Givenchy Summer Makeup Collection 2010 Review and Swatches

I can’t believe the Givenchy Summer Makeup Collection 2010 is sitting on my desk today. Its all so fast now. Spring is just now peeking up and I’m on to Summer 2010?

It can’t be.

But tis true, Summer arrives early in the land of beauty blogs and Givenchy Summer Makeup Collection 2010 arrives soonish at Sephora (starting May) so I guess its time to tell you all about it so you can start making your wishy lists!

Jump!

What is it?

A Summer-y makeup collection inspired by Nicolas Degennes’ (Givenchy’s artistic director) travel diary from a photo shoot at the ends of the earth, that’s where the restaurant at the end of the universe resides dontcha know. The collection is inspired by the colors and scents of a tropical island and honestly what better way to celebrate Summer?

The Good….

I haven’t tested or purchased Givenchy since Fall and they have since revamped their packaging. The new packaging is slimmer, slicker, and has a pull out drawer to stash brushes in (this be the case with the bronzers and blushes but not the eyeshadows). I like the new packaging alot! The slim design is very appealing, portable, and elegant.

Givenchy Fleur de Frangipanier/Givenchy Unique Compact Powder (LE $45) is available in two shades and sports a gorgeous hibiscus imprint on the powder. For the most part its a very subtle, sheer bronzer which is ideal for those a little scared of bronzer or anyone who wants a touch of color but nothing dramatic. I tried it in the shade Island Tan which is the browner of the two shades. The color is a tad uneventful on its own so I do suggest a small dash of cheek stain under it or a little peach blush on top of it to add a little more to the color. Its not terribly pigmented but can do wonders when worn with a coral or warmer shade of stain under it. The compact features a slim slide out drawer which houses a soft flat brush for application, quite stealthy and slick.

Givenchy Le Prisme Mono/Givenchy Unique Eyeshadow (LE $29) also is available in two shades with a marbleized effect allowing for three separate shades of color in one single pan design. I tried the color Island Lagoon which features a dark navy blue, a light teal, and a sky blue veining. If you’re patience you can use the shades to create a detailed eye look by contrasting with the darker to lighter shades. I’m personally not that patient so I swipe a sponge across it all and come out with a nice color of aqua blue. As with most Givenchy shadows its not terribly pigmented but it manages to build up easy when a sponge tip applicator is used for application.

And finally Givenchy Phenomen’ Eyes Waterproof (LE $29) is available in a limited edition shade of Water Turquoise. See my detailed review of Phenomen’ Eyes Mascara by visiting this link.

The Bad…..

Depending on how you look at it you may find that Givenchy isn’t as pigmented as you like your product to be. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Givenchy purposely keeps colors softer and easier to wear with alot less bolder pigments as it caters to a posher customer and its not seeking to be like MAC.

Who might like it?

  • Givenchy followers and fans!
  • Anyone who likes luxurious makeup.
  • Those seeking a bronzer or eye palette with a soft focus finish.

Who might not like it?

  • Anyone who wants super pigmented product!
  • Anyone who unwilling to dish our $29 or more for an eyeshadow.

Final Thoughts….

A few nice pieces are featured in this release but its not my favorite Givenchy Collection by any means but you may find a gem or two in this release particularly the shadows.

The Givenchy Summer Makeup Collection 2010 will be for sale starting May 1st at Sephora.

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. Oh, I NEED that Givenchy Fleur de Frangipanier!! I hope they’ll get this collection here soon! =) I just wished they did something about the prices, in Europe Givenchy is even more expensive than in the USA >.<

  • Shahada

I was sooo hoping the bronzer was darker! I think it’s beautiful to look at, though. Oh, and it’s not a hibiscus flower imprint, it’s a Frangipani (hence the name of the compact, Fleur de Frangipanier [which means Franigpani flower in french])

Love your blog. Keep up the greatness!

Does the mascara show up teal on the lashes? I hope it’s pigmented.

Hi everybody, firs time i am posting here but im always reading.
I’ve got the 3 shades of glosses (all lovely), the rouge interdit island hibiscus (looked more dark pink on my lips than red or coral) and the le prisme blush n23 (need help with that MUSE HELP PLZ).
Im soooooo aiming for that mascara now, but’s so pricy, not sure. I usually go for the black mascaras for that price.
Muse can’t you post a picture you wearing the mascara 🙂
