Etude House Cleansing Dream Cleansing Oil Review

After my fiasco with toilet paper smelling cleanser from Etude House I was feeling ever so scared to crack open my bottle of Etude House Cleansing Dream Cleansing Oil.

Would it smell like toilet paper too?

God please no!

Jump!

Safe! No eau de toilet paper scent here guys! Thank GAWD! I’ve become completely and totally wary of trying anything from Etude House’s cleanser range because of that god awful scent.

Little recap for those not yet in the know….

Etude House is a range of makeup, skincare, and beauty bits and bobs sold within Korea and a few other select Asian countries. Since my original review on Etude House products they have since branched out to several other countries, exciting as I’m ever so hopeful they might consider the US market one day.

More news in the recap world…..

If you’re not using a cleansing oil to get your makeup off you’re seriously missing out on one of the makeup world’s greatest joys. It’s a simple, effective way to get EVERYTHING off in one single step! Simply pump out a few squirts of oil, massage onto your dry, makeup laden face, wet your hands and massage a bit more to emulsify the oil, and rinse. Done, gets it all off in one go.

Now good oils will attack waterproof mascara, eyeliner, eye makeup etc…as well as foundation, blush, etc…on the spot. Etude House Cleansing Dream Cleansing Oil does a good job of cleaning but it’s not as effective as I’d like on eye makeup.

In keeping with Etude House’s girlish packaging theme, the oil comes housed in a clear pink bottle with a landscape featuring an Etude House shop. Quite cute packaging, very pretty and worthy of display on your bathroom vanity.

The oil has a nice thick consistency that washes clean away and thankfully does NOT sport a toilet paper scent. It’s a bit citrus and very fresh smelling, nothing cloying or as overwhelming as I’m used to from other Etude House cleansers. It washes makeup away beautifully but it’s not as effective on waterproof product such as mascara. In this case I suggest using an eye makeup remover prior to going in for your cleanse, I always do anyway so it’s no great chore for me.

If you’re looking for a quick, simple way to get off makeup in a flash I’d recommend picking this up. Sadly, I’ve seen it online jacked up to $28 per a bottle which is way above retail cost. If I come across it selling anywhere cheaper I’ll definitely update this post. If you’re within Asia you can get it at retail which is where I’d recommend a pick up, as it’s worth the price at retail. At the jacked up cost you couldn’t really do better as Shu sells for $35 and $75 so honestly $28 is a discount at a bigger size for the Etude House but it still makes me wince that the original price is no where near $28.

Likey at retail, not worth it at a jacked up price.

christy there isn’t any particular oily meant for oily skin. Most oils are great for ALL skin types.

      Hope this helps!

      Hi Christy,

I’m so NOT the Muse (!) but pardon my butting in here because I have very oily skin and I swear by DHC Cleansing oil. It gets off all my make-up including industrial strength Japanese mascara formulas, but best of all rinses off clean and never breaks me out. I’ve tried lots of cleansing oils but DHC has been my holy grail oil cleanser for 3 years. Give it a try! I hope it works for you.

I just got this and the cleansing water from gmarket about a week ago (*much cheaper than $28, even with shipping) and I really it! I was worried about the smell (after I ordered and before it arrived) because I read your reviews of some other etude house cleansers, but I think this one smells great and the bottle is so pretty (main reason for ordering – lol). Thanks for reviewing so many Asian cosmetics and skincare – it is really helpful for people like me who develop lemmings for hard to find items but don’t want to waste money on lame products!

hey ginny I’m not a fond fan or supporter of gmarket which is why I never mention it as a source for purchasing but good deal you got it for less there! I’m ALWAYS super worried about Etude House cleansers and such as it seems many sport that crazy stale floral scent aka toilet paper 🙂 but this is very nice thank gawd! Don’t be shame, shout it loud, that’s why I wanted it, the pretty bottle 😀 My PLEASURE, I’m so happy you enjoy them!

  • Nikkiz.

Nice to hear you liked it! I haven’t opened my own bottle of EH Cleansing Oil in Light (for those with oily skin) coz I’m finishing up my current one. I got mine for around $11 at the store here in Manila.

  • christine

Hey! I was wondering if this oil works on japanese mascaras (the ones difficult to remove such as majolica majorca ones lol)! Though I hvae tried the happy tea time in milk tea and i love it! (it too has that “toilet paper” scent, I believe, though to me it smells like.. baby?)

    • the Muse

hi christine it’s ok but I’d use an oil based remover first to get off most of the mascara prior to going in for a full clean. LOL damn toilet paper scent 😀 I have the happy tea time peach and love it 😀

  • Jc Li

Which one is better between cleansing oil n cleansing milk? there r so many variations. Makes me confused. N have u tried d cleansing foam of this Dream series?

    • the Muse

hi yes jc I have tried the cleansing foam, its quite good.

      I like cleansing oil best.

  • Mina

I was doing some comfort shopping for not being able to get the venomous villains that I wanted. Part of my haul is is this cleansing oil “light” for oily skin and the cleanser. It’s available at the department stores here in Manila!!! Got this oil based from your review of the “moisture” formula… so far, i am a tad bit comforted. love it! 😀
