My Beauty Diary Cooling Mask Review

My Beauty Diary Cooling Mask 3

Ahhh the Asian sheet mask. Not quite so popular in the US but within Japan, Korea, Etc…sheet masks are all the rage and a common part of an Asian girl’s (or guy) daily skincare regime and cheap as day old chips in most cases. I got a few requests asking if I could review some of my very favorite sheet masks from Asia so I thought I’d go ahead and get some reviews up of ones I love.

My fav of the moment, and of course all the rage with everyone, are from Beauty Diary a Taiwanese brand. My Beauty Diary Masks could prove popular because of their cute design or possibly because they have such a variety of masks to suit all skin types. Whatever the case may be they are some of my favorites at the moment.

Today I’ll be discussing the My Beauty Diary Cooling Mask.

Have a jump for the details!

I actually prefer using the Beauty Diary Cooling Masks in the Summer but since my skin is freaking out after my cycle through with the L’Oreal 360’s, I’ve been using these to keep my face happy.

What is a sheet mask?

Anyone not in the know I’ll give you a brief run down.

Sheet Masks are simply a piece of soft cloth cut into a mask design with holes for eyes and mouth. You take the mask and conform it to your face and leave it on for a bit…I leave them on 30 minutes sometimes even 60. Each mask is saturated with a special solution to combat any number of problems depending on the mask you use. Fine lines, dry skin, whitening, dullness, etc…each mask has a specific formula. Masks from Asia are generally heavily saturated with solution so it’s a rather relaxing experience to place one on your face, kick back, and just soak it all in. It’s such a treat for your skin as it feels like your face is a sponge, sucking up all the gorgeous moisturizing properties of the mask. In many cases the masks contain a heavy amount of glycerin which makes your face super duper moist, slippery, and generally lovely feeling especially for dry skin folk.

My Beauty Dairy Cooling Masks are, yes you guessed it, cooling. They are literally a chilly experience from start to finish. This particular mask is made for normal skin types and brings skin temperature down. It contains witch hazel to soothe tired skin, menthol and peppermint to cool skin, and other ingredients to soften and hydrate. The overall experience is lovely as it really revitalizes tired skin. Every come home from work on a warm, sunny day and feel like your face is melting? These will completely wake you up and honestly sometimes it doesn’t have to a warm day, sometimes my face and skin is just tired, this refreshes it beautifully.

A box of 10 masks will set you back somewhere in the vicinity of $5-$7 or less in Asia. If you’re wanting to try these I highly suggest getting them from AlphaBeautyUK on E-bay who charges $11.95 and $5.80 shipping. That’s $18 or so for 10 masks which isn’t too badly priced considering how difficult it is to come by Asian sheet masks in the US.

I love these and they def come with a big Muse Approval for purchase.

    I’m a sheet mask fiend!!

I live and die by the “Imperial Herb” line from The Face Shop. I usuallu hit up the NYC location whenever I’m in K-town and stock up! The “Dioscoreae Rhizoma & Jaoanese Cornel” sheets are a lifesaver when it comes to my severe dry patches…and they’re super saturated! A must try if you ask me 🙂

    • the Muse

hey kim! me too! can’t live without 😀 love saturated masks, bring ’em!

  • Hannah

Might want to try Sasa.com since I think its cheaper if you buy more than one box. They have their shipping rate fixed at $6 I think.

  • Audrey

I’m happy to see you review these! I just bought a box of the Bulgarian White Rose (supposedly for brightening the skin) from Sasa and I can’t wait to try them out. Once Sasa gets them back in stock, I want to try the Japanese Cherry Blossom and Mixed Berry masks.

    • the Muse

I love the Rose ones Audrey! They are quite good! 😀 They are all really great, I love they have so much variety, part of the appeal!

  • Jamie

Oh Muse, I love that you’re reviewing Asian brands again! I mean, there’s a huge world of Asian brands out there!

Unfortunately, I wish you had picked up Asian brands again maybe a couple of months sooner…because I was in Hong Kong last month and – get this – held boxes of My Beauty Diary in my hands – retailing at ~$8 CAD each – and didn’t get any! I also browsed the Skin Food store more than once…and only walked away with nail polish! Why did I resist?????

On a side note…one of my fave sheet masks is the Missha Tea Tree mask, which I use for a few days straight every time my skin breaks out. I know you don’t usually have problems with blemishes, but just throwing it out there! =)

    • the Muse

hey Jamie my bathroom has always been taken over with many a product from Asia and for some reason I sadly started focusing on more and more US brands and forgot to show the love for Asia 😀 I’m glad you’re happy to see the reviews back!

damn! that stinks!!!!!!!! grrrr! I hate how people jack up prices here! Sasa carries the line and also this site I mentioned on E-bay so it’s not too bad. OMG a nail polish only!? YAK! 🙂

Missha Tea Tree are part of my Summer regime! I get an oily forehead and these work a treat!

  • Candy

Good choice! I am using it on alternate day basis! You should try their premium face mask as well. I love the moisture contains of the sheet mask!

