Musings of the Day: Rinse It All Away!

It’s probably not something you consciously think about but how do you rinse your face? As in are you one for ice cold water to close your pores? Perhaps can’t take the brisk coolness and you end up going the lukewarm route? Or maybe extra hot so you feel like the steam is benefiting your face as you rinse your cleanser off?

Wanna Muse an unusual Musings with me?

Jump to see how I rinse it all away!

Although most anyone would recommend cool to lukewarm, I happen to rinse with hot water…not uncomfortably hot mind you but warm enough that it feels like a soothing shower in the morning. I sometimes wonder if this might be what causes my dry skin…but I can’t help it, warm water feels so lovely when I’m rinsing my cleanser off.

How about you?

Warm?

Cold?

Lukewarm?

I rinse with cold water when I’m washing my face on the sink. I use warm water in the shower. Can’t handle cold water in the shower!

    • the Muse

me either zelle! Although sometimes in Summer I’ll rinse with cold, feels rather refreshing during the humidity 😀

  • Carolanne

I rinse away my cleanser with hot water as well. I feel that if it’s not hot, it’s not clean! haha
BUT right after, I splash my face about 3 times with ice cold water. the coldest my faucet can produce. i notice a big difference when i do this, as opposed to when i just use hot water. not only does it close up my pores, but my skin looks and feels more toned! =]

    • the Muse

lol carolanne some logic in that, have the same feelin’! I gotta say when I use cold water my skin looks really good too! maybe we need to embrace this 😀

  • Karrie

I rinse with hot water too.
And when I am not lazy, I will splash cold water afterward.

  • mercedes

well,i usuallly rinse with lukewarm, but in the mornings when im still groogy i rinse with a splash of cold water to wake myself up and proceed to do my regular cleansing routine

    • the Muse

hey Mercedes! I normally end up with hot in the AM as I’m in the shower when I wash my face hehe!

  • Marcy

Warm to hot! I live in a rather old house and hot and cold water are controlled by separate taps! I automatically turn the hot water on… then the water gets too hot and I have to have hot and cold on at the same time and try to get a mix of water from both… lol i sound so klutzy

  • Heather / Eyeconic

I always use hot water on my face before I wash to open my cars, then rinse with cool water after to close em. I don’t know if it actually makes any difference, but I’d like to think it does.

      • Heather / Eyeconic

I totally said cars instead of pores… wtf? i’m giggling

        • the Muse

LOL heather I noticed but I hate when people correct me when I make spelling errors/grammar errors so I didn’t want to say anything 😀

  • Becky

In the morning I use reasonably cold water just to help wake me up a little and at night I use lukewarm. I have been using the L’oreal 360 clean…i have super oily skin..and it has really been working for me.

    • the Muse

becky glad to hear it sadly didn’t work for me le sigh but seems to be a winner with most 😀

  • Ashley

I used to & still do love washing my face with what my parent’s call “scalding hot water” but it was the reason for all the redness & dryness of my skin 🙁 I only wash with ice cold water now but I’m still quite red. Not as dry though!

    • the Muse

oh my gosh ashley sounds bad…I don’t do scalding hot but I do like pleasantly warm 😀

  • Alyssamae

I would awesome comfortably hot/warm water opens up the pores and cleanses the skin 🙂 But i’m with ya, I rinse/wash my face with comfortable hot/warm water 🙂

    • the Muse

hey alyssamae! I think that sounds about right but like you def love warm/hot water!

  • Tohnia

I was told to wash my face using hot water first (to open up the pores) then lukewarm (to flush stuff out I think), and then finish with a splash of cold (to close the pores). I learned that little gem in a makeup class…Mary Kay I think? It was a while ago. Now I just do as hot as I can stand then cold. =)

    • the Muse

hey tohnia I’ve always heard that was the best way 😀 I wish I could get into that groove but I love the feel of water water on my face when rinsing!

  • jackieg02

I really don’t think about it. When I wash my face during my shower at night, its with hot water. I love hot showers! In the morning its usually cold. The cold wakes you up!

    • the Muse

hey jackie! I normally shower in the AM so it’s hot water for me 😀 as I do my daily cleaning of my face in there. but in the evening I still go with hot 😀 at the sink!

  • Ling

first of all, warm water to rinse, then followed by lukewarm water to rinse away the foam and lastly cold water to wake me up : )

    • the Muse

ling I’m thinking I need to switch my regime up 😀 a little warm a little cool 😀

  • Phyrra

I prefer very warm/hot water to rinse my face. I don’t like shocking cold water, and I don’t like lukewarm, either.

  • yuki

depends on the weather… hehe… I don’t have a cold or hot water tap in my basin cuz it’s naturally warm all year round… If the temp is hot, then my water would be really really warm and if it’s been raining, then the water is cold (which I LOVE)… I try to wash shampoo my hair with hot water and then rinse off the conditioner with cold cold water =)

    • the Muse

hey yuki good call on rinsing with cold on the hair, I do this in the Summer, it always makes my hair feel incredible 😀

  • Elysia Wargo

I like warm water, but I will rinse with cold, kinda wakes me up in the morning

    • the Muse

hey elysia 😀 I normally shower in the AM so it’s most warm but seems like the majority vote leans towards cold in the AM 😀

  • Tango

I *should* rinse with cold water, since the sink in my bathroom has separate hot-and-cold taps. It looks glamorous and vintage, but in reality it means if I don’t hurry washing my face, the hot water gets too hot to use! But I like rinsing with warm/hot, because I feel like it helps my moisturizer or any treatment I use soak in better.

    • the Muse

hey tango! I normally go hot but I wish I could do colder as I feel like it makes my makeup/skincare look better…weird 🙂
