Musings of the Day: What Skincare Is In Your Shower?

The Muse tends to enjoy washing her face up good in the shower. I’m not a morning person so every single day I take a shower before heading out to meet the day. I simply don’t feel clean or awake if I don’t shower in the AM.

Since I’m in there washin’ up my body, I might as well go ahead and take care of my face as well right?

Jump ahead to find out what skincare is in my shower and tell me what’s in yours?

At the moment, I surprisingly only have 7 things hitting up the shelves in my shower.

How about you?

What sort of skincare rules your shower stall?

Or maybe you aren’t one for cleaning up in the shower?

Muse it!

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. That Mac stuff looks really cool. Hmm I am a simple gal, so I use a Neutrogena facial scrub with cool bursts and an Aveeno foaming makeup removal cleanser!

    • the Muse

      hey elysia!

the mac volcanic ash is a fav of mine 😀 Not so simple, two items is alot more than most people have in the shower :-D!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Chelsea

To keep my dry, flaky, blotchy face is in check I use Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cleanser and Kiehl’s Ultra Moisturizing Buffing Cream with Scrub Particles (2x/week) in the shower. However, the shower products are only the tip of the skin-care iceburg.

    • the Muse

LOL Chel! I’m kinda getting hooked on skincare myself lately 😀

  • teresa

what ever my sister picks out lol

there is this new product i would like you to check out and review its called the body shop kiss of color cheek blush. and if you have a recommendation of some foundation that would be good for someone who has oily skin during the hot summer i would appreciate it.

also i kno you like laura gellar hide n shine concealer palette and i would like to tell you that they have it on sale at sephora for 5 dollars.

  • Kate

Hmmm that Mac volcanic ash is might tempting.

I don’t have any product in my shower (aside from the usual). My Clarsonic is sitting in the shower to be used at night if that counts?

    • the Muse

oh gosh kate forgot about my clarisonic, that’s in my shower as well and it sure does count 😀

      • Kate

My thing is if I put too much stuff in the shower I’m going to hear about it from the hubby. I already have two bottles of shampoo, one of conditioner, a hair mask, shower gel, soap, and two bottles of shave gel. I can cram any more in there! lol

        • the Muse

jebus kate doesn’t the hub know that he NEEDS to make room for these things 😀

  • Robyn

i have whatever lush thing ive mamaged to scrounge a generous sample of(gotta love it when a guy serves you wink wink) or have actually bought currently fresh farmacy

oh and theres some garnier thing that seems to have been there for a while think its mums

    • the Muse

hey robyn lol flirting for lush eh 😀 I used to keep FF in my shower too but now it sits by the sink. I rarely use it so I moved it out of the shower to make room for other crap 😀

  • mercedes

hi muse!! i had a cool weekend, went shopping saturday the nhug out with my bff and her fiend randy major fun (heavy sarcasm)
not much in my shower aside from shampoo conditioner& body wash.i actually wash my face after i get out of the shower, the mac volcanic ash looks cool although i buy st.ives apricot scrub religously (it is holy grail!!!) you should try it! what other mac skincare do you use?

    • the Muse

hey Mercedes! Sounds like a good weekend to me, buy anything cool? LOL randy major fun? Should I read into that one!? I used to like the apricot scrub but I was making my skin a bit dry 😀 the volcanic ash is awesome, def worth a haul if you find it cheap on e-bay 😀 Mmm I don’t really overindulge in mac skincare but like the cleansing oil and the eye cream is decent, aside from that nothing else really unless they introduce new stuff as good as VA 😀

      • mercedes

i bought a purple ruffle shirt, and a grey sweater nothing too exciting, about randy i meant to put a comma after his name sorries..

        • the Muse

LOL no worries mercedes, randy sounds like tons of fun 😀 hey clothes shopping is always exciting just as much as makeup somedays 😀 skirt sounds cute!

  • Alexa

Ah let’s see. I have.. MAC Volcanic Ash Exfoliator, Volcanic Ash Thermal Mask, Cleanse-Off Oil (to shave with, I love it!), Philosophy Microdelivery Exfoliating Wash.

Pretty sure that’s it at the moment. I’ve finally found a routine for my skin so I’m trying not to switch up products.. your blog doesn’t help much with that tho 😉

    • the Muse

hey lex! how are you? I used to have Philosophy ME in my shower too 😀 LOL! sorries….!!!!!!!!!

