Wants ‘Em: Tony Moly Tomatox Brightening Mask And Tony Moly Appletox Smooth Massage Peeling Cream

The Muse was busy having a little brood this morning about the new Tony Moly Skin Peek Masks.

Ok, actually, I admit, I was searching on youTube for Kim Hyung Joong videos and watching his Tony Moly commercials. What? They are SO much classier than Lee Min Ho Etude House commercials.

Scary cat on the shoulder!

Freaking love this spoof! (keep your volume turned down)

And than we have Hyung Joong looking all kinds of hot in the Tony Moly ads.

See? Corny but still Hyung Joong trumps that pink leisure suit any day of the week!

Wait..what was I talking about anyway?

Oh yes! The new Tony Moly Skin Peel Masks!

Check ’em!

Good news, Sasa has ’em both in stock at very close to retail so if you’re having a little lem after my brief babble you can get them for yourself.

Don’t ask me why but it’s pretty popular to slap masks, hand creams, lip balms and the likes into fruit shaped containers in Asia. I’d call it the kawaii-factor as I imagine it sells millions just because it’s “cute”. Particularly Japan, a culture obsessed with cute, has a tendency to do the fruit style packaging alot. And yea, I’ll admit it, the Tonly Moly masks appeal because of the cute fruit and veg packaging…but I’m also liking the sounds of both!

Tony Moly Tomatox Brightening Mask is suitable for all skin types and contains fresh tomato and veggie extracts supposedly. If it does contain antioxidant ingredients chances are it will work at brightening skin tone and erasing dullness. I haven’t tried for myself but interesting in see the results for myself if any.

The mask is a typical cream mask which is applied to a clean, dry face and left on for a few minutes before washing clean.

Tony Moly Appletox Smooth Massage Peeling Cream is a peeling facial containing fresh green apple, papaya, and other veggies to provide moisture to the skin while gently exfoliating old skin away.

It’s a typical gel peel which you’ll use on a dry clean face. It’s a gel formula which you massage on and rinse off.

Both masks sound like they’ll benefit the skin wonderfully plus they are cheap as day old chips at $10 or so dollars. I wants to try. Will bring a review to you when I do indulge.

Have you tried Tony Moly products before?

Love ’em?

Fan of face masks?

Which types?

you can never get enough of Kim Hyung Joong!

Dang it! I was eager to see how you feel about these masks, they are on my watch list on ebay!

I have tried tony moly black sugar scrub but it didn’t phase me much….my skin didn’t feel different after using it..so I went back to my skinfood black sugar scrub.

    • the Muse

oh yes sirrrrrrr suz 😀 never enough HJ! gimme ;-D I’m gonna indulge so def will bring you a review soon doll! I use the Berry Berry Sleep Mask and like it, also the aqua mask is nice 🙂

  • Paul

Yea, I’ve tried both. I’m a Korean guy and they both work really well on both genders. Tony Moly’s products don’t specify gender in terms of their products, with the exception of their natural based berry lipstick. The appletox and tomatox is the latest rage in Korea as this is a Korean company. Actually this company is advertised in a drama called 그대, 웃어요. The red tomatox should not be used everyday. Its recommended use is once or twice per week. The same applies for the appletox. The tomatox supposed to give a glowing effect in the face when you complete your daily facial routine. I also have the berry berry whitening and berry berry wrinkle sleeping cream. They are to be used in conjunction with the tomatox and appletox. I like the berry berry wrinkle cream. Also, their caviar essential line works very well. I have the eye cream remaining now, and it has a nice effect around the eyes. The eye cream is a thicker cream than usual facial creams and therefore gives plenty of moisture around the eyes. Also, let me say this, Tony Moly has some of the best smelling products. I am definitely not a fan of their BB cream however. I generally use either Missha, Dr. Jart, Hanskin or BRTC. The BRTC one needs to mixed in with a moisturizing cream as it can be difficult to apply because it is quite thick. I use Juju’s hyaluronic acid cream with it. Btw, Tony Moly has some great face masks and eye packs. It is generally difficult to get the full line of Tony Moly products in comparison to Missha as the company has just begun to grow. Also, their website is only in Hangul. Another thing to keep in mind is that all these Asian products are much cheaper in their respective countries. During the sale in Myeongdong, Korea in December you were able to get 3 missha bb creams for $15 USD. I picked up my appletox and tomatox both for only $5 each. And they have plenty of packaged sets that can offer you great savings. Sasa is quite expensive in comparison. So if you have any Korean friends that are making a quick trip to Korea, ask them to buy you any of these products in sets. This way if you are planning on giving any out for gifts you’ll be able to save money as well.

