Beauty on a Budget: Rimmel SunShimmer Maxi Bronzer Review and Swatches

What is it?

A super size golden bronzer for face, cheeks, and body.

The Good….

Best news about this bronzer is the fact that the overspray isn’t just for show! The bronzer is made up of a swirl of muddy brown and a fine golden shimmer. Although the first bit of gold rubs away fairly quickly, yes a little overspray in the mix, it still has a faintly golden glimmer that lightens up the muddy brown and makes it very wearable. The bronzer doesn’t have a nasty orange or mud finish but simply enhances your own natural skin tone with a kiss of golden glow. Its quite pigmented and blends easily with the use of a smaller kabuki. I use a small dash on my cheeks on top of a peachy cheek stain to enhance the color and create a sunkissed look. I have it in the shade Sun Queen which I believe is the darkest shade but still manages to remain subtle and simply illuminates the face without over doing it or making me look like a Oompa-Loompa (my biggest fear when it comes to bronzers).

The Bad….

Not alot of bad about it to be honest. Although I’m not keen on the packaging, not really pretty.

Who might like it?

  • Anyone looking for a cheaper bronzer option because they are lemming the Lancome Bamboo Bronzer.
  • Anyone who wants a golden glow for the Summer.

Who might not like it?

  • Very fair skin ladies may find this applies a tad muddy.
  • Anyone that simply hates bronzers prob won’t find any interest in this.

Final Thoughts…..

I never really had much interest in bronzers until I tried Urban Decay Baked Bronzer. Soon after I developed a great love affair with finding great shades of shimmering bronzers. Rimmel Sunshimmer Maxi Bronzer fits the bill perfectly. It has just enough shimmer to create a golden glow without creating a disco ball effect on your face plus the inexpensive price tag makes it appealing for those on a beauty budget.

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. I kinda like how it looks like sand dunes in the packaging (well, really dark sand dunes with gold etching).

You’re brilliant Muse! I’ve been wanting the Lancome bronzer sooooo bad, but it just wasn’t in the budget!

I like Chanel cream bronzer (universal? I am sure I spelt wrongly) and Dior bronzer…but I have not found THE bronzer for me yet..this one intrigue me…I will check this out since it is cheap anyway
I am also totally obsessed with bronzer right now lol
it seems like I go through a phrase of obsession for different items..last time was blush..then orange eyeshadow then gold then foundation
    now is bronzer

I won the lightest shade of this in an Allure contest awhile back and I really love it! I’m quite pale, but the lightest shade looks really natural on me, and yet does give me a bronzey glow. <3

ooh thank you muse!! I am going to check out my local drugstore for this!!!!!! I am very pale and fair but I came to love bronzers for contouring my face to make it look healthier and slimmer!!! Will this bronzer work great for me as a contouring shade?? The hype of NYC bronzing powder led me to get it…but I am so disappointed by the super orangeness.

    • the Muse

my pleasure Joan 🙂 I wouldn’t use to contour though as it has a fair bit of shimmer hun!
