Sneak Peek: MAC Riveting Photos and Review

I was born in the ahem…err…the 70’s. So technically my age of music fell into the 90’s as these were my teen/tween years but like most things in my life, my taste in music was and still is as unconventional as all hell. My sister was an 80’s child and from her I learned to appreciate some great one hit wonders from the early and late 80’s, this was music at it’s best. I was probably six when I developed my first crush on Robert Smith and it’s carried through many a year, thank you 1980’s.

Mind you Robert circa 1980’s was fantastic but not so much when you jump forward over 20 years….it’s ok though, I’ll take him anyway I can get him.

The new MAC Riveting Collection hits the shelf in a few weeks and brings about that retro 80’s glam feel for me with a bit of rock n’ roll thrown in for good measure.

Not everyone can pull off MAC Riveting but I imagine half of us are going to have a bloody great time trying.

Jump for a sneak peek of MAC Riveting!

I’m unable to pull off most of what MAC Riveting offers but some of it is interesting to say the least. I got an early look at the collection and think it might appeal to those who aren’t scared of louder shades of impacting color.

Blushes in Dirty Plum and Full Fuchsia are both interesting shades of color. Dirty Plum is a deep purple plum where as Full Fuchsia is a popping neon shade of full on fuchsia. With a light hand and plenty of blending you can easily work with these. Darker skin chicklets can take full advantage of such bright shades.

MAC Lipglass in Rock Out is a light silver which not everyone is going to be able to pull off. Gunmetal gray lip gloss was never really my thing. Complete opposite shade, True Babe, is a pop of very bright neon fuchsia. Workable for anyone that likes louder shades of gloss.

MAC Lipstick in Riveting, taking it’s namesake from the collection, is a dirty taupe which will appeal to anyone who likes a nude a lip. Bit frosty looking to me but it is a glaze finish. Screams mod 60’s but wriggles it’s way into the 80’s with a slash of Dirty Plum Blush on cheeks.

And finally three new nail lacquers in Studded (silver with pearl), Wham, Bam, Glam (dark taupe), and Black Enough? (matte black). Absolutely love the idea of a french with Black Enough and Studded….is that weird? I think it would look hot.

Riveting isn’t my favorite collection by any means as I can’t pull off most of it’s offerings but it’s interesting to say the least.

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. • Michelle (Lipstick Rules)

I’m also a child of the 70’s and my formative years were in the 80s. I am not sure anything from this collection grabs me but then again, that’s what I always say… LOL

    • the Muse

hey michelle I always feel like I need to head in store before deciding completely so I can see the product so I know what you mean….perhaps yes perhaps no has to be swatched and played with before deciding 😀

    • the Muse

heather not sure if you’re really fair you might wanna skip as it might look a bit dirty on your face or garish. I tried it last night and it was a little scary 🙂

  • sizbelle

i would give the gloss (too bling) and lipstick (too dark for spring i think) a miss. But tempted to try out their blush esp the full fuchsia for a barbie look maybe.

    • the Muse

sizbelle great idea! Barbie look would be awesome 😀 It’s BRIGHT but can easily be toned down with a careful hand!

  • Zerin

Thanks for the post. I’m actually liking the dark taupe brown nailpolish! I must get it when it’s out.

  • Norlyn

I can only afford one MAC collection this season… no wait… month, so I’m skipping this. I’m not a huge fan of the colors anyway. Leaving this collection in stores.

    • the Muse

hey norlyn it’s def not for everyone…damn you had me worried one per a season~!? 😀 one per a month sounds better hehehe!

  • MC

I’m going to pass on this MAC collection. I gave up corpse lips back in 11th grade and everything is something I may have in my collection of cosmetics.

      • MC

That lipstick just screams corpse lips to me. I had a Hard Candy lipstick very similar to it back in my goth days. The taupey nail polish looks interesting, but I don’t think I can carry it off. I love the bright pinks, but I have a lot of bright pink already.

