Yay or Nay: Maybelline Eye Studio Color Plush Eyeshadow Quads

Hey chicklets!

Busy Monday morning and even busier afternoon! Tons of comments to get through as well so keep on blatherin’ I’ll answer soon!

Today I’m sportin’ a Maybelline Color Plus Eyeshadow Quad and figured by now everyone has seen these gems at their local drugstore.

Jump ahead to yay it or nay it!

I have a full review upcoming on these guys shortly but so far it’s a big old yay!

These are available in a slew of shades, have a silky pigmented formula, and are such an interesting take in the drugstore world. You don’t see palettes like this at your drugstore everyday that much is fact.

Anyone haul ’em yet?

Are you yay’ing them?

Nay’ing them?

Not interested?

Very interested?

Do share your thoughts or mini review!

I bought the purple and the plum quads. I love them-great color & great staying power!!!

    • the Muse

hey sara I got these too, love the purple such a lovely shimmering lilac 😀

  • kelly

I bought one of these and I hated it. The colors are blah. I have recently bought several different eyeshadows from the drugstore and none of them are packing a color pop. So disappointing.

    • the Muse

omg really kelly? I LOVED them!!!!!!!!! Which shade selection did u get? must shadows suck at the ds but these I adored.

Btw did you see barrowman is going to play a villain on desperate housewives?

  • Anitacska

I am really not interested in these. I have far too many lovely high end eyeshadows now to bother with Maybelline and the likes. You know what I mean? If I was strapped for cash, then maybe, but I’m not and I’d rather spend money on Dior, Chanel, Guerlain and Mac. I often find my drugstore purchses to be a waste of money nowadays.

    • the Muse

hey anita I’m normally of the same mentality when it comes to drugstore stuff but these are kinda a break through for US drugstores. I likey 😀

don’t write them off just yet they aren’t too bad at all!

  • NuNu

Nooooo must not buy DS brands!Esp Maybelline, been burnt too many times. However, I been seeing these make their rounds in blogiverse and so far everyone is giving a thumbs up.
Shall wait for ur swatches and good words before making the jump.
The key question should be….but does it smell?

    • the Muse

haha nunu! I hear ya I hear ya well 😀 I’ll be doing swatches for ya shortly 😀

Mmmm no I don’t think it smells will take a sniff when I got home, let ya know 🙂

  • daisyv316

It looks nice on the magazine ad’s but I am skeptical about drugstore brand eyeshadows, however I have been eyeing the eye sticks from covergirl, the ones with drew barrymare. Again looks lovely on her, but I dont know.

    • the Muse

hey daisy not so sure on the CG sticks but these are rather fab 😀 I’m loving ’em!

    • the Muse

elisa I’ll be reviewing for ya shortly I think you’ll likey 😀 pretty impressed myself so far!

  • Melissa

I tried the pink persuasion shade and I was really disappointed. It was probably my fault for not trying a bolder set but I found the pigmentation really poor. I am glad to hear that you had good results and can’t wait to see which one you picked for your review.

    • the Muse

hey melissa I can’t believe it. I really like them! Did you try going the shadestick route? that really helped beef color up for me 🙂

  • suz

they look almost exactly like the Japanese brand kose Fasio Glossy Layered Eye palettes. I’ll wait tell you do a review before buying any since my plan is to get the Japanese brand.

    • the Muse

hey suz ugh but fasio palettes suck! 😀 don’t waste your $! most everything fasio puts out blows it! these are right on US shores plus sport the same formula has many japanese brands such as MJ so might as well snag ’em here 😀 cheaper than going the airmail route imho!

  • Ashley

I would have the same mentality as most reviewers/reader but I’m a college student, I can’t afford the yuppie brands YET.
For a drugstore brand eyeshadow, these are great. Although they are quite shimmery, they aren’t FROSTY 😀 I think they work great when applied wet + eyeshadow primer.

    • the Muse

I gotta agreed ashley the fact that they are shimmery and not frosty thrills me as I HATE frosty finishes 🙂 and for the price you can’t beat it imho! It’s really a stand out one for any DS imho!

  • Monroe

The packaging couldn’t appeal to me less, and although that doesn’t say anything about the actual product, it will probably keep me from buying any since I’m not exactly in -need- of new eyeshadow. Makeup is usually an impulse buy, and these don’t make me feel impulsive in the least!

Still, the other products you’ve recommended that I’ve tried have been bril, so maybe I’ll give them a second look and see if any of the colors catch my eye 😀

  • Beauty Maven

NAAAY!!!! Oh please don’t waste your money on these!! I did a review of them on my blog recently, and man they are so bad. The shade I got was chock full of glitter instead of having a nice pigmented color. Ugh. If you’re looking for something bold and a drugstore brand then please go try L’Oreal’s HIP line and save yourself the disappointment! I really have nothing good to say about that eyeshadow… gross =\

    • the Muse

I got alot of ’em Beauty Maven and kinda dug ’em 🙂 They aren’t incredible but I def liked. I’m a real fan of shimmery so didn’t mind the shimmery bits 🙂

  • Coral

I haven’t bought any yet, but I really love the way colors in the quads. I’m trying to resist temptation for the moment, but that won’t last long. Also, I’m waiting for them to go on sale before I get them.

