I honestly can’t wear what the makeup world calls “thee perfect shade” of red lipstick. No way, no how. Can’t be done unless you want me to look like one of those killer clowns from that really bad yet good 80′s flick, Attack of the Killer Clowns. God, that must be where my fear of clowns comes from, that movie was simply terrifying. Does anyone remember it? They’d kill people and proceed to mummify them in cotton candy…..wow, I heart the 80′s!

Woah! That’s a red hard to wear.. while alot of girls out there are in the quest for the perfect red… some of us out there simply isn’t suitable for that perfect shade of red… those red on my lips would look like i am trying too hard.. hm…

I like them warmer. Brick reds, maroons, etc…but can’t do bright true reds like this eep way clown-y!

I’m friends with a guy that helped design the creature effects for that Killer clown movie. ha! They showed it for fun at our local theater last summer one night, and I’d forgotten how awful it was.
I also cannot wear true red without it looking completely garish, even though I never shy away from bold makeup. What I do to make it look better (at least in my opinion!) is use a dark berry colored lipliner, and blend the red into it, so only the center part of my lips is true red. I still get the bombshell red pout, without the clown-ness.

My go to red is Maybelline 24hr lipcolor in Keep the Flame. I only wear it when I’m wearing red though.. and with a barely there neutral eye and bronzer vs. blush. Got to balance it out. My biggest gripe about red is the mess, it winds up everywhere and looks awful as it wears, so high maintenance. The one I wear stays right where I put it though so no worries.