  • LINDARRAGNAR

lushes ocean sea salt <3 it's teh best
    arbonnes facial scrub
dior magic cleansing gel and toner <3

p.s is the volacanic ash good? i've heard mixed reviews 😀

    • the Muse

I absolutely adore volcanic ash linda 😀 totally a winner for me!

Love ocean salt 😀 It used to be my HG for the longest time!

  • Comrade_Garlic

None, but I make up for it with the massive soap/body was/scrub collection. I wash my face and put on a mask (or two) before jumping in. It’s much easier to was the mask off in the shower.

    • the Muse

oh god don’t get me started comrade, too MUCH body wash/soap/and scrub in my shower 😀

  • Ana

I use LUSH Ocean Salt in the shower every morning! It’s lovely.
Every once in a while (2x a week, usually) I switch it up and use Dark Angels.
    😀

    • the Muse

ana people think I’m mad b/c I used to love ocean salt on my face 😀 Dark Angels=AWESOME 😀 loves it. I do find it slightly messy in shower though as getting it out of the tube gets me scared b/c of my wet hands!

      • Thimbler

I use Dark Angels on the shower, and what I do is to just shake my hand a couple times before scooping it out the jar, that way it’s not wet, just damp, and does not cause any damage. I only use it the shower, as I find it TERRIBLY messy outside it!! My bathroom’s sink winds up looking as if there had been some kind of fuel spill xDD

        • the Muse

LOL same here thimbler looks like I had a mechanic come in and clean up!

  • Marcy

    Hey Muse
I don’t shower in the morning – strictly night time person, so there is not much skincare in the shower. But I do like to scrub in the shower… Currently it is Benefit Honey Snap Out of It. If I have a really late shower, did not use make up but want to wash my face I grab the Kanebo Naive Green Tea off the bench by the sink and take it in, does that count?? For some reason I prefer to do makeup removal out of the shower though…

    • the Muse

hey marcy! I do one at night too or a bath 😀 But I NEED one in the AM to wake up! I never take off makeup in the shower either 😀 but I do wash my face for sure in the AM with something that’s hanging out in my shower, sure that counts! The peach naive was in my shower for ages 😀

  • Su

my shower room has almost all of my skin care products apart from moisturizers lol
    it has
    – shu uemura oil cleanser (gone)
-naris up (for blackheads- I am loving this)
-decleor one step cleansing water ( when I feel lazy and when I am just wearing powder I will use this instead of oil cleanser)
-the bodyshop aloe calming facial cleanser, mask, scrub ( I hate these…scrub is so rough and cleanser in my opinion is crap and gives me red spots)
-Guinot Gentle Face Exfoliating Cream, Biological Peeling Radience Gel ( love love these especially exfoliating cream it leaves my skin super soft and smooth)
-cle de peau gentle foaming cleanser ( I am loving this..it cleanse my face really nicely and foam up really well..I don’t even need to use a pump..just maybe half so it is great given it is super expensive (for me))
-Simple facial scrub ( this is not bad..when I am lazy or in the shower I will use this since guinot scrubs need to be used on dry face)

p.s. I am right now having oil cleanser crisis..I bought from ebay more than a month ago and it has not come yet. I just send message to the seller and see what s/he will say T.T…I need oil cleanser if not cannot do makeup sob sob lol ( i am being a bit drama)

    • the Muse

omg su the medicine cabinet is in your shower lol!

aw sorry :((((((((( *hugs* go dispute it hun get your $ back!

      • Su

lol it is because my hostel shower room is just like “all in one” type it is small but well..I just find ways to squeeze all those stuff in…there is a place to put some items so I just squeeze them but some are on the floor…but ya I like to put everything in arms reach if not I will never use them even at home my shower room is full of bottles lol

  • Thimbler

Hey Muse! Currently sitting on my shower shelf…

Lush Angels on Bare Skin cleanser
    Lush Dark Angels cleanser
    Mac Volcanic Ash Exfoliator
    Mac Volcanic Ash Mask
Sephora Cleansing Brush (we don’t get Clarisonics here, dying to get one!!)

