FrontCover Cosmetics Rainbow Eyes Palette Review and Swatches

Heads up UK’ers, the new Frontcover Cosmetics Rainbow Eyes Palette is back and available for a limited time at Boots for 15 ($22) which contains 25 Eyeshadows plus a few extras.

The Muse sure does like super sized palettes and this my dears is HUGE!

Check it after the jump!

The Frontcover Cosmetics Rainbow Eyes Palette was available last Holiday season but was recently re-introduced into the British market with a new lower price tag for a limited time. So if you’re wantin’ it, best get on it because it won’t be around for long.

The palette is a little bigger than 8.5 by 11 inches (bigger than standard piece of paper). It flips open to reveal 25 extra large shadows in a range of shadows, formulas, and finishes plus some nice tutorials for application techniques and looks located on the back and inside flap of the palette. You don’t only get the shadows with the palette though! They also include two dual ended applicators plus Frontcover Shadowline which is a clear liquid liner that allows you to turn any of the shadow shades into an eyeliner, pretty nifty right?

The shadow shades vary to include both neutral and bolder, more vibrant shades. Although entitled “Rainbow Eyes”, you’ll still get your fair shade of beautiful browns to create a more natural, neutral, work friendly look as well as more vibrant shades to create a funkier, edgier look if you so desire. FrontCover places each of the shadows in five groups which they deemed Nude, Cool, Warm, Jewels, and Wow. The Nude group contains various shades of gold, bronze, and browns. The Cool group features shades that are more suitable for a smokey eye such as a shimmering shade of black and silver. The Warm group showcases shades of pink, cranberry, and purple. The Jewel group contains shades of green, aqua, and watery color. And finally the Wow group contains a few matte shades that aren’t as shimmery as many of the other shades in the palette.

The formula varies from shadow to shadow. About half the palette is made up of baked eye shadow and the other half are standard. Most have a pearl, velvet, or shimmer finish but a matte can be found as well which is the shade Buttercup (yellow). Color payoff and pigmentation also varies from shade to shade. Some colors are more pigmented than others and in most cases I’d suggest a sponge application for application as this packs on color better than any brush you have in your stash. In most cases I noticed either a sponge or a wet sponge got the best color pay off where as using a MAC brush or the brushes included with the palette didn’t pick up color nearly as well.

Overall, for the price, it’s a rather great little palette particularly for those who do not have alot of color in their eyeshadow wardrobe already. It contains basically every color you’d want to create some vibrant looks or more friendly, natural ones. The shadows are easy to work with and blend well when applied with a sponge but I’d avoid brushes to get the best results. The included Frontcover Shadow line is a fun extra for changing shadows into liner in a flash. The tutorials included are easy to follow as well and a nice little touch if you aren’t exactly sure which shades would look good together. The palette could prove cumbersome to travel with as it is extra large and probably the biggest palette I own (this bad boy is about the size of two Urban Decay Book of Shadow Palettes) however I do think that’s part of it’s novelty and appeal. It’s extra large size also allows you to take advantage of having 25 full size shades of shadow in one place.

I’m digging this in all honestly. It’s unique, different, and quite fun.

Some looks created using the palette:

Frontcover Cosmetics Rainbow Eyes Palette is available within the UK at the moment at Boots but I’ve heard it should be available for retail in the US shortly, I’ll update with information shortly. If you’re lemming it after this review and you are within the US, I’d suggest heading to E-bay or E-bay UK and seeing if you can score a deal or check out your local Brits on MUA or your favorite makeup forum to maybe arrange for a swap.

UPDATE: The palette can be purchased from www.bodycare2000.com for those within the US.

I have this palette and I love it, especially the top row which is just gorgeous. I like the fluid that turns the shadows into eyeliner, which I think is a great idea. All in all, I think it’s a lovely palette, but I wouldn’t advise anyone to spend too much on trying to get it from the UK espcially if it’s going to be available in the US as it’s not worth it that much.

hey anita you’re right kinda costly to have airmailed over due to it’s size 😀 did you see the new summer palette? Looks delightful 😀

      • Anitacska

Ooh, I’ve just checked out the Front Cover website and the promo picture for Mermaid Dreams looks great! Oh, actually you can buy it now from http://www.bodycare2000.com and they deliver worldwide – but I don’t know how much it costs though.

looks like one of those mu gift packs i often see in the supermarkets but skipped. the swatch didn’t look very pigmented but looked quite all right on you. do you think they are going to show up as well as someone like me? very interesting stuff. if you didn’t blog about it and i saw it in the store, i may just skip simply because of the packaging. *_*

    • the Muse

mmm yes jojoba some of the shades so look smashing on your coloring 😀 the packaging is pretty darn big and could prove a pain for storage or travel but I don’t mind as it’s all full size product which makes it great 😀

  • Angela

ah, jealous! I liked the gold the best on you; it was cute how you matched up your headband/top with the shadow colour 😛

  • Therese

So glad I picked this up! I’m not sure it’s still available for 15, I think was only until 25th March. Thanks for the tip about the sponge, I did notice some of the colours were hard to pick up.

Look out for another huge palette – Mermaid Dreams from their summer collection, looks absolutely gorgeous!!

    Tx

    • the Muse

hey therese really? I thought it would be until at least April damn! But still well worth it at the higher price tag 😀 I’m looking forward to mermaid dreams! I seen a pic and was in lust 😀

  • becca

Girl in the pictures above had great brows! they’d look fab with some brow pencil and shaped 😀

  • Renia

hi girls ! Dont really understand why everyone is so excited about Front Cover eye shadow. There are waste of the money. the colours are beautiful but… when I put them on , it must be like million layers in order to see any colour on my eye lid at all. nice colours but definitely low quality.

this post was in 2010 when front cover was still open! Sadly, the brand is no longer so you can’t purchase this anymore.
