My Beauty Diary Brightening Mask Set and My Beauty Diary Brightening Mask Set Review

When I was 12 or so I kept a diary. I remember it was a small pink Hello Kitty Diary with a lock and key. Of course, I wrote everything that was of great import in my life at the time in it. At 12 I imagine it was some serious stuff. When I was 18 or so I recall reading back into it and smiling at the babblings of my 12 year old self. Granted, I had to literally splice open the journal to get inside because lord knows where I put the bloody key and honestly why I wanted to lock away any of those babblings is beyond me.

I’ve since grown up and in some ways my diary has become Musings of a Muse but I guess the closest I get to an actual diary these days are My Beauty Diary Masks.

Jump!

As you know from my past reviews I’m a fond fan of My Beauty Diary Masks. I got quite a few e-mails after my reviews asking after the best masks for brightening and whitening which prompted this post.

Since the line is overwhelming with ALOT of variety it’s sometimes difficult picking the best mask for your skin or the best mask to address your issue. In this case, readers wanted to know the best masks to choose for whitening and brightening skin. This happens to be one of my own main concerns and an easy enough question to answer since I too, want brighter, whiter skin and an escape from dullness brought on by age, the weather, free radicals, etc…..In this case I recommend trying out two packs from My Beauty Diary.

My Beauty Diary Whitening Mask Set contains a total of 13 sheets with four varieties of masks for whitening skin. You’ll get the following masks:

  • 4 x My Beauty Diary Japanese Cherry Blossom Masks

A mask that whitens and refreshes. Japanese Somei-Yoshino Cherry Extract whitens, soothes and firms. Blended with Extracts of Lemon and Kiwi, it refreshes and softens skin. Soaked in thread of Sakura aroma, skin appears whiter. Extracts of Arnica and Aloe soothe, repair and nourish skin. After use, skin glows with freshness.

  • 4 x My Beauty Diary Black Pearl Masks

Whitens skin and restores elasticity for skin. Good for all skin types but particularly for dull skin in need of hydration. Ultimate whitening complex composed of black pearl extracts which is a beauty ingredient containing amino acid. Blended with marine and botanical essences, it activates skins natural hydrating and whitening mechanism, leaving skin silky and radiant. Natural vitamin C extracted from pineapple, rum and cucumber boosts metabolism and removes dead skin for fine, refresh, moist and whiten skin. Deep nourishment restores skins elasticity. Skin is revitalized after use.

  • 4 x My Beauty Diary Red Vine Masks

Whitens, tightens skin and fights against oxidization. Contains polyphenols in Flavonoid serves as an effective antioxidant to fight against free radicals.

  • 1 x My Beauty Diary White Peony Tea Mask

Formulated with White Peony Tea Leaf Extract, Peony Essence and Arbutin to maintain healthy, translucent and white skin.

On some levels brightening could be considered the same as whitening or can be treated in a similar fashion. For me it’s two different things. In cases of whitening I want my skin to look whiter, smoother where as brightening I’m looking to erase dullness and signs of fatigue.

My Beauty Diary Brightening Mask Set also contains 13 sheet masks but addresses the concern of brightening dull, tired skin versus whitening skin. Particularly great for tired, dull, dehydrated skin. You’ll get the following masks with this set:

  • 4 x My Beauty Diary Aloe Mask

Provides extreme hydration to dry skin. Repairs skin with natural aloe extracts and contains various vitamins which provide moisture and nourishment. Rose essence is contained to repair dry and rough skin. Revitalizes with seaweed-yeast complex containing rich amino acid and microelements to nourish skin.

  • 4 x My Beauty Diary Bulgarian White Rose Mask

Contains Bulgarian White Rose hydrosol, it soothes and hydrates tired skin. Blended with licorice and kiwi essence, it whitens and nourishes skin, for bright, fine, and whiter skin.

  • 4 x My Beauty Diary Natto Mask

Enriched with Natto extract, which contains isoflavones to prevent formation of free radicals, reducing the appearance of all signs of aging, such as wrinkles, dulness, etc…

1 x My Beauty Diary Platinum Nanocolloid Mask
Hydrates, whitens skin while reducing the appearance of lines.

Each set features a variety of masks for treating dull, lackluster skin in need of extra hydration. Any skin type can use these but those with dull skin will experience the best results. Don’t be worried or scared of trying a whitening mask as it’s not going to take your skin tone down on any visible level but it will create a more fresher appearance for those with tired, drawn out skin. I particularly love the “themed” collections from My Beauty Diary as they address a single issue but with multiply masks to choose from to address the issue. Box sets are $16 on Sasa and come with 13 masks which breaks them down to around $1.23 or so per a mask. A dollar and change for the mask isn’t a bad deal at all as you will see visible results which the masks particularly if you’ve never used sheet masks before.

What is a sheet mask?

It’s a heavily saturated mask which shapes to your face like a mask with holes cut out for nose, eyes, etc….you’ll leave the mask on anywhere from 15 minutes to an entire hour if you want. I normally leave them on 60 minutes so all the wonderful essence is soaked up by my skin.

If you’re looking for a solution for your dull skin I highly suggest trying out the Brightening and Whitening range from My Beauty Diary.

