Beauty on a Budget: Avon Ultra Color Rich Mega Impact Lipstick Review and Swatches

Morning chickets…or wait it’s afternoon already isn’t it?

How was your weekend? Mine was pretty slow going for once, amen for slow weekends. I got a chance to see Alice in Wonderland on Friday and I’m still debating what I think of it, who seen? Whatcha think? Discuss!

The rest of the weekend went by in a rather quick blur especially yesterday when I proceeded to veg in front of the telly playing Bioshock 2 and Heavy Rain with my mate Martin. It was one of those lose track of time moments as we proceeded to fall into a gaming comatose. Can I tell you how pissy I am about Heavy Rain? Between choppy video and incredibly long load times we were both ready to toss Mountain Dew a the TV and hiss big boos! Seriously, I could have walked around the block and made a roast while waiting for the damn scenes to load. Not cool Sony, so not cool.

Anyway, I also got a chance to check Avon Ultra Color Rich Mega Impact Lipstick. Dontcha just love how Avon tosses in all those major words? Mega! Rich! Ultra! It’s like an action movie. I know I get excited when my lipstick is mega, rich, full of impact, and ultra…yeah baby!

Jump!

Avon Ultra Color Rich Mega Impact Lipstick sports a rich, pigmented formula plus an SPF 15 all for the low price of $4.99. Can I hear an amen for inexpensive lipstick?

This is actually part of Avon High-Def range so tossing all those ultras, megas, and riches into the mix is all about the incredible formula. The formula is extremely pigmented, like wow inducing color here. I tried it in Charged Cherry and unfortunately proceeded to look like Bozo the Clown but I can’t deny the formula is incredibly nice. It has a high sheen shine, glides onto lips without being dry, provides a nice, hydrated finish, and has an intense color pay off. Now I need to get away from Charged Cherry and get me a shade more fitting for my coloring!

The lipstick has a diamond-like shape which looks cumbersome to use but manages to actually fit quite nicely on the contour of your lip and even creates the perfect bow shaped to your lips thanks to the precise tip.

Avon Ultra Color Rich Mega Impact Lipstick is available in 10 shades for $4.99 each at shop.avon.com

The Muse thinks you won’t find a nicer lipstick if you’re needing one to fit your budget at the moment.

Quite nice!

Anyone try Avon Ultra Color Rich Mega Impact Lipstick?

Wow that’s a nice swatch. I just can’t bring myself to order from Avon though 🙁
Not sure why…although it could be make up snobbery :O

    • the Muse

caroline always been a makeup snob as well 😀 but avon had converted me to some really nice bits :-D!

  • dina

looks so creamy & moisturizing? my real purpose in commenting is to tell you heavy rain?? my husband would LOVE you!! 🙂 my gaming preferences are more on the mario side 😀 however i will refrain from telling him to save myself the “see if you were a cool wife you’d play ps3 with me” blah blah blah 😉

    • the Muse

get dina! what up gorgeous! Quite creamy, quite moisturizing, likey! LOL cheers 😀 tell him come over we can game it together LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL awwww! damn men! We played yesterday and were less than thrilled. we ended up doing a silly amount of time with BioShock 2 (I won’t even say how many hours) and we moved on to Heavy Rain after but we got so pissed off with it…it’s such an incredible storyline and the graphics are killer but it’s choppy at times and difficult to navigate the character in some cases as they walk a tad funny, this causes problems particularly when it’s time to actually perform important actions. What does he think so far? We tried it on ps3 slim and proceeded to follow up on regular p3 but same crap!

      • the Muse

PS another problem is it’s one player so wrestling the controller from Martin once he gets going is a pain in the ass. I proceed to sit and watch and offer commentary b/c he won’t let me have a chance. than we start fighting and bickering over it like old farts, not a pretty sight

        • dina

HAHAHA sounds like me and my bro fighting over nintendo & genesis back in the day!

          • the Muse

lol dina! mmm it’s much like that with Martin *nods* indeed, very much like that.

  • Anitacska

One of my favourite lipsticks is from Avon (24k lipstick in Natural Gold, a perfect nude shade), but this weird shaped liptick just doesn’t appeal to me. 🙁 Can’t believe how cheap these are in the US though, they cost 5 ($7.50) in the UK, but the brochure actually says normally 8 ($12!). Wtf? :S

    • the Muse

anita 24k is my fav too! Love that lippie. Shape didn’t appeal to me either, was worried it would prove messy but it actually kinda fits the contour of my lips nicely and lines the lip as it applies…it’s an interesting effect. wow…but price jack! It’s $4.99 right now…which hey for a lipstick, can’t beat it, but $12 dunno if I’d go for it as I can get a mac for $14 ya know?