  • Jean

    Hi Muse,

It’s really interesting to see stuff from Asia in your website! since I’m from China. I haven’t tried it yet, did you get it from the website you mentioned?

    • the Muse

hi jean! Nice to see someone from China on. I get alot of girls from all different parts of Asia, always love talking to them 😀 this one I didn’t get from AlphaBeauty but I have purchased My Beauty Diary in the past from them! 🙂 they ship worldwide! Being in China you must have access to many sheet masks though 🙂

  • Tammy

I’ve never tried the cooling mask myself but of the ones I have tried I definitely love the Q10 one the most because it makes my skin feel softer than silk!
    Which ones are your favs??

    • the Muse

      hey tammy

Q10 masks are always a fav for me too. Fav ones from Beauty Diary are the chocolate, whitening, pearl, and cooling

  • suz

I absolutely love AlphaBeautyUK!! Big Fan of the seller…you can always trust them. I buy a lot of stuff from them and I always get everything like within 7 days…I just got my Kanebo Freshel BB cream from him and I put bought it on the 30th of December!!!! Anyways…side tracked….I’ve bought these masks and absolutely love them…there are so many of them you can try..I never get disappointed really!

    • the Muse

hi suz she’s a bit pricey but sometimes when I fail to find it elsewhere I def use her 😀 Tell me about it, the variety is part of the appeal 🙂

  • Adrian

I use My Beauty Diary masks every week, and I LOVE them! I purchase the variety packs from an Ebay seller. I’ve tried every single one and can’t complain about any of them- they are amazing. My skin absolutely glows the next day. It’s a wonderful way to treat your skin and relax your mind and body at the same time. It takes a little getting used to at first, and you look a wee bit scary with it on, but it’s completely worth it.

    • the Muse

hey Adrian they are part of my daily skincare regime too! I do the variety pack as well 😀 they had an LE one I hauled a little bit ago! LOL yes 😀 they are kinda strange looking on haha! glad you are enjoying these, they are my personal favs!

  • shu

yup… definitely a sheet mask lover too~ saves me the hassle of applying and removing with water or wet cotton wool or even peeling. just slap it on your face… lie down, relax, doze for 15-20 mins… and woo la la… see the wonder…
i always use a sheet mask whenever i have a major event to attend which i have to apply full make up, use the sheet mask to moisturise your face and you’ll find applying the foundation much easier…
use the leftover essence for your neck, arms, legs etc etc…. 1 mask for the whole body… what’s not to love about it…. hahaah

    • the Muse

me too shu! 😀 I sometimes go 60 mins with one 😀 I’m wearing one now haha!

I use the extra on my elbows and knees 😀

I agree what’s not to adore!

  • Christine

    Hi Muse!

I’m so glad you reviewed these — I tried them out when I went to Taiwan several months ago, and love them, too! Really wish Asian products could be more easily accessible in the U.S. It just makes my wish list longer each time I go back to Asia :p

    • the Muse

I agree Christine it would be so nice to get things locally at retail price 😀 Hehe you’ll need another suitcase before you know it!

  • mayaari

I’m a big fan of the MBD masks as well – I think Yogurt is one of my favorites to just soothe my skin, but if I need my skin to look a little brighter, I like using the Mixed Berries and Sake Yeast. I still need to try a lot of the other masks to see which ones I like/work for me, but I can see why this one looks like a good way to cool off after a hot day in the summer!

    • the Muse

hi may! I like the yogurt myself but the whitening ones are my fav 😀 Yes very much so! They are ideal for Summer 😀 totally brings your skin temp down!

  • Bex

I take it Alphabeauty are reputable as there are so many fakes of these on the market its scary?

    • the Muse

hi bex I can’t speak for how reputable AlphaBeauty is or not. I’m not affiliated with the seller nor do I have access to their stock or anything like that so I can’t say whether the product is fake or not. In my experience from purchasing at the store I’ve always received my products in a timely manner and they were fresh and not fake as far as I know however do not order from them if you are wary. As I said I’m not affiliated with the store and can only speak from personal purchases I’ve made from them but you can never be too safe. The masks have the proper serial codes on both the back of each package and the “raised” serial on the front but…fakes are good so you can never be too careful as I said. Hope this helps!

Sasa sells the line as well which is a large well known drugstore.

      • Bex

cool thanks – makes me feel better now knowing I can find real ones woohoo!!

        • the Muse

bex the beauty diary fake scare was pretty serious so I can’t really blame you for being extra safe hun!

    • the Muse

hey K yup 😀 I just like Alpha b/c it ships a bit faster than Sasa hehe. I got two LE variety packs but I’m saddened that those are difficult to find as I do like to switch up which I use 😀

  • aretha

ooohh good choice! i like this mask alot too 🙂 it make your skin look so amazing doesnt it? 😉

  • Jasmine

    Hi Muse,

Sheet masks are -almost- my nightly routine before night moisturizer! I have a whitening one on my neck right now, because I’ve been putting sunscreen on my face and neglecting my neck … it’s 2 shades darker, urgh.