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. You know how much I love ’em black pearl masks, they calm down any redness I have, evens out my skin and I am now pretty much break out free.
I should ask for a sponsorship from them seriously xD.
It think it’s responsible for my skin going 5 shades lighter, seeing as I used to be a NC25 during winters but am now a NC20.
The Nanocolloid one breaks me out slightly tho, my skin is too cheap for it lol.
    How was ur weekend Musey?

    • the Muse

hey nunu black pearls=AWESOME! 😀 lol me too as I seriously love MBD! lol your skin is too cheap for it? that’s a 1st LOL! I blame my sleep mask for my skin going down a tone or three 😀 god bless it!

Greattttttttttttttttttttttttttttt! Much needed too! how was yours!? do anything special!?

  • Mythy

I bought some masks from this one ebay seller: instore_2009. The masks are FAKE. I’ve compared them from the authentic ones I have and the smell+packaging are different. Maybe you can make a blog entry about fake masks to warn the other ladies to be careful 😐

    • the Muse

hey mythy that’s why I always rec sasa as you know they are original. I also always tell readers to be aware when purchasing! 🙁 Sorry to hear about your fake masks dear!

      • Mythy

Ah it’s ok. I was sort of feeling it’d be fake because the price was so cheap. I took a gamble still tho thinking I might get a super deal heh. I got my first set from alphabeautyuk as you suggested before ^^

        • the Muse

hey mythy in my experience alpha has real masks as his have the serial number that embossed on each packet. It’s hard to tell fake from real in all honestly aside from minor differences but the embossed serial def gives it away every time 😀 Get from alpha or from Sasa to save yourself the problem of black market masks 😀

It’s surreal that something as cheap as a face mask is fake but it’s done!

  • Iris

    Hey Izzy,
I’ve been meaning to try these forever! How often do you use them? And do you think they are better than those cheapo Japanese sheet masks? Thanks!

    • the Muse

hey Iris!!!!!!! how are you my dear friend? *hugs* Much better than cheaper Japanese sheet masks imho! I actually use ’em at least 5 days out of the week or sometimes more. It’s prob total overkill but they make my skill so great the morning after, I’m kinda addicted. Plus they aren’t so expensive that I’m wasting money by using so often 😀

  • knownever

I’m always suspicious of skincare that promises to “whiten” skin. Brighten, even out, even youth-ify I’m fine with, but whitening products have so much historical baggage.

    • the Muse

mmm I suppose there is alot of baggage that comes with whitening knownever 😀 true. I always buy into it anyway lol!

  • jonnie

I used my first MBD mask tonight… it was the natto one, and holy cow did my face look awesome when I took it off! I don’t know how long I left it on… I updated my money file and folded a bunch of laundry and then it was starting to kind of fall off my face. But yeah, wow! 🙂

I did look pretty scary with the mask actually on though. 😛

    • the Muse

lol tell me ’bout it jonnie same here, I always look ghostly with one on! boo! 😀 But man they work wonders so glad you’re enjoying 🙂

  • Karen

Hi, you’re confusing me! What’s the difference between them both? Think one of them should be the Whitening set? You listed both as Brightening.

    • the Muse

all corrected Karen. Sorry, it’s been known to happen, an error here or there 😀 apologies!

  • Ally_D

Muse, would I have to lock myself away whilst wearing this so I don’t frighten husband? He’ll probably think it’s Hallowe’en. I know it’s stupid but this is actually the only thing stopping me from trying them. He can’t hide a smirk when I’m wearing a cream mask let alone one of these…

Oh also, how often do you use them? How many weeks does a box of 13 last you? Thanks

    • the Muse

LOL Ally yes it’s probably best 😀 lol! You will look kinda Michael Myers like sporting these 😀 I use ’em at least five times a week but you don’t need to go that crazy….three times a week or less if you want to savor them 😀 A box of 13 will last me about two to three weeks 😀

      hope this helps!

  • Vonvon

These 2 sets are very good and handy.

My favorite so far is the Mixed Berries masks which give instant firming and brightening effect. Love the Platinum Nanocolloid too. Pearl mask is very wet and hydrating. and my sis just bought me 2 boxes of 15 different masks each from HK……yay!! can try out more variants of the MBD masks!

    • the Muse

hey vonvon yes! 😀 nice variety 😀 I really like the mixed berries too, the scent is yum! YAY! those 15 packs are the awesome! Great variety 😀

I’m about to get some Chocolate Cherry via mail, awaiting them eagerly 🙂

    • the Muse

no shanti I’ve heard they aren’t agreeable with sensitive skin types!

  • Dawn

My favorite of the MBD masks has to be the Strawberry Yoghurt mask. Its moisturises and whitens my skin leaving it really smooth and fair!
They’ve got 2 fairly new flavors(or rather I think its new) in the market..Southern France Apricot mask for deep hydration and Bird’s Nest for intense whitening.Haven’t tried the bird’s nest mask but I love the apricot mask cause its really moisturising and smells awesome!

    • the Muse

mmm I have the two new ones Dawn and love ’em. Bird Nest is a fav at the moment!

  • dhaaaa
