Rimmel Spring Collection 2010: Rimmel The Max Volume Flash Mascara Review

I gotta confess, I really hate simple mascara brushes. I always feel like a large, bushy standard brush simply doesn’t get the job done. I’ve almost always have really crummy results with mascara that has such a brush. When the US mascara market started evolving and embracing really cool brush applicators I was all over it because for me I get the best results with all those bells and whistles rather than a standard old applicator.

I’m telling you all this because when I seen Rimmel The Max Volume Flash Mascara I was positive it would be absolute rubbish.

Was it?

Jump!

What is it?

Rimmel The Max Volume Flash is enriched with collagen to fatten lashes up and keratin to strengthen lashes. It promises a formula to beef lashes up to 14x.

The Good….

Dude, its awesome. You needs it. It comes with a big old bushy applicator brush which I was skeptical about. Rimmel deems it their biggest brush yet but no worries its not like Covergirl’s massive club-like applicator. I’m going to go with blaming both the formula and the brush for the incredible volume and length I get from this. The brush really catches lashes and coats them fully with a rich black formula that gives lashes a fuller look. I’d say 14x is about right as it made my lashes look incredibly fat and juicy plus added a nice bit of length to ’em as well!

The Bad….

Not a fan of the pink and gold packaging which looks a tad cheesy to my eyes.

Who might like it?

  • Anyone who wants fatter, plumper lashes!
  • Anyone who desires length as well as volume!
  • Chicklets who are shopping for a budget mascara (It’ll set you back $5.99 to $6.99)

Who might not like it?

  • Anyone who wants a waterproof formula!

Final Thoughts….

I read some kinda iffy reviews on this but I personally loved it and seen great results. For the price you can’t really lose too much by giving it a try out that much is for sure. It promises length and volume and delivered plus it wore quite long on my lashes sans smudging or flakes which is fab as it wasn’t waterproof. It washes clean away with a little cleanser so you aren’t left scrubbing at your lashes trying to remove your mascara. Not alot I didn’t like about it.

Not bad at all and worthy of a haul and a Muse Approval.

Loves it!

Anyone try?

IMO the color combo made it look cheap, and that shade of pink… well it reminded me of something similarly shaped that vibrates :/

    • the Muse

eletronicfly LOL ew that was a bad mental image. I didn’t like the packaging at all either. But the actually mascara was a score! 😀

  • thecandiedmango

Maybe this makes me a weirdo, but I actually like the colors. I dig bright/cheesy packaging, and this is right up my alley.
I like the mascara, too. I’d say my experience matches this article pretty well.

    • the Muse

you’re not weird at all candied 🙂 it was a great mascara for sure! 😀

I got this on super sale at Rite Aid for like $2.50 or something and it’s pretty good! Every once in a while, I don’t wait long enough between coats and I get some clumping issues, but if I’m patient it’s great. I have lashes much like yours and after carefully layering 3 coats of mascara over Clinique’s lash primer, someone asked if I had falsies on! I was shocked lol… either that or they don’t know much about falsies.

    • the Muse

hey wendy 😀 sounds like a success story to me and $2.50? DEAL!

Dude- I LOVE this mascara. I just bought it a week ago. It’s great- so much better than many other mascaras I’ve tried, even expensive ones. Just goes to show that everyone is different, and although my friends all worship Dior- which doesn’t work for me at all- I’m lucky a cheap mascara is best for me personally. =) And actually, I loved the color of the tube.

I’m rekindling my love affair with Rimmel! I’m going to have to go back CVS to pick this one up while it’s BOGO. So far the Glam Eyes Flirt has worked well for me, and East End Snob is my perfect lip liner. I’m glad drugstores in the US are getting better quality stuff.

I couldn’t agree more comrade, DS has been too GOOD to be true lately!

  • jackieg02

I really, really, REALLY, liked this mascara. I need more but all the shelves have been bare!

  • Angela

I was skeptical and wary of clumpy city when I heard 14x but it looks quite nice on you Muse!

    • the Muse

cheers thanks angela. for the price you can’t really break the bank by trying out 😀

  • gio

I usually love everything pink but the packaging looks cheap and cheesy to me too. But the mascara looks amazing on you!

    • the Muse

yea agreed gio not thrilled with the packaging but the actual mascara=AWESOME 🙂

  • Tracy Christian

I love this mascara. I have little stubby no existent lashes that nothing helped. I’d resolved myself to wearing eyelash extensions forever. That is until I discovered this Rimmel mascara. On my lashes it does everything it’s supposed to. My lashes never look spikey using it either.

    • the Muse

aw great news tracy so glad you’re loving it 😀 I really liked it too!!!!!

  • Tiffanie L

I’m not a huge fan of Rimmel but I will def check this one out. Walgreens has 50% off sales pretty often. Also, I totally love the pink ..hehe

  • Robyn

i want to try this but i point blank refuse to pay 5.99 for it when its only $5.99 – $6.99 in dollars unfair

  • Caitríona

Just wondering did you curl your lashes before applying it? They’re fabulously lifted and I NEED a mascara that can do that for me! =)

    • the Muse

hi caitriona 😀 no hun always no with mascara reviews as defeats the purpose of the review 😀

  • AC

I love this mascara as well. It definitely lengthens and if you wiggle your brush applicator as you are brushing it through, but again I really like the Scandal’eyes mascara which I do think everyone should give a try. In fact I have been using the Rimmel mascara’s since 2010 and I really have enjoyed all of them.

The Sexy Curves Mascara wasn’t all that, although if the applicator is used properly it will leave you with somewhat/what appears to be curvy lashes.

  • Sun

I love this mascara, too. Just picked it up today, based on a post on Paula’s Choice Facebook about mascaras that give a dramatic effect that PC recommends. I was very pleasantly surprised at how long, lush, separated (read: non-clumpy), and feathery my lashes looked! I haven’t had a chance to wear it all day to see how it wears, i.e., any smudging or smearing, but I gotta say that this mascara sure beats the pants off a lot of high-end mascaras!