I use Angels on Bare Skin cleanser as my daily cleanser, and I use Dark Angels or Mac’s Volcanic Ash Exfoliator x2 a week…

And I also love Ocean Salt on my face! Will switch back to it once I run out from Mac Volcanic Ash…

    • the Muse

      hey thimbler

love OS on my face as well. I sadly stopped using it as it appears it was drying me out some in the Winter months but summer comes and it’s back in my shower 😀

All great picks btw! Love AOBS myself but normally use outside of the shower…where are you from?

      • Thimbler

I use all of this in the shower because I am waaaayy to lazy as to deep cleanse my face outside of it, lol!!

I am from Spain, Europe 😉 Which is not Mexico, a lot of people in North America get both countries confused because they usually refer to Mexican people as Spanish and believe we are some kind of third world country over in South America (I’ve even been taught to open and close the water tap and to switch the lights on and off when I’ve been over at the US, LOL)… maybe you knew this already, but I like clearing it up b/c it kinda bothers me, hope you won’t get offended 😀

        • the Muse

lol thimbler I quite know where spain is and find it crazy people think you’re Mexican WHAT?! LOL My father is Portuguese and I spent alot of Summers in Europe, Spain happened to be one place we visited often as we are pretty much neighbors! offended? over what?

          • Thimbler

Yeah, I know!! Some people get offended when you explain them stuff with all your good intention which they already knew, they get all that “DUH, I KNEW”, so, just in case you would… lol.

Your father is Portuguese, really? Wow that is SOOOOOO cool!! I love Portugal, and Portuguese language is so sexy… It makes me so sad it’s such an unknown country!! Wanna visit soon, my BFF is going to Oporto in April and I am so jealous of her…

And trust me, most of the people I’ve met in the US (been there several times with this host family programs) are like: “Spain? Well that’s like in Mexico right?” it’s either that or “Spain? Oh!! Tapas, siesta, flamenco, bullfighting!” (And still they think it’s over Mexico, lol) Totally annoying. The best part comes when they ask you “Are there cars in your contry?” “Do you have running water in your country?”… I mean COME ON!!!! It’s so sad and frustrating…

Ok, Thimbler, it’s time now to shut your trap right now. Off to bed!!

          • the Muse

LOL thimbler I know what you mean but I promise I know where spain is LOL! I used to take a dutch guy and was pretty funny that no one knew where he was from….”You mean finland? You mean Austria?” NO dutch as in Holland as in the Netherlands..people have no idea that Holland the Netherlands are the same…omg the insanity! it made for some interesting conversation when we got together with friends!

Ya he is, born and raised 😀 Portugal is fab 😀 It really is somewhat unknown when Europe is viewed in the big picture 😀 Oh gosh I’m jealous myself, it’s been ages since I’ve been! 😀 Euro killed it a little bit.

Wow I’m gobsmacked people associate spain with mexico that’s just plain weird. LOLLLLLLLLL omg no way they ASK that?! LOL don’t they know you’re European? 😀

Sweet dreams hun and I promise I know where Spain is LOL!

      • Thimbler

And BTW… I love your blog. Maybe not so much the products you review (because we don’t get those here, so, what’s the point in drooling painfully over cosmetics? Lol) but I really love love love your writing. It’s really light and fun, and it never gets tiring. Huge congrats on that!! 😀

        • the Muse

aw cheers thanks thimbler *hugs* you’re a doll! I wish I had more stuff featured from your particular side of the world dear! I understand the feeling well though 😀

  • muyya

    In my shower I have
Noxzema cream wash! Oh it’s so amazing, I got it after you mention it in your blog. My skin is loving the Noxzema. Thank you muse!
After I use Noxzema and rinse it off. I like to use a foaming cleanser, my choice of foam cleanser is Aveeno Ultra Calming cleanser. It’s a simple gentle cleanser.

For a face scrub I have in my shower. I use the Missha Super Aqua Detoxifying Gel. However I wanna try out the new Missha face peel called Super Aqua Oxygen Micro Essence Peeling, most likely it will become my new face scrub depending if Missha will ever restock. I hope Missha is not shutting down their English website like The Face Shop.

    • the Muse

aw awesome muyya that’s so great 😀 Oh I don’t think so…I hadn’t heard anything! I surely hope they don’t as I was sad to see the face shop go le sigh!