My Beauty Diary masks are o.k. but the FANTASTIC and cheap ones are *really* from Silk Whitia! SANA’s Namerakahonpo sheet mask is really good for the dry cracked winter skin too.

I feel that generally, Taiwanese masks are cheap and average, Korean masks are loaded with alcohol (The Face Shop! How could you!), Japanese masks are steep but well worth the money … but I don’t know what I’m rambling about, cosmetic geography?

    • the Muse

hey jasmine me too! It’s one of the first things I do at the end of the night 😀 I do whitening ones too myself, those are my fav ones. lol that happens to me!

I like the Silk Whitia ones as well I actually gave them up for my beauty dairy 😀 Sana’s Namerakahonpo are absolutely awesome as well, agreed!

Korean masks are INDEED loaded with alcohol! Some bother me some don’t..the ones from Etude House are saturated in alcohol but thankfully no dryness after use! LOL no it’s fun discussing the different ones!

  • Nancy

Hi Muse! Thank you for sharing this review–I definitely want to check out the Cooling mask!! I recently purchased the My Beauty Diary Aloe Mask from sasa.com and I love it!! It’s so relaxing and fun doing one of these masks and my face feels so soft afterward. I’ll definitely be purchasing the Cooling mask next!

    • the Muse

      hi nancy!

awesome so glad you enjoyed the review and have tried Beauty Diary! 😀 they are fab aren’t they? a truly relaxing experience plus the benefit of super soft skin yay!

  • Nia

Up to now I was not a too big fan of the sheet masks, except when it came to amusing the boyfriend 😉 I just tried the one from Estee Lauder and it did not do a whole lot.
But I will check them out, they sound yummy 🙂

    • the Muse

lol nia they are a good way to amuse LOL! 😀 These are quite lovely NIa 😀

  • Nia

So, after all the positive comments I have in and ordered the box with all the different mask to sample. Very curious if my picky skin likes them 🙂

    • the Muse

w00t nia you’re not a proud member of the beauty diary fan club! You can pick up your membership card at the front desk!

Come back and tell us the word, curious what you will think.!

  • su-pah

    Hey Muse!

I have tried this mask and it dried my skin out, I’ve also tried the chocolate one and that kind of doesn’t moisturise my skin at all. Luckily, it doesn’t dry it out like this cooling mask. I know this cooling mask contains witch hazel, so maybe that’s why it dries it.

I have been after the Bulgarian Rose and Cherry Blossom ones of these for ages – always OOS on Sasa, so got them same price from Yesstyle’s beauty section. As in the 10 packs for $18.

The best sheet masks for my normal-dry skin are Kanebo Hadabisei masks! Omg! Best – soooo luxurious and moisturising!! You can get them from Sasa too and they’re actually cheaper.

    • the Muse

ugh sorry to hear it su-pah! 🙁 I love the chocolate 😀 it really makes my skin look fresh! Sorry these didn’t work out for you! It prob is the wh causing the dryness!

I love the BR and CB as well, they are awesome. Kanebo Hadabisei are really good! I agree quite saturated as well too! 😀 most of the kanebo sheet masks are always really fabs and cheap as heck!

    • the Muse

I dunno Christy. They are prob available in some Korean Shops but unsure where. Check Sasa as Sasa does carry the line. I’m in New York so not sure what is or isn’t carried in DS’s in Korea. I’m familiar with counter Korean cosmetics but not so much about where to buy things within Korean.

Hi there again! I just got a few fake ones, but not all and it’s the reason why I only bought quite a few only, from a few unauthorized dealers at my local Asian malls for a cheap price, but I don’t really mind unless I’m paying a lot of money for only one product, like a BB cream, then I do…lol…=( But then again, I would have been more pissed if I ordered it from an unauthorized dealer on Ebay or on whatever site and then ended up getting fake ones only because I had to wait for them to ship them to me…lol 🙁 Anyhow, out of all of the other ones from different brands that I’ve tried so far, I personally LOVE this “White Smooth Face Mask” by “Regene”, since for me, I have EXTREMELY dry and dehydrated skin and that only facial paper masks have worked for me in moisturizing and hydrating my skin, so this brand works like WONDERS for me, since it whitens and hydrates my skin, which lasts for a WHOLE ENTIRE month, even WITHOUT any moisturizers or ANYTHING, only because I’ve tried every single drugstore brand out there but they absolutely don’t do anything, and EVEN starting from after washing it all off the next day! =D But as for this brand, I feel like it doesn’t really do much to my skin for some reason…=(

  • i.enjoy

I tried the mask yesterday at night and I wish I had read your review before. My face was frozen (winter in Europe) and so were my hands because I rubbed some of the extra serum on them. It is indeed a mask for summer. I liked it though, because my skin felt really refreshed after using it and the redness caused by the cold wind on my face disappeared.

By the way your reviews are great !

    • Isabella Muse

aw thanks enjoy glad you like my reviews 😀 def save this one for the Summer haha!