    • the Muse

      hey Paul

Great to hear from a guy 😀 Tony Moly def caters to both make and females which is rather fab 🙂 It’s great to hear these two masks are so good. I’m not familiar with the drama you’re talking about but that’s prob b/c I don’t know it’s English name 🙂 I have the Berry Berry Sleeping Mask and the Aqua one and absolutely adore them. I also really like the Tony Moly BB Creams but they are a bit weak compared to others I’ve tried. I’m a bit fan of BRTC, Innisfree, Shills, and Skin79 for my bb’s. So great to hear about the eye cream as I’m obsessed with good eye creams!

Yup I have a friend in Korean who gets me the items as they are very much cheaper in Korea than they are here in the US where they are jacked up to 50% or more in some cases, rather sad really!

Thanks so much for sharing! Great reading your post 😀 Hope we can talk again!

  • tango

Lol, that parody video worked better than coffee for waking me up! You’ve been checking out a lot of masks today! Any chance there’s a drugstore favorite?

    • the Muse

LOL tango! sorry ’bout that 😀 Mmm i know, kinda on a mask kick lately.

  • Audrey

Ahh! I literally JUST made a Sasa order last night! Oh well, I’ll just have to remember these on my next haul. 😛 I want the apple one! I love peeling masks.
I’m curious if you’ve ever tried Shiseido’s Tsubaki shampoo and conditioner. I picked some up on this haul just to see. I have an oily scalp but dry ends so I wonder if it’ll be too rich for my scalp…

    • the Muse

hey audrey you can’t say ‘Oh I did a sasa order last night” and not tell me what you got! LOL! 😀 spill!!!!!!!!! yes but it made my hair a little dry 😛 it’s ok just not fab imho. too many silicons 🙁 silicons and my hair=NOT good

      • Audrey

Nothing too exciting, unfortunately! My boyfriend has been stealing my Naive pomegranate face wash so I ordered one for him in peach, lol. I also got this blackhead peeling mask and a rose hand cream by Pinkey, a box of MBD mixed berry masks (I loved the bulgarian rose ones so I can’t wait to try these) and the Tsubaki shampoo and conditioner. I really hope the Tsubaki works well for me… I know it’s coming from Hong Kong but I wish shipping didn’t take so long! I’m so impatient 😛

        • the Muse

lol audrey 😀 it’s a cheap v-day gift from you to him! 😀 nice hauling!!!!!!!!!!!! You’ll liked the mixed set, very good stuff 😀 I know…grrr! Hate waiting 10 or more days!

  • Christine

I was literally just checking these out online last night! Would LOVE to know what you think of them if you end up buying them! The packaging really is so cute 🙂

    • the Muse

Isn’t it Christine? Adore the packaging! 😀 Def will purchase and review!

      • Christine

        Hey Muse!

I just wanted to let you know that I ended up purchasing both of them, intending to give one away as a gift. But now that I have them – I want to keep them both! The packaging is so adorable!!! It makes me happy just looking at them. I know I’ll have to let one go, since I don’t need so many face products, but I enjoy admiring them while I have them :p Any chance you’ve had a chance to try either of them out yet? I’m slowly making my way into opening up one of them and seeing how they work out for me.

        • the Muse

hey christine! I’m waiting on mine! 😀 can’t wait! I’ll def review for you when they arrive *wink* LOL totally understand the feeling of not wanting to give up a gift LOL!

  • Sandra

Love the Kim Hyun Joong clip! Thanks for the heads up on Korean products =)

  • Tohnia

I definitely want these! I’m hoarding the masks my mom brought back for me from Korea. Love them! And the packaging is just so cute!

    • the Muse

  • su-pah

Ooh, the packaging on those masks! :O

Hahaha… I was honestly fangirling ALL the F4 during the BBF craze, maybe not Kim Bum so much, actually no, he’s cute too.
Whoa… hahaha! Eeeek at the LMH spoof. Still, he’s LMH, he can get away with ANYTHING and still look oh so yummo at the end of it.
You’re right, KHJ is totally looking yum in that ad!
    Must. Buy. Tony. Moly! D’oh!

    • the Muse

su-pah so been through the F4 fan girl realms lol! But damnyummmmmmmmmmmmmm BOF longest dramas ever please jebus can it be any worst than BOF?!?!? I swear that drama was the kick start to ridiculous but I loved every sec of it! ALMOSTTTTTTTTTTT PARADISE! Kim Bum is the mushy one 😀 I’m more a Kim Joon/Hyun Joong girl myself! Who can resist Kim Joon doing his yo, yo’ing! God korean boys=hotness!

LMH can put on a neon pink leisure suit and drive around in a lime green pinto and the chick population would think it’s awesome lol! I’m not a huge fan, he’s cool but not my fav! It’s his hair…he has a jheri curl thing going on!

