Beauty Abroad: Shills Cherry Blossom Cleansing Oil Review

Hey chicklets!

I recently mentioned that Sasa is now selling Taiwanese brand, Shills. Its one of my favorite brands and I’m very happy they are selling it now particularly because prices are close to exact retail prices, translated as crazy cheap. This is also great because now I can review my stash of Shills and have a great place to suggest you purchase it as Shills isn’t exactly the easiest brand to find for purchase on the Internet.

Jump ahead to enjoy a review of Shills Cherry Blossom Cleansing Oil.

What is it?

Shills Cherry Blossom Cleansing Oil is an olive oil base with a slight cherry, floral scent. Use on dry face full of makeup by simply massaging on, wetting a little to emulsify, and rinsing off. Done! Clean face.

The Good…

Less than $9 for a large bottle makes it a nicely priced cleansing oil as far as I’m concerned but not the best cleansing oil in the world. I’m on my 3rd bottle of this because its dirt cheap and I love the scent however its not great for hardcore makeup removal. The formula runs thinner than most formulas and it doesn’t emulsify when water is applied so its kinda not really doing the greatest job in the world as a cleansing oil. I use for the days I’m wearing really light makeup but I avoid using it for days I’m wearing heavier makeup. The scent has a fresh cherry-ish, floral thing going on that’s very pleasant to my nose. Its actually one of my personal favorite cleansing oils for light makeup wear days since it leaves my skin soft and removes what little color I do have on my face. The packaging is super cute and features cherry blossoms on a background of the pink oil.

The Bad….

Epic fail for removing waterproof mascara and for getting your full face of makeup completely off. Doesn’t emulsify, just rinses clean away. Thinner formula makes you feel like its not really doing the job, which it probably isn’t if you’re wearing a ton of makeup.

Who might like it?

  • Shallow package junkies like me who adore cute packaging!
  • Anyone who wears light makeup and needs a quick clean up at the end of the day.
  • Anyone who wants to avoid mineral oil in their cleansing oil.

Who might not like it?

  • Anyone who wants cleansing oil to get off stubborn makeup such as waterproof mascara!
  • Anyone sensitive to fragrance.

Final Thoughts…..

I admit both the price, the cute design, and pretty scent really get me worked into a foam over this. Its not the best cleansing oil you’ll ever try but it does have a heck of a nice design, a pretty scent, plus its cheap as day old chips. I generally like using it for days I have little to no makeup on as it quickly removes lighter makeup and makes my face feel hydrated and soft.

I think its worth a little haul for those reasons alone however I realize not everyone shares my mentality about packaging and the likes.

Cute but doesn’t do a whole lot for heavier makeup users.

Available from Sasa.

in my opinion…oil cleanser which doesn’t take off waterproof mascara doesn’t deserver to be called “oil cleanser” lol for me it is THE very reason to be oil cleanser ( am i the only one feel this way? )
    love the bottle though

Now I wish I didn’t order this on Sunday. I need a powerful cleansing oil for my SPF. I suppose it will be fine with double cleansing. Oh well, I can refill the bottle with Kose. At least it’s cheap.

    • the Muse

comrade tell me whatcha think when it arrives. it should do ok for your SPF but not waterproof eye makeup hun!

  • regina

oooh i am definitely trying this one cause i wear very little makeup anyway. its so cute!!

  • ming

hey… i tried this before too… unfortunately it didn’t work for me. i’m one who always wears mascara, and when i first started using it i did not know that it doesn’t work on heavy makeup or mascara. i used it on my eyes and it stings my eyes quite badly that i kept tearing for a while. ahaha….if anyone’s looking for good eye make up remover, i’d suggest fasio point make up remover. it has a ph of 5.5 which is supposedly the same ph as your tears ( i dunno how true is that), it works amazingly well for me. it doesn’t sting your eyes even if it seeps in, i’m on my 5th bottle now. hahah… oops… digress a little…

    • the Muse

aw sorry to hear ming. thankfully no stinging here just blurry vision for a sec! I haven’t tried fasio tbh as I never really have great success with their eye makeup but sounds good 😀

  • PinkyKathy

wow!! this is perfect for me. Cute packaging, inexpensive and I don’t wear full makeup everyday. Will get one now haha coz I nearly finish my FANCL.

  • Elaina

Shu Uemura cleansing oil is the BEST!! It’s a little pricey, but the old adage about getting what you pay for couldn’t be more true than in this case. It takes off EVERYTHING and smells so good too! I’ve used the purple one, green one and yellow one. I think they all work pretty much the same, but I like the green one (A/O Oil) the best. Definitely worth the investment! I usually get them through Neiman Marcus, but if Sephora has it available — which they haven’t lately — I’ll order it through them b/c it qualifies for free shipping, and free samlpes!! 🙂

hi Elaina yup, Shu makes a great one 🙂 I like the whitening oil very much 🙂

Thanks for the review, spotted it some time ago but had my doubts as I noticed the runny texture compared to some more expensive (counter) brands, so wasn’t sure how effecive it’d be. Sure liked the packaging though. I;m a real sucker when it comes to cute packaging!

    • the Muse

me too esther 😀 that’s why I purchased, the packaging. but def avoid if you wear heavier makeup as it doesn’t do that GREAT a job 🙁

  • Rainie
