Musings of the Day: Knock, Knock It’s Your Makeup Delivery Girl (Or Guy)

My mum adores reminiscing about days of old when the Avon lady came a knockin’! Yup, that’s right the Avon lady used to come to your door, sit down with you, try makeup on, and let you purchase it right from her.

Cool right?

Granted, Avon and Mary Kat still kinda embrace this technique but it’s not as elaborate as it once was.

It got me thinking to myself, How would I feel about makeup delivers, to my front door…?

Imagine your favorite SA from Bobbi Brown, Guerlain, or MAC came to your door every other week or once a month to introduce you to all the latest and greatest from the line plus tried it on you and allowed you to make your purchases right on the spot.

Wanna Muse it?

Jump!

I thought long and hard about this one and absolutely adore the idea. Considering I’m a pretty busy person and my schedule is packed sometimes it’s difficult to get to my fav counters so I end up purchasing online. Sometimes my purchases online stink because colors are off, product isn’t quite what I thought it was, etc….

I rather love the idea of my fav MA just showing up at my door to give me the good word on new products and collection and allowing me to purchase them from her directly.

Now…

This isn’t without it’s fault of course.

Ideally it would have to be an MA I know and trusted as if it was any old random MA chances are it would be like inviting an over zealous car sales man into your house. Someone who would push a ton of product you didn’t want or need and aggressively try to sell you everything and anything. That would take the idea of “makeup delivers” to a whole other not so pleasant level.

But if it was an MA that I loved to work with already who wasn’t pushy and who understood that no meant no, hells I’d be all over makeup delivers like white on rice.

Mind you I also decided this would work great for newer collections but sometimes heading to the counter or store can be way fun too!

How about you?

Do you like a counter/store experience?

Or would you be up for at home makeup purchases?

Muse it!

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. Totally makes me wanna watch Edward Scissorhands again 🙂
I remember getting the Avon mags. I even considered selling it when I was in my teenager years…one of the Avon ladies suggested it =D
I don’t like dealing with the MAs. I feel pressured, which I’m sure is their purpose in life…

lol marina omg I forgot about that 😀 it depends, some of my ma’s are wonderful but newer ones can be really pushy 🙁

    • Tinkerchelle

LOL! That’s totally what I thought of too, Marina! Whenever I hear anything about ‘Avon Ladies’, I get images of a slightly confused Johnny Depp with some yogurty, lilac colored cream slathered all over his face! 😀
If they delivered MAC, on the other hand….. My wallet shudders to think about it!

      • the Muse

lol chelle if they delivered mac I picture myself buying a collection a week!

  • myolie

i would like somebody to come to my house, but i want it to be more like a make up party . where in the MA would come in and give tips and show the collections while i’m eating cake and pasta(like tupperware ,jewelry and handbag parties) ^ ^

  • Kristina

I personally like going to the mall. (Unless I have all my children with me of course, then it’s hell.) I would feel to0 obligated to buy if someone took the time to come to my house.

    • the Muse

true Kristina 😀 I’d feel the same way! but it’s tempting to just have someone stop by with the latest and greatest 😀

  • Margaret

I think it would be terrific, but the salesperson would have to be receiving absolutely NO commission whatsoever! That way, there would be no pressure for them to sell you anything. They could just be paid per hour. And I’d want them to bring all the latest fragrances, too!

And hopefully they’d have everything in stock, so you wouldn’t have to WAIT for your goodies to arrive, the way you did with Avon.

    • the Muse

lol margaret miss bossy pants 😀 haha!

How about they’d drive a big old truck and all the stuff would be in there 😀 no waiting on anything!

Being a mom and stuck at home with kids..
. It sounds like a dream come true

there is the danger of someone claiming to be from MAC/BB/any make up brand and selling fake goods to you. so i’m a little scared of that. the person may not be able to fool me or you but it may get to fool one or two. get what i mean?

  • Lisamarie

As long as we’re living in cosmetic dream world, I want the Chanel rep to show up at my door with a big box of the latest and greatest from Chanel and insist that I have it all for free – that my Chanel love and loyalty are payment enough for them!

    Best, Lisamarie

    • the Muse

LOL Lisa! ummm ok! total trip through fantasy land LOL!!!!!!!!!! can you get me the hook up too?! 😀

  • JoElla

OMG do you have any idea how much trouble I would be in, if SA’s traveled to my door?!

Who needs food I want makeup! LOL

  • Kate

My grandma was an Avon lady so I was rolling in the avon products. Its a toss up about whether or not I want a MA to come to my home. Mainly I’m a super easy sell so anyone coming to the house would guarantee at least $50 in sales. When I go to a counter I’m usually looking for something specific and if its not there I leave.

Plus, when the town I lived had a makeup counter, the two women staffing it were so inept, I wouldn’t feel safe bringing them into my house. Once when I was looking for a decent shade of foundation, the MA tried to convince me to buy a brown shade of foundation so I would look tan. (I’m paler than pale.)

  • Robyn

would love it since theres no mac near me but would also kinda hate it cause you can go to the counter when you want but would be dependant on when she/he felt like showing up

the party ideas like someone else suggested i like i wish more brands did it i was at a body shop one the other week and it was really fun and didnt feel pressured to buy anything although my mum did cause she knew the host

  • lisa

no way! where is the magic in that! avon is great but too accessible, don’t want my beloved mac, givenchy, ysl, dior coming to my door! no way, silly idea

  • Comrade_Garlic

I work in retail, on my days off the last thing I want to do is got the mall. I live in a strip center. I’m over shopping. So, yes I would love this. I now only go to the counters every 2-3 months. I look , take some pictures and make notes. I go home and and if I still want an item I buy online. It saves me money. A good 98% of the time I decide not to buy. It also keeps the dupes to a minimum.

    • the Muse

hey comrade wish I could just say no 😀 I do find if I wait a little that the lemming eases and I end up not buying 😀

  • cat

hell yea im all for it!!!!where can I sign up?! lol. Its a brilliant Idea. only in a perfect world could my fav ma come to my house w/ all my makeup lemmings!oh, to dream.

  • Melissa Hernandez

This made me LOL! I am an Avon Lady, as was my mother before me.
I believe in the old school way going door-to-door. I got most of my loyal customers that way. I suck as a sales person, anyone will tell you… I wouldn’t want a salesperson being pushy towards me, so I don’t do it to my customers either. I don’t carry a lot of stock, except for tubes of Silicone Glove and Advanced Techniques 2-in1 Shampoo/Conditioner. I do also keep 1 of every fragrance, but I use them as demos. I find the sample packs come off very “alchoholy” and don’t do the actual fragrances justice.
Anyway – just a shout out to the Avon Lady’s still rocking the door-to door!
    Holler!! =)