    • the Muse

coral wait till they go on sale. I’ve seen a TON of deals lately. buy one get one 50% off etc…so just wait for a great sale 🙂

  • Meredith

I’ve seen these and was waiting to see what the beauty gurus had to say about them. I’m intrigued, but have been really disappointed in the recent Cover Girl purchases I’ve made, so I haven’t tried them yet. Might just give them a chance now.

    • the Muse

hey meredith I have a review upcoming shortly so far for me it was a yay 😀

I don’t like CG all that much to be honest 🙁

  • Shannon

I have the copper one and the mauve one… I like how shimmery they are, but once applied all the colors meld together. I use with primer and also barley blend, but after a short time I can’t tell the different between the crease/lid shades. For the price they are nice… probably won’t buy anymore as I feel they look nicer in the compact than on the eye =)

    • the Muse

hey shannon same prob here. love them lots but blending is a PITA! I’ve taken to using the colors separate 🙂

      • Shannon

Good idea to just use ‘um separately. So I lied, I was in my local drugstore the other day to buy something totally unrelated, and passed by the display and just couldn’t help but pick up the green shade. HAHA! I am such a sucker, even though I told myself I wouldn’t buy anymore, they are just too cute and I couldn’t resist. I have a problem, I know, lol!

        • the Muse

LOL Shannon cheeky little lady! I knew you couldn’t resist 😀 LOL not at all they are somehow hard to resist aren’t they!?!?

  • Tammy

I love these! This is the kind of Japanese-esque eyeshadows that western brands are lacking ^^

  • Daituf

I saw these at an asian mall selling for only $6!!! Do you think they are fakes? Coz in stores here (canada) it retails for over $12!
It looked completely real to me…
Where could they have gotten them for so cheap?!?!?!
I’m tempted to get the lilac one….

    • the Muse

hey daituf hmm that’s cheap but not absurdly so as I think target had them for 6.99 last week. Dunno if they are fakes but I doubt it prob just on sale?

They have been cheap everywhere hear since the release buy one get one 50% off etc……so I suppose it varies from shop to shop 😀

  • Laura

Ihave the one in Copper Chic. I saw it in an Asian magazine and being a fan of Japanese eyeshadows I had to try them. I was very pleased: the texture is soft, almost wet, creamy, and reminds me of Kanebo formulas. The pigmentation is what I expected from a gradation quad. And I think that what impressed me the most is the staying power.

    • the Muse

laura couldn’t agree more. pretty much typical Japanese style shadow with these! Very much like a kanebo or MJ or any other Asian brand…slightly creamy, very silky, and wonderful pigmentation. Seems the majority is in nay mode but I say yay yay yay!

  • Fabiola

@ the Muse: I LOVE the idea of John Barrowman being on Desperate Housewives! Ah, I do miss Torchwood, though. I want to see more of Cap. Jack Harkness!! By the way, did you hear that there’s going to be an American remake of Torchwood?

    • the Muse

hey fabiola I’m not sure I love it yet must see how it develops but curious minds for sure 😀 Yes I heard groan that should be a big old hot mess! Ugh

  • cathy

hi MUSE! these are the regular kind of Maybelline eyeshadows here in Asia..they have some pretty good pigmentation!

    • the Muse

hey cathy yup I know 😀 It’s rather great they are finally HERE 🙂 I agree pigmentation is fabs!

  • Hana

Yay! I’m glad to hear you like these, since I’ve been waffling about whether or not to buy the green quad. I think now I will!

  • Becca

Bought the maybelline “Sapphire Siren” plush quad. First off, each shade is super-frosty, and NOT a good frosty. Instead of creating a sexy shimmer, the frostiness of these shades creates a look reminiscient of a little girl playing in her mommy’s 60’s makeup. As for the colors, they are entirely misrepresented in the ad. The actual shades, once applied, are NOWHERE near as bright or as vibrant as those pictured. The pigmentation is almost non-existent. The darker blue, instead of being the brilliant vivid shade shown in the ad, actually just comes off as looking dirty. If you must try these products, purchase them at a retailer to whom you can return them, such as CVS or Ulta.

    • the Muse

      hi becca

So sorry to hear your woes about this 🙁 I purchased a few and really liked them, mostly I got a shimmer finish not frosty…not sure if I got your shade selection though, I got the gold/copper one, blue, purple, and a few others.

I’m really sorry you hated them! Def CVS of Ulta as they have a great return policy!

    • jill

I got sapphire siren and hate it! TOOO SHIMMERY. ick. The shimmer is chunky and way over the top, I felt like a disco ball.

On the other hand Sunset Seduction is great, one of the shades is a dupe for Mac’s Expensive pink. I just wish one colour was a matte for contrast and balance.

      • the Muse

aw sorry jill! I gotta say I love ’em 😀 omg I love expensive pink and didn’t notice it was a good dupe must double check that thanks!

  • Amber J.

I was seriously disappointed with these and I should have know better than to buy Maybelline since I was disappointed with their NewYork line which is made in London WTH?? but I went against my better judgment and bought the Sapphire Siren from the ad because I love brightly colored makeup. Well ladies don’t waste your money I have photographic proof that you will not be getting what you paid for, Stick with H.I.P by Loreal.

I tried my hardest, the first day I tried them I was like WTH? there’s hardly any color so I gave them a second chance by using them with an Urban Decay Primer underneath and well 4 coats later it wasn’t much better. 2 thumbs down, way down for this brand all together.