  • Janice

Love the Robert Smith reference. I have to agree, my feelings upon seeing the current Robert Smith are… yikes. But it’s Robert Smith. He could benefit from some concealer!
I’m oddly drawn to that taupe nailpolish. Don’t think I could pull it off though.

    • the Muse

ha janice glad you liked it. I always can’t refrain from thinking that the drugs left Robert and proceeded to say “so long and thanks for all the fish” lol seems it sucked the youth right out of him 🙂

I’m diggin’ the black and silver and I’m not even a nail girl!

  • daisyv316

Wow This is the first collection since, cupcake that has caught my attention ( and I only got perfect topping) in a long time! I am down with the blushes, the bright l/g, maybe the l/s, and the purpleish n/p. FABU!!!

    • the Muse

hey daisy! It’s so interesting to see how folks react to different things 😀 I’m not to into this one but it’s exciting to hear how in lust you are with it 😀

Goes to show ya, different strokes for different folks 🙂

  • Tammy

Love the nail polishes! I’ve done a French mani with matte black and bright silver tips and it was the hotness. You should totally wear it!

    • the Muse

hey silhouette digging on rock out? I dunno if I can pull it off but maybe as it’s pretty subtle 🙂

  • Nia

I like Dirty Plum, but I am afraid I cannot pull it off or only with a lot of work.
The silver gloss looks nice for layering, but I need another gloss like a hole in the head. But I would so wear the bright fuchsia gloss 😀

So you did not like it too much? I’d like to see an image of the French you suggested 🙂

    • the Muse

nia I’m still working on it myself not sure I can do it 😀 makes me look muddy! I HATE silver gloss for some reason so it’s prob one of those glasses that will be tossed aside 😀 not so sure about most of rivetting at this point but def like the french idea 😀 I’ll see what I can arrange but I don’t do nails often, I’m a biter I fear :P!

  • Miss_M

I’m not crazy about this collection to be honest. The only thing that is appealing to me is the Wham, Bam, Glam nailpolish. This collection is gonna save me some money for a change, since Spring Color Forecast is going to make my CC cry for months 🙂

    • the Muse

miss m I’m with you! MAC SS is totally rockin’ my world this not so much:)

  • gio

To be honest, I’m not digging this collection. Most of the shades are so boring imo. The blushes look nice but I don’t think I could pull them off so I’m gonna pass on those too.

    • the Muse

it’s not the best collection in the world, I agree gio. I can’t pull off 99% of it sadly. It has a rocker edge to it which is nice but sadly can’t do 😛

  • gisselle

    Oh Muse

    • the Muse

hey gis! Sorry for the delayed reply 😀 happy bday :-D, early! Tell me ’bout it. Sheesh I still run around thinking I’m 20! LOL! of course!!!!!!!!!! lol trippy as hell 😀

big hugs and early bday wishes dear girl!

  • mochamishmash

The neon fuchsia blush and lipglass look interesting…the rest…meh, for me.

    • the Muse

same here mocha. It was ok but a bit too dank for me! MAC Spring Forecast has my heart at the mom!

  • Tinkerchelle

Good ol’ Fat Bob (as a friend of mine has taken to calling him) may not be rocking the look as well as he used to (does he put his makeup on in a k-hole these days?), but I still love, love, loves him! The Cure is the only band I can think of that always manages to sound better live than recorded. One of my faves! Oh yeah, the riveting collection looks akay too. 😉

    • the Muse

lol chelle..that’s a new one 😀 Poor RS! I think the drugs have taken their toll sadly 😀 me too, I still adore him 😀 and I agree they always sound incredible live 🙂

lol riveting not as great as the Cure 😀

  • Bakeneko

Oh Muse, with every post I love you that little bit more!

The Cure are one of my favourite bands ever. I’m a 70’s baby too – but only just made it a week before 1980!

    • the Muse

aw shucks neko! love ya back! 😀 ha! I had no idea we were so close in age 😀
