does achieve great lenght. My suggestion, whip your curler out, go to town, and than use this, you’ll be looking fab in no time at all. The formula is extremely black and richly pigmented but manages to be light on and doesn’t create sticky, heavy lashes.

It actually quite reminds of me of Cover Lashblast in some ways but doesn’t sport the stupid big applicator but a smaller version. It defines lashes very well, catches all of them and pulls upwards offering nice lenght.

Overall, I’d say, for the price, it’s worthy of a haul and a try out. It performs very well but of course it would be better if it curled a little but hey lenght is one of my top priorities so I don’t mind doing the extra leg work with my curler to achieve a nice curl prior to use.

Likey lots.

Anyone try out MAC Studio Fix Mascara yet?

Wanting to?

Meh…..doesn’t look any different at all, maybe a little clumpier after application.

      • Paloma

No, your pictures were fine…I just realized it was supposed to just lift them upward, and I see that…..when are they ever going to have a mascara that does it all? lol

        • the Muse

aw cool paloma! I suck at close up shots like this! I never get them right so my eye always looks SCARYYYYYYYYYYYY haha! god yes, I wish. Please can we have the Cadillac of all mascaras now? curl, lengthen, volumize, wash my dishes hehe!

    • nicole

I agree their mascara is just not “all that” I am Maybellie mascara and eyeliner girl

  • Tina Matuchniak

Most definitely. I think MAC has the market on eye shadow and lip glass, but the rest of its products . . . eh.

    • the Muse

agreed Tina! I’m not much for their skincare, like their cleansers though, and not much on their foundation and other base products although they are HG to the rest of the world but heck yes lipglass/shadow that’s their game and they play it well!

  • Heather

Wait, are you serious about MAC’s good prices? Aren’t shadows and lipsticks like $22? I so don’t have that kind of cash >:[

    • the Muse

heather yes serious and no mac shadows are $14.50 and lippies are $14…that’s quite a huge savings compared to many brands who price points start at $20. Some lippies at the drugstore set you back $9 for a few dollars more you can get MAC 🙂

oo likey the length ! can i ask what camera you use ? any time i try to take pictures of lashes its never very clear with my camera

only other mascara ive tried was plushlash for some reason its the only mascara ive ever used that i could get it such a mess with it ended up everwhere all the time until it dried out a bit it put me of man mascara but oh mi that lenght is tempting

    • the Muse

hey silver lips what’s up dearling?! 😀 how are you?

I’m loving it too, love the applicator!

  • Melissa

Hi – I have been using this for about a week. I think that I like it quite a bit. It is smudge proof on my allergy eyes. I have short thick blonde lashes. I curled, and applied and had black long lashes. I used it over the urban decay lash primer. It was ok this way too for a little more volume. I saw results with 2 coats by itself or um about 1 and a half if that makes sense over the primer.

  • Heather

Wow… I haven’t heard such good things from a lot of beauty bloggers on their mascaras, but this seems to be a much better formula. Your lashes look gorgeous and it gave incredible length! Thanks for the review!

    • the Muse

heather I hardly ever rave mac mascara but really liked this one 🙂 your most welcome dear!

  • M

Hello there! I’m an ardent follower of your blog and this is my first ever comment. 🙂

Anyway, MAC mascaras have always been misses for me. 😛 I trust my Majorlica Majorca (I literally panic when am out of it). I find that Japanese mascara formulas tend to hold a curl sky-high the whole day. MAC ones make my Asian lashes flop even after curling. 🙁

    • the Muse

      hi m!

thank YOU so much for visiting/following! Thanks for coming out of lurkdom to say hello! 🙂 yup def agreed MOST every mac mascara I’ve tried was a total miss! I panic myself when I am out of MJ, it’s my HG 😀 I think formula wise most brands here would be a tad too rich for asian lashes imho! so it’s understandable 🙂 did you see MJ updated it’s site with Spring 2010 today!? Very cute story 🙂

  • Petra

I envy You guys in the US, here MAC is a lot more expensive… Cheaper than YSL or Chanel, but not by much..(well, actually an eyequad is pretty close in it’s price tag, but th lippies are about half the price). I’d say MAC is about double price of a DS item like L’oreal, but that’s reasonable i guess, if it does perform better…(wow, I ramble a lot!)

  • Janet

Ooooh, the after pic looks great. I’m going to have to check this out. I’m a huge mac lover but I’ve never tried mascaras because their reviews haven’t been stellar. They may have turned a corner on this one. Thanks for the review.

    • the Muse

my pleasure janet feel the same way about mac mascaras but this one did a great job 🙂

  • annie

Hello! I devoutly follow your website! (: Can I just ask you what your HG mascara is? I’ve seen so many reviews on mascaras and I take all of your thoughts into consideration when I go out for a new mascara, but what is your favorite?

Thanks! And keep up the great work!

    • the Muse

hi annie good to meet you thanks for following/reading 😀 Majorca Majolica is def my HG mascara of choice 😀 *hugs*

  • Christy