LOL I swear Tony Moly sells just b/c of him! He’s even on the bloody bags!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Candi

    LEE MIN HO!
oh god he is hot…. (:

btw, i wanted to know how you order your korean goods?

    • the Muse

      for sure candi.

I have a friend who gets me Korean bits from Korea. But you can check various places online, answered in the comments above I listed a few places 🙂

  • su-pah

    Hahahaha at ‘almost paaaarodaaiiise!”
No, please don’t let that song get stuck in my head, noooo!!

Kim Joon’s ‘yo yo yo yo, meeeen!” was hell sexy!
I liked that he had that boyish charm about that the rest of the F4 didn’t have, sigh, gorgeous! And I had to scour all shops for a khaki trenchcoat similar to the one he so stylishly whips on during the latter part of ‘almost paaaaarodaaaise’ sequence.
Ok, enough of that now, that’s more than enough perving for one day! xD

    • the Muse

ALMOST PARADISEEEEEEEEEE tae yangboda to taseuhan nal bo-neun noye nunbi cheu on sesang ta gachindeutha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! hehe su-pah! If you really get me going I’ll sing the theme song from My Lovely Sam-Soon for ya! 😀

LOL I gotta admit I find Kim Joon’s “yo’s” a little corny but sweet 😀 LOL!!!!!!!! omg you’re obsessed! F4 look out! 😀

Lee Joon Ki is my TRUEST love 😀

      • su-pah

        (covers ears) noooooooooo!!
Haha, not as obsessed as I am with So Ji Sub… and Go Soo and Song Joong-ki these days, heheh!
The F4 obsession was like last decade ago, hahaha!

  • Hana

I want it. Just for the packaging. XD I have one of the little apple shaped lip creams and I love it. <3

    • the Muse

lol hana same here the damn packaging! I have the apple and peach lip creams and love them :_D

  • Heather / Eyeconic

Muse, you are totally inspiring me to try Asian face masks. I saw some at an Asian market here that I’m going to pick up this weekend. One is a potato mask, hehe.

    • the Muse

awesome Heather!!!!!! What brand is the potato one? 😀 go for it! You’ll be delighted at the results!

  • Soledad

Hey Muse! I’m a fond Korean reader of your website and really appreciate that you’re reviewing Asian beauty products.
I have used both of the masks and was okay with both (really good, but not Holy Grail). Tomatox was pretty cool, because it would instantly brighten my skin by a few skin tones (by MAC standards, from a NC20 an NC10 maybe?). I actually tried an experiment on my hand where I put the mask on one half of my hand, and the difference was visible! It was pretty amazing, but then again, it only lasted a few hours before the effects started to die out. Too bad it’s only instantaneous (otherwise, it would be an amazing discovery that Tony Moly beat to Loreal, Estee Lauder and the bunch!) but it’s definitely worth a try. I wonder what they put in the tonics though for it to bleach out my skin like that. My skin’s not sensitive, so I didn’t get any rashes (nor did a lot of the korean reviewers who have also tried the tomatox), but if you’re extremely sensitive, you might or might not see some side effects (it’s always good to be careful right?)
The green apple mask, on the other hand, was less…notable, shall I say? (at least compared to its tomato counterpart which is just unique? I’ve never seen anything work like it.) I’m guessing TonyMoly released it to join the current market trend of peelers for sensitive skin . But then I have to admit–it’s really gentle on the skin. It’s really like an affordable version of Juice beauty’s exfoliater (get the green apple connection?): moisturizing and gentle. As for the peeling effects–well, they weren’t really noticeable my first try (the flakes peeked back the next morning) but after a few tries, I’m getting positive reactions. It’s really up to the skin type, though, but I will guarantee you that the appletox is really moisturizing and gentle! the tomatox, i’m not quite sure i’ll repurchase (it’s really cool the first time…but you start getting suspicious the next) but the appletox i’m planning on repurchasing after my other tube of exfoliator runs out.
Wow, that was a long comment, and I hope it helped (I’m sorry if it was a spoiler in any way…). And lastly I would just like to say, keep up the good work!! Really looking forward to your next post!! From Seoul, Korea

    • the Muse

hi soledad! good to meet you!

I’m so glad you’re enjoying the korean reviews! and thanks for being a follower/reader of Musings! I like the sound of the tomatox even if it’s only temporary as I’m always looking for ways to lighten my skin tone and aside from good lilac primer there isn’t a whole lot that works. Absolutely 😀 I’m not sensitive either but one never knows.

even though the apple one wasn’t so fab I still value it for it’s gentle peeling action alone as I find grainy/sugary scrubs a tad too drying for me lately! 😀 I’m so glad you enjoyed both so far and I will def purchase both just out or curiosity for myself :-D!!!!!!!!!!!!

