Beauty on a Budget: NYX Eyeshadow Base

You may be using MAC Paint Pots at the moment or perhaps an expensive primer to keep your shadows in place OR maybe you can’t really afford to dish out for either at the moment.

No worries.

Got $6 bucks?

Check out NYX Eyeshadow Base.

Jump!

NYX Eyeshadow Base comes in three separate formulas for prepping, priming, and intensifying eye shadow plus they are only $6 bucks each. Likey!

NYX Eye Shadow base grabs and firmly holds eyeshadows and pigments in a snap. Created in three formulas this base is super friendly on your wallet.

White intensifies color, deepens it, and creates a more vibrant appearance.

Pearl gives a pearl, iridescent finish to shadows.

Skin Tone works at prepping, priming, and concealing lids all while keeping your shadow long wearing.

I haven’t tried ’em myself but count me curious.

I do want a review! I would love to know how these compare to TFSI & UDPP Eden. Yes, I’m cheating on TFSI with UDPP Eden and loving Eden. I hate the packaging, HATE HATE HATE it, but I love the no creasing and the concealing.

    • the Muse

hey dd! def gonna review, it sounds interesting. OMG so glad you love eden!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Me too!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😀

If they’re anything like the NYX Jumbo Eye Pencils then I think I might pass cuz no matter how little I put on my lid the eyeshadow always creases on my oily eyelid. But I guess I have to buy it in order to find out.

      hey diana!

I never tried those jumbo pencils….I guess it def depends 🙂 I haven’t tried yet so no way of knowing if it creases or not.

Hi Muse, I’ve been a lurker of your site for the longest time hehe. I use this eyeshadow base (Skin tone) – for those who want to try it, manage your expectations. It’s a shadow base – not a primer. This won’t replace your UDPP period. It’s more like a corrector/concealer for the lid area of the eye; it brightens up the area but it does nothing in making your shadows pop or making them last longer. If you have oily lids like mine, apply sparingly and even if you do, signs of crease begin to appear on the 3rd or 4th hour (some shadows crease faster than others). Compared to the jumbo eyeshadow pencil (I tried Milk) as base, they have the same lifespan before you see signs of creasing. To make your shadows pop maybe use the white one over a more reliable primer (which is redundant as e/s primers do that anyway); for Skintone which is what I have – as a corrector, a little goes a long way. Girls with oily lids like mine, I’d say this is a skip

      hi jane!

Good to meet you 🙂 I’m so glad you commented 🙂 Thanks for the review!!!!!!! It’s truly helpful to both me and everyone else 😀 They sounds interesting. I know alot of folks love prepping and priming with mac paint pots so this seemed a nice inexpensive find! Sorry to hear though they aren’t so fab for oily lids le sigh 🙁

well, considering that NYX is a very good brand that’s sorely underrated, i would be willing to bet my money that those will be good, at least the skin toned one 🙂

    • the Muse

pau agreed, NYX doesn’t get much recognition and they have really nice stuff, I like the skin toned one myself 😀

  • Zoffe

I’ve looked at these before, but after reading the reviews on MakeupAlley I’m not sure I want to spend money on trying it – even if it’s just $6 :/

    Hi Muse,

I would love to see a review of this! They sound really interesting and inexpensive!

FYI: I subscribe and when I click to see a post it doesn’t load properly. It says the headline and nothing else. Just wanted to let you know.

    • the Muse

hi nes! I’m gonna try and snag ’em and see how they are for sure 😀

That’s weird…via email or via feed?

  • Kristina

I hate things that come in pots. Germ factor aside, product always gets under my nails. Annoying and wasteful!

  • Fembot

    Hey Musie,

I bought the white base when Cherry Couture was having their 20% of Valentine’s Day sale. I was very excited about having a white primer to help my colors !pop!

the verdict? It’s definitely not going to replace my MAC paintpots in the near future. It’s OK. I’d say if it’s your first primer it might wow you, but if you’re a seasoned makeup aficionado it’s probably a pass. The price is right, but the formula is kinda wrong. I think it’s too dry and not pigmented enough for me. I expected the white to come out as opaque as the MILK jumbo pencil, but no luck.

    • the Muse

hey fembot! how are you dear? Awwww sounds like a no go the verdict seems to point to def no likeys all around! I guess it’s mac paint pots for me 😀 skip on these hehe! even if it’s cheap, it’s just not worth it if it doesn’t work!