  • Mrs. Diva

I use Biore Face Scrub and mix in a dry mixture I make myself because i need more exfoliation.

      • Mrs. Diva

I haven’t been able to find a product that has the major scrubbage. Plus the Biore keeps my acne at bay. When I don’t use it I get more acne issues. 🙁

  • Ashley

We have two things in common! I have the Soap&Glory + MAC behind my bathroom mirror. I hate them both (warning to girls with sensitive skin!).
I found Soap & Glory Scrub Your Nose In It really good as an exfoliator but the menthol burned my skin so badly if I kept it on too long or rubbed too much. I can’t use it even once a week or my skin will get super dry AND I’ll have patchy red cheeks for atleast a day.
But I have no idea what’s with MAC, it just burns my face completely… Same goes for the MAC Volcanic Ash Thermal Mask 🙁

    • the Muse

hey ashley I like how soap and glory feels but I don’t feel like it does much aside from making my face squeaky clean was kinda hopeful it would attack my blackheads on my nose! 🙁 Oh these are def too much for sensitive types ouch!!!!!!!! You sound super sensitive hun if you can’t even tolerate volcanic ash! Could be the grainy bits in it that’s irritating you 🙁

  • aquahartz

    hi muse,
i’m like u, love to look afta my face in the shower coz its quick & hafta shower in the morning simply coz i dont feel clean/fresh if i dont.
my mum sent me a parcel from Malaysia recently, full of my favourite skinfood products.
before the parcel, my face stuff in the shower were skinfood milk mania foaming cleanser, skinfood peppermint foaming cleanser for men (yes, i love this men’s stuff coz its cooling esp good in summer) and clinique 7day scrub (just a sample i got long time ago). it is currently autumn in Melbourne.
now the parcel’s full of skinfood stuff, i’ve added parsley & mandarin foaming cleanser + black sugar foaming scrub. I’ve kept my milk mania for now until it gets cold coz my skin tend to transform to be dry i n winter.

    cheers.

    • the Muse

same here aqua 😀 OMG must try peppermint foaming cleanser! Ho cares it’s for men LOL! I love MINT! Amen for awesome mum’s 😀 that’s great she sends stuff over yayayay!

  • Becky

I’ve always used good ole’ saint ives apricot scrub…the smell is just great to wake up to and the exfoliating every morning..it’s very refreshing,

    • the Muse

hey becks! I used to love it too 😀 it kinda dries me out so I stopped using it but lord knows I miss it 😀

  • Taryn

After seeing an awesome tutorial, I just keep an organic tomato in the shower to rub all over my face. After showering, I take what’s left over and make a sandwich. 😛

  • Julie Marie

I keep my Avar cleanser(perscription cleanser, 10% sodium sulfactamide& 5% sulfur), queen helene mint julep scrub, and a clarisonic.

I have ultra sensitive(to common skincare ingredients), super oily& and acne prone skin. A perscription acne regimine was the only way to go for me, and the only thing that has worked-ever.
Out of the shower I have Clindagel (acne-gel, 15% Clindamiacin(sp?) phosphate) and an SPF 45 sunscreen(doubles as a moisturizer for my oily skin)

  • jonnie

I’m just as nutty over skincare as I am over makeup… to some degree even a bit more so – since I don’t wear makeup to work, I’m even more conscious of how my skin looks… and I figure I need a nice canvas for all that lovely makeup too!

    In my shower:

Skin Food Black Sugar foamy cleanser
    Philosophy Microdelivery

    In my boyfriend’s shower:

    Philosophy Purity foam and Microdelivery

There’s even more in my medicine cabinet and on my sink, but since you only asked about the shower… 😉

    • the Muse

      jonnie agreed :-D!!!!!!!!!!!

Aw yea skin food hitting up a shower near you 😀 I stopped using Philosophy MD as it was drying me out but it used to be my HG for ages 😀 LOL oh no we can’t get into that we’d be here all day with my list!

