Pop Beauty Eye Magnet Primer Review and Swatches

I’m a die hard Urban Decay Primer Potion fan so every time I try a new primer I’m pretty damn critical of it and I’m left nitpicking it apart and comparing it to my beloved UDPP.

I recently purchased Pop Beauty Eye Magnet Primer on a whim even though I KNEW I’d never give up on my Primer Potion but hey variety is the spice of life right? Might as well try something new once and a while.

Was it good?

Find out after the jump!

What is it?

Pop Beauty Eye Magnet Primer promises a little too much in my opinion. It’s simply an eye primer but Pop proceeds to mark it up as a concealer, primer, color intensifier, fine line diffuser, etc…Let’s not call it a dog when its a cat you know what I mean? It’s just simply a little too much so I’ll stick to simply dubbing it as an eyeshadow primer.

The Good….

It has a nice mattifying formula so oily lid users can rejoice at how well it will sooth oily lids and make them nice and matte for shadows. It has a click pen applicator so it easily applies by dabbing on or brushing on with the brush applicator. The packaging should appeal for those who can’t stand Urban Decay’s packaging. It does indeed allow shadows to last quite longer however not as long as my Primer Potion as I seen some creasing towards the 7th hour of use where as my shadow is normally bulletproof for the day until I decide to take it off and not before.

The Bad…..

I absolutely hate the peach color. The color makes me look tired and doesn’t do a fine job of concealing as it primes so I’d much rather a transparent formula as I use Benefit Lemon Aid prior to primer anyway to brighten my eyes up. This color simply drowns me out and makes my eyes look hooded and exhausted. It dries down super fast so you do have to quickly start dabbing because as soon as it makes contact with your skin it dries down. And without a quick hand you’ll get a powdery, uneven, and crease-y finish within seconds of application. It’s $18 and a mere 0.08 oz in size. Urban Decay Primer Potion is the same price and 0.34 oz in size!

Who might like it?

  • Anyone who believes that peach does wonders for darkness around their eyes.
  • Anyone who likes a concealer that dries down to a super matte finish.
  • Anyone who likes click pen applicators and isn’t a fond fan of the Urban Decay packaging.

Who might not like it?

  • Anyone who doesn’t like paying alot more for alot less!
  • Anyone who thinks peach concealer or primer makes them look tired.
  • Anyone who has drier skin and doesn’t like a matte formula.
  • Anyone who is already a fond fan and dedicated user of Urban Decay Primer Potion.
  • Anyone who’s seriously slow moving during application (this bad boy dries down SUPER fast so you have to be quick!).

Final Thoughts….

The primer failed to impress me and I had very little to say that was good about it. I honestly can’t see myself ever replacing my own primer for this one and felt like the formula was lacking a fair bit plus the final cost is absurd compared to the amount of product I get with Urban Decay which is the same price.

Not one of Pop’s better products.

No likey.

Available now from Pop Beauty.

Just curious, have you tried the Etude House Proof 10 eyeshadow primer? I got one of these to try and I find that this keeps my eyeshadows on longer than UDPP – and I have really oily eyelids. I think it might be HG item for me! I’ve been taking out eyeshadows that creased on me to see how they do with the prrof 10 primer – good results so far!

    • the Muse

I have indeed Li and it’s quite good although gotta say I still love my UDPP 😀

  • Kristina

I didn’t like Pop’s either and pretty much for the same reasons. Right now I’m trying out Smashbox’s Photo Finish Lid Primer and I’m still on the fence about it.

    • the Muse

hey kristina seems like no one does a good job as UDPP for me 😀

Eye primers… something that is not in my makeup kit.
Wanna ask you something though, I really really feel like putting on eye primer/lotion prior to eyeshadow but some sales girl actually told me that if I don’t have oily lids I wouldn’t need any eye base. Whats your say Muse…?

Abt the eco brush thing.. I can’t buy things online yet cuz I’m still a teeneager who now lives on her pocket money from parents amd is embarrased to ask for parents credit card just to buy such things… Oopsi… 😛

    • the Muse

angie oily or not you need a base imho. I don’t have oily leads and my shadow wears away and creases as the day progresses if I don’t have primer in place. Ecotools is in store as well, I believe walmart sells the brand as well as a few other places, hope this helps hun 🙂

      • Angie Twe

        I forgot to say… I’m from M’sia… =.=
If there’s a walmart here I’ll run over and check it over there by now.
        (not gonna happen LOLs!)

Thanks for your reply, so fast and sweet!
You’d helped me again. thank you…!

        • the Muse

you gotta be kiddin’ me angie? Who are these people? They are lying LOL! this is def not as good as UDPP imhO! yup, will do. just packed schedule so will get to it shortly 😀 shadow lasts alot longer if you have primer on 😀

          • Angie Twe

Not kidding! I really read that line where the writer says I find this prdt is better than UDPP over and over again!
Apparently, they say its better bcuz it has less cakeup effect on their eyes. But she did said it has abt the same lasting effect.
I read somewhere from someone comments also that said the same thing. Maybe true maybe not.
            Sorry if i freak U out! 😛 hahaha~

          • the Muse

OMG no angie. Can’t agree with that LOL! 😀 I love my UDPP 😀