It helped ALOT 😀 It wasn’t a spoiler at all and I really enjoyed reading your take on it 😀

Aw thank you so so so so much! major hugs!

  • Panda

    Hi Muse,

After reading this post of yours, I would just love to tell you that you will definitely adores Tony Moly products as much as I do. I have the Tomatox mask (bought 2 of them while I’m in Hong Kong) They are relatively cheap and definitely get the job done very nicely. However, I didn’t bring along the appletox peeler with me, cos I figure that I have way too much of them at home. Haha!! The tomatox mask is very good not just for the brightening but the smooth skin that comes after that is definitely something you would adore. The sweet scent for the mask is a plus, too. You’ve got to see how Hyun Joong advertise for this mask, he is so cute and sexy in the commercials and he said that the mask make him feels hungry after putting them on.
I was regretting not to get the tangerine and peach shaped handcream by TonyMoly while I was in Hong Kong, they are just as cute as the tomatox mask!!
The Avacado handcream and Strawberry handcream is a must try from TonyMoly. If you are a big fan of handcream like I do, please don’t miss them out!! There is the intensive night repair sleeping mask that you will want to try too, I love that to bits!!

    • the Muse

      hi panda

I actually already use some Tony Moly products including the BB Cream 😀 I like them very much just haven’t yet tried these two products. It’s so great to hear such positive reviews about the masks, thanks for telling me about them 😀 I have them on order and they should be arriving shortly. I absolutely adore HJ 😀 I think he’s too cute in the commercials 😀 I have the peach but not the tangerine 😀 I’m a sucker for anything fruit shaped hehe!

Haven’t tried the avocado or the strawberry handcream but thanks for the recs. I have the berry sleeping mask which I really love.

Thanks for spreading the good word about Tony Moly :D!

  • Ann

Hi, I just purchased d tomatox & berry berry wrinkles night cream via online from sasa website. that’s bcoz i saw that the price in sasa is cheaper than the one in e-bay. Do u have any suggestion on which online site is cheaper? I’m currently in Malaysia & sasa in m’sia doesn’t have Tony Moly yet… but the product in sasa online is very limited. i saw only 5! Pls let me know if u know any cheaper site or anyone who can supply the product to me.the strawberry cream sounds interesting. I’m a fan of any-berries-stuff….thanx ya.

    • the Muse

hi ann that’s great. I only know of sasa and e-bay that sells tony moly or maybe head onto a forum to see about getting a cp. hope this helps!

      Enjoy your purchases!

  • Nina

Ahahaha, I searched some things on ebay and found “TONY MOLY Egg Pore Black Head Out Oil Gel”. It looks sooooo funny – I have to buy and try it!

    Have you ever tried these?

    • the Muse

lol those are adorable nina, yes I have. I have the eye cream ones as well, fun!

  • Jun

Great to see some reviews on tony moly products ! I’ve actually just ordered the tony moly triple expert nano gold bb cream, the one which had the kim hyun joong limited edition package sometime ago ? Any sharings ? I’ve been using etude house love homme ( lee min ho) , skin79 homme and dr jart silver bb cream..and the latter one seems to break me out alot. Has anyone used dr jart before or has seen the full ingredients list ?? Thanks.

    • nat

hi do u know wats the ingredients for the etude house homme? and how is it compare to skin79 homme?

  • Lisa

I have both the appletox and tomatox 😀
I got them when i lived in Korea and their really nice~
The only thing that bothers me is that when you test out the product at the store, the sample is has a stronger ingredient then the actual one they sale. So when I tested the tomatox it worked really well and you can tell the skin color difference ;o but when I bought the actual thing it didn’t work as well as the sample they had us try ;/ BUT it did leave my skin smooth and fresh ^^ & the appletox I used a couple of times but not as much as the tomatox~

ALSO!!! Just a warning, when you wear the tomatox you might feel a burning tingly feeling so it might irritate your skin if you wear it too long! Your suppose to wear it only for 10 min~

  • iheartkoreanbeauty

I like the Tony Moly Triple more than Dr Jart 🙂 Dr J was my first BB and I used to lvoe it, but now find it waayy too light 😛 Makes me look a bit ghostlike in pics! The TM Triple and Innisfree Trouble Care are my dailys taples 🙂

    • the Muse

yup christy as soon as my backlog of Holiday and Spring is done. I’ll get to it sometime soon 🙂

  • Hika

the tomatox one hurt in my skin.. I’ve appletox and tomatox… and I feel like my face hurt, but I clean my face with water during all next two days so many times to remove that feeling (yes, the feeling of hurt continue during next day) and at second-third day my face feel better and I can see results since when I use it. For the appletox I see the effects better at 2nd day.
But my problem is this, that I feel like if my face hurt..