  • Fabiola

Alas, I don’t have place for any products in the bathroom as my father has taken up all the space with an array of bath foams, shampoos, conditioners, deodorants, etc. It really beats me why there isn’t a male version of the word “prima donna” (hey, what about “primo donny”, lol!). Luckily, I do have a sink in my own room where I keep my Dove foaming fash wash (a little too perfumed to my taste), my Body Shop aloe vera day cream (somehow ends up feeling a bit sticky on my face), Body Shop vitamin C scrub (quite nice), Skeyndor day & eye creams (nothing much special and too pricey). I think I’ll give Olaz/Olay’s Regenerist line a try sometime soon.

    • the Muse

meterosexual fabiola 😀 LOL Be ware of the olay eye makeup remover cream that stuff is evil!

  • Catherine

I use mario badescu products – I only keep my acne facial cleanser and foaming glycolic cleanser in the shower – I also have a bottle of each of these next to the sink (morning in shower, night by the sink!). I also keep my clairsonic mia in the shower and only use it once a day.

    Love Mario Badescu!

    • the Muse

hey catherine! MB makes some fab products 😀 I keep my cleaning brush in the shower too :D!

  • Fabiola

Thanks for the heads-up! Luckily, I don’t use eye makeup, so I’m not really in need of an eye makeup remover anyhow. 🙂

  • mikibon

I actually don`t do my facial care in shower, i only wash my face there so have my giorgio armani crema nera mineral cleansing foam. Other stuff are just hair and body care items. One shampoo, one conditioner, 2 hair masks one for damaged hair one for curly hair, one shaving cream, 3 different shower gels ; one is for my extremely dry skin right now i am using la roche posey lipikar surgass ultra rich body wash, one is korres guava shower gel i use this for almost 5 years in love with the smell i can not stop buying this product, the third shower gel is kenzoki ginger flower soft water this is like an addiction to me the smell wakes me up in a way that no espresso can i use it in morning showers but it seems like they discontinued it, 1 body scrub which changes all the time because i could not find a fantastic one till now and the last item is my jeanne piaubert pain de massage amincissant it is a round shaped massage tool with a soap in it very very useful for activating blood circulation and helps slimming down .so long story short have only one skin care item in my shower and love your blog very much actually so much that sometimes i want to hug you 🙂

    • the Muse

awwwwwwwwwww freaking lovely comment mikibon! Let’s get our hug on! (((((((((((((((((((HUG))))))))))))))))) You’re lovely 😀 thanks! well looks like skincare isn’t dominating your shower stall but dude everything else is LOL!!!!!!!! cheers on that 😀

  • Bakeneko

Hey Muse 🙂 How are you honey?

My current shower skincare is –

Philosophy – The Great Mystery (can’t live without this)

    Elemis – Tri-Enzyme Facial Wash

    Elemis – Pro-Radiance Cream Cleanser

    • the Muse

I’m great dear girl how are you bakeneko!? 😀 always trying to get into elemis but haven’t as of yet 😀

  • Bakeneko

    I’m fine thanks Muse 😀

Only just managed to catch up with all your posts after assignments and then moving house!

I adore Elemis. My favourites are the tri-enzyme range and Pro-Collagen Marine Cream. The Skin Nourishing Milk Bath is probably the most gorgeous thing I have ever smelled in my life.

You so need to get into Elemis!

  • Amanda J

I currentl am trying to ge rid of all the beauty products I don’t use so all my good stuff is locked up. Right now i have the following!

Scrub your nose in it S&G (recomend)
Boots organic nourishing make up remover (recomend)
Burts peach and willow bark scrub (don’t buy!)

I have so many black heads so in the shower is the best time to open up your pores. After hopping out I apply dr. Brandt’s pore vaccum? On as a mask that brings the sebum to the surface. After I gently scrub that off
I apply biore nose strip and I feel squeaky clean ! 🙂

    • the Muse

hey amanda good picks 😀 I like scrub your nose it for my shower too! :D! thanks for sharing yay!

  • jerseygrrrl78

Right now I’m using Philosophy Purity Made Simple One-Step Facial Cleanser. It’s light, non-drying and gets all your makeup off too. Reminds me a lot of Fresh Soy Face Cleanser. I also have an old tube of St. Ives Apricot Scrub hanging around which I haven’t used since I discovered Missha’s Super Aqua Detoxifying Peeling Gel. Missha’s product is way gentler and than St. Ives’. I’m thinking the Apricot Scrub might work well on less sensitive parts of the body like elbows and heels.