  • Marina

I’m a huge TB fan, and my favorite actors were in this one (JD, HBC, Rickman, Spall, Christopher Lee…)…plus I’m a big AIW fan too. So it was a match made in heaven…but I felt something was missing…I liked it, but it wasn’t EPIC. One part I LOVED though was when the Hatter was reciting the Jabberwocky poem. Really cool that have that in their, having read the books.
My brother is bery big into videogames like Bioshock…I think he just got the second one a couple days ago…All he ever talks about! I’m more into Mario Kart, Crash Bandicoot, Atari, and Spyro. Old school 😉
Lipstick looks really nice! And uber cheap.

    • the Muse

Marina couldn’t agree more. Lots of amazing actors but something not quite right. I liked it well enough as well but didn’t feel it was fantastic by any means possible. Good not great. I liked that as well however anyone going to the film could be slightly confused about it’s angle without having prior knowledge of the books and the sequence of the story!

How’s he liking it? It’s kinda nice so far, we played a bit too long yesterday 😀 obviously he likes if he’s talking so much about it hehe. omg old school lol!

oh yes it is, loving the price tag 😀

  • Carielle

Well I find that Avon lipsticks tend to run in that one fine little line that I have on my upper lip. So I’ll skip. As for the color…please ladies, don’t be scared of bright pinks. Haven’t you all watched the Oscars last night ??

As for Alice, I find Tim did a great job. Of course I’ve always been a big Burton fan….. You gotta love his style before you love his movies…

    Thanks for the swatch Muse.

    • the Muse

aw that stinks carielle! It isn’t pink 😀 it’s a bright red hehe! I don’t mind pink but true reds like this are hard for me to pull off sadly.

He’s fab I agree! Alice was good but not his greatest!

      Your most welcome dear 🙂

  • Jessie

It’s a beautiful strawberry colour! But… guess I’m a snob as well 😀 Why don’t you show a pic of you wearing it Muse? I think it should go quite well with your fair skin.

Alice was… you can’t say it’s not nice, but somehow it’s not that nice either (old man almost fell asleep). It was interesting and the script was well written, but somehow there was something missing, some ‘omph!’. By the end of the movie I was like, “hmmm….”

But Johnny Depp can be my Mad Hatter though 😀

    • the Muse

hey jessie. No way 😀 I look like a clown will it so def not up for picture time with it 😀 haha!

I agree…it was ok…but not incredible. aw hells yes 😀 JD can be as mad as a hatter any day he likes!

  • Katherine @ Lipgloss and Spandex

The color is way too bold for me, but the swatch looks fantastic. I might just have to give these a try… Thanks, Muse!

    • the Muse

you’re most welcome katherine was a bit too crazed for me as well but likey the formula 😀

  • Lisa

Oh, you’re a gamer of sorts, Muse? Heh I watched a friend play Heavy Rain; graphics are gorgeous…they do walk funny though, and clothes have this odd tendency to stand by themselves (notice a coat on the wall? It looks like a marshmallow…)
But its a pretty incredible story…

    • the Muse

hey Lisa. Yes, it seems to be graphics are slightly out of whack on occasion. I find the walking/running a problem when you’re trying to set up an important move, drives me bats. Loading wasn’t fab to be honest, it took ages to cut to a scene but it’s the least of my worries with choppy video to contend with grrr! Love the game, love the story, love the play, but it has a few irritating quirks that drove us batty 😛

  • Tabi

My first comment here. Just wanted to say I love your blog!! <3

I knew you were a WoW player from your About page, but it's nice to see another gamer girl who plays games like Bioshock 2 and Heavy Rain AND loves makeup! Yay!! I did notice longer load times here and there for Heavy Rain, but it wasn't so bad I wanted to give up. =(

Thanks for everything you do here! It's wonderful! =)

    • the Muse

      hey tabi!

      what’s up? Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!! 😀 cheers!

Oh no I don’t think we gave up on it but it was def irritating. so far the game is a masterpiece quite well done 😀 vid was a little choppy and hated the load time but def not complaining about the story, characters, etc….how far in are you?

Aw thank you Tabi! It sure is great to get such nice comments 😀 I appreciate you reading my babbling 😀

      Hugs!

      • Tabi

We finished it last weekend, and it’s definitely a good story (some minor plot holes aside, but I’m more than happy to forgive those). I do the same thing as you do with your friend Martin; my husband and I play the games together. =) If you haven’t finished it yet, I hope you love the conclusion as much as I did!

We’re really looking forward to GoW3, next! But playing Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and FF13 until then.

        <3

        • the Muse

hey tab! we didn’t finish it yet as we wasted way too much time vegging out on Bioshock plus Martin has a problem sharing so first person rpg isn’t a good thing with him but I’m looking forward to down time on my own to have a go 😀 I heard outcome is different per story so I look forward to exploring it a few times 😀 I’m very much looking forward to GoW3 as well and of course FF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! <3333!
